Deadline: August 1, 2012 (RECEIVE)

Call for Artists
Contemporary Blackwork
The Embroiderers' Guild of America
EGA National Headquarters
Louisville, Kentucky
February 1 - June 29, 2013

The Embroiderers' Guild of America is seeking work for an exhibition of contemporary blackwork embroidery that will be on display at EGA National Headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky from February 1 - June 29, 2013.

All members of the EGA, the Embroiderers Association of Canada, the Embroiderers' Guild UK, the Association of New Zealand Embroiderers Guilds, the Australia Embroiderers Guilds, and the American Needlepoint Guild are invited to enter.

Contemporary blackwork--work of the present time with a freer style than classic blackwork consisting of colored, black, and gray patterns as fillings and/or design units. Blackwork is the most elegant, graphic, and entrancing of the counted works. This exhibit shows that blackwork can be taken from a stitched black outline filled with prim patterns to modern, fine art of many colors and directions.

Guest curators Shirley Kay Wolfersperger, Carole Rinard, and Ann Erdmann are looking for works with artistic merit that have been completed since 2008. Contemporary blackwork should be the main feature of the pieces. Works should be no longer than sixteen inches (41 cm) on any side, including a frame if applicable. Three dimensional works will also be accepted (16” max. in any direction.)

CD Entries will be accepted only.

There is a $30 non-refundable fee for up to three entries. Artists whose works are accepted will be responsible for shipping charges to and from EGA. Each entrant will receive a CD of all the accepted pieces.

All accepted artists will be asked to provide a few sentences about their work.
