Our Independent Student Residencies are open to third and fourth year full-time art and design students exploring textiles in their work and graduating at the end of the 2023/2024 school year.

We offer residency sessions throughout the year:

We rely on our members' and residents' varied backgrounds and perspectives to spark innovation and creativity. We invite students from diverse communities to apply and gain access to our beautiful, 1200 square foot equipped studio located at 401 Richmond St. West in Toronto, Canada.

Residency Overview

Students will be assigned a mentor but must be able to work independently in the studio.

Students are allocated 8 - 12 hours per week to work in the studio at a subsidized rate of $50 per week.

Successful applicants will provide their own materials, including screens, fabrics, pigments, dyes and auxiliaries.

Most studio-owned equipment is available for use by student residents who have undergone studio orientation. Residents will supply their own specialized equipment. Please note not all equipment and textile processes can be accommodated in the studio.

Student residency placements are open to art and design students exploring textiles in their work. Students who successfully complete a residency may be eligible to renew another residency for the following academic term.

The Fiber Art juried exhibition is held every two years at Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA). Fiber Art Now magazine is joining SCA in presenting the 7th biannual exhibit. We are inviting artists from all over the world to enter this outstanding celebration of fiber arts.


EXHIBIT THEME
International Fiber Arts Vll is a juried exhibition presenting a distinct approach to innovative and traditional fiber techniques, and a contemporary concept for the use of traditional and unusual materials. The chosen work invites the viewer to experience the many facets of fiber art. Accepting both two or three-dimensional pieces including wearable and installation art.


REQUIREMENTS (truncated)
• Entry submissions are online only, by jpeg.
• All work must be original and not previously shown at SCA.
• Maximum of 3 entries per artist plus up to two details of each entry.
• Work can be wall-hung, free-standing, pedestal, mounted or installation.

ABOUT
Beers Contemporary is proud to present an open call for our 5th annual open exhibition, Contemporary Visions V. The annual open call seeks to identify current trends in contemporary art through the discovery of artists working in all artistic disciplines. This is a remarkable opportunity for artists at any stage to exhibit in a vetted, curated group exhibition in the heart of London's vibrant art community. One or more artists will be selected for a solo-exhibition and other notable opportunities.

ELIGIBILITY
Artists worldwide, at any career-stage may submit.


ARTWORK
All media is accepted, including: two-dimensional, three-dimensional, installation, video, performance, new-media and any other traditional and non-traditional media. Submit up to 4 images. There is no maximum-pixel height/width to images. There are no restrictions to size or otherwise for to work submitted for exhibition. Work should be available for exhibition and sale during the exhibition dates.

The River Road Show sponsored by the Louisiana Art and Artists’ Guild, is currently celebrating its 45th year. It is an annual national juried exhibition. The primary purpose of this exhibition is to showcase artists’ work from across the country.

Eligibility
This competition is open to all United States artists 18 years or older. Submitted artwork must be original and created within the last two years. Photography, digitally created or enhanced works, giclées, reproductions and nudity are not acceptable. Artwork previously exhibited in the River Road Show is not eligible.

Entry Fee (non-refundable)
A non-refundable entry fee of $40 will be charged for up to three entries and $5 for each additional entry up to 10. LAAG members with dues paid are entitled to a non-refundable entry fee of $40 for the first four entries and $5 for each additional entry up to 10.

The Rental-Sales Program and the Gift Gallery of the Salem Art Association (SAA) are consignment venues at the Bush Barn Art Center for regional artists to display, rent and sell their work. Art rentals and sales support both the artists and SAA’s educational programs. For these venues, saleability is a top priority, creative approaches are always valued, and superior craftsmanship is a necessity. Our clientele shops in the Gift Gallery year-round for fine art, fine craft, functional crafts and handmade gift items by Pacific Northwest artists. Many art sales are also made through our Rent-to-Buy program, which allows qualified customers the opportunity to rent work of art for three months, after which they may apply the rental fee to the purchase price with the artist receiving a commission on both. Additionally, we have a select number of corporate rental accounts.


EXHIBITION PERIODS
The annual cycle of our Rental-Sales Program and Gift Gallery is divided into two exhibition seasons: Spring-Summer and Fall-Winter with a separate application process for each season. Artists who submit applications by March 1 will be considered for the Spring-Summer exhibition period and those who submit applications by September 1 will be considered for the Fall-Winter exhibition period. You must apply for each exhibition period, even if your artwork has been juried into the gallery previously.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST
To have your artwork considered for the upcoming exhibition season, please mail or hand deliver four digital images of recent work (created within the last year), saved to CD and enclosed with the following:
• Completed application form (see page 3)
• Up-to-date resume, CV and/or bio (include all recent awards, exhibits, grants, etc.)
• Artist statement (a detailed description explaining how, why, when and where you create your art)
• A self-addressed stamped envelope (if you want your CD returned to you)

Digital files must be submitted on a PC-platform CD. Please do not e-mail submissions. JPEG files with a resolution of 300 dpi and a file size of approximately 2-5MB are ideal. Please do not submit slide shows, flash files or website links. Label digital files with a number that corresponds with the number on the application form, your last name and the art title. Label the CD with your name, phone, email and “Gift Gallery/Sales-Rental.” Note: The quality of your images may directly influence your jury scores.

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts offers from fifty to sixty juried residencies per year to visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world. The Center does not discriminate on the basis of disability, sex, age, race, religion, or national origin.

The KHN Center accommodates up to five artists at a time for stays that vary from two to eight weeks. Each resident is provided with comfortable accommodations, ample studio space, and a weekly $100 stipend for the duration of their stay.

All residents are selected by a discipline-specific panel of professionals with decisions based on the quality of the proposal and the support materials submitted. Nebraska artists and those transitioning from graduate school receive special consideration by the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center. Each year, some residencies are reserved for these artists. Applicants are required to apply online through our Slideroom portal. A non-refundable application fee of $35 applies.

Application deadlines are March 1 for July - December residencies and September 1 for January - June residencies annually.

Residencies are available for 2 to 8 weeks stays. Each resident receives a $100 stipend per week, free housing, and a separate studio. The Center can house up to five artists of various disciplines at any given time.

We'd love more than anything to be surprised by something you've created that we've never even thought of. Don't forget: we're the online knitting magazine with a sense of humor, and we love patterns that create joy, whether they're weird, strange, fun or all three.

We don't do novelty yarn, and we rarely publish children's garments or accessories, unless they're exceptionally clever or unique. For the best chance of being published, submit your designs for men's or women's sweaters.

Remember, as you design for Knitty, ask yourself this: what makes your design unique? Tell us about it when you write your e-mail to us. Bullet points are fine. Be clear and succinct.

Submissions must be new -- not previously shown in any form [even just a picture] in another mag or on any website, including Flickr or Ravelry. Once your work is published in Knitty, you may include a picture on your website with a link to the Knitty website. After the issue has been archived [3 months later], you may do whatever you wish with your work, including self publishing or submitting it to other publications. The copyright for your work always remains with you.

We cannot accept submissions of crocheted items. Knitted items with a small amount of crochet, such as edging or necklines, are most welcome.

The honorarium ranges from $75-100 per published submission. Payment will be by Paypal and contributors can expect payment by the time the issue's surprise goes live -- midway between your issue and the next.

In addition to the honorarium, we offer you a highly visible, professional place to show your work to a large, well-connected audience, plus a link back to the website of your choice.

Once the submission deadline has passed and all potential designs are in hand, we begin the selection process. We endeavor to let every designer know if they will be included in the next issue as soon as possible.

Design Exchange, in partnership with RBC, is pleased to announce the RBC EMERGING DESIGNER COMPETITION, an exciting national competition that seeks to provide an unparalleled opportunity for emerging Canadian designers to gain recognition and exposure, while celebrating the immense and diverse design talent in Canada.

Eligibility
Participation is open to all Canadian designers with no more than five years of professional industry experience, across all disciplines. Projects submitted should be
realized work, or be in the process of being realized.

Why participate?
The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000, and will also be partnered with a curatorial mentor who will aid them in the development of an exhibition to be featured at the Design Exchange in January of 2014, to coincide with Toronto’s internationally celebrated Design Week.

Secondary awards will be presented, including best of category awards, where participants may receive a $1,000 cash prize.

All winning and honourable mention work will be featured onsite at the Design Exchange during the 2014 Design Week, in an awards publication, and in an online

3. Contact information for two professional references who are familiar with your work and your potential to be a positive member of our small community of residents.

4. Professional history from your current resume or vita. Your name MAY appear in the contents of this information.

5. An optional outreach proposal. If you are interested in doing outreach in our community, you can provide us with information about the type of activity or event you would like to facilitate. This is NOT required for you to be considered for a residency.

6. Support materials, or work samples, for your specific discipline. See the guidelines for your discipline below to help you prepare your materials. Your name MUST NOT appear in the contents of your support materials or in the corresponding file info entered in the online portal.

7. Application fee of $35 paid via credit card through the online portal. The fee includes our base fee plus an additional fee for media upload. All fees are paid through the portal; check or money order can not be sent to the Center.

The ninth biennial North American Textile Conservation Conference (NATCC) will focus on topics that concern modern materials. Topics include, but are not limited to:

•Technical descriptions, analyses, and conservation treatments involving modern materials, including new textile technologies applied to fiber-based objects such as contemporary dress, wearable art, fiber art and contemporary fabrics, either in total or in part;

•The ethics of using unstable modern materials in works of art and heritage artifacts and/or respect for the artist’s intention;

•Research into the impact of the environment on these materials and/or the artifacts created from them;

•The synergy between natural/synthetic materials when they coexist in an artifact;

•The use of modern materials, such as adhesives, consolidants and supports in conservation treatments;

•New approaches to “old” treatments and/or dilemmas in conservation.

Conservators, curators, conservation scientists, collection managers, archaeologists, anthropologists and others engaged with these topics are invited to submit proposals for presentations. Collaborations among any of the above professions or with others are encouraged.


Abstracts will be peer reviewed by the NATCC board. Authors of selected papers and posters will be notified by December 3, 2012. Authors are responsible for rights and permissions to publish photographs and/or graphics.

A juried fiber arts exhibition recounting and revering the tales fiber can reveal, with morals, legends, and myths as the influential yarn twists. The stories may be personal, filled with historical encounters, or fairy tales designed to reveal the hard work behind creative and clever craft. Tall tales filled with characters that have idealistic goals, unrealistic demands, and stubborn natures can be illustrated and brought to life through threads and fluff. The exhibition is open to all fiber arts media.

• All formats of fiber art will be considered, including wall-hung, free-standing, or pedestal mounted. Entries must be original and must not be copied, derivatives, or based on other copyrighted or published work.

“In Shades of Gray” explores the use of monochromatic, “black and white” in art. By eliminating the use of color, artists must address the other elements in their work and thus be challenged to look at their process in a new light. The Pump House Regional Arts Center is challenging artists to submit work for a juried exhibition, in media such as sculpture, paper, ceramics, paint, wood, metal, or any other media that artists may choose to work with including photography. The use of color will not be permitted.

Open to artists of any age. Submitted entries must not have been previously shown in La Crosse.

Acceptable Media:
Original 2-D and 3-D artwork in any medium, with the exception of film, video, and “live art.” Work must not exceed 48” in any dimension (including frame) and 70 lbs in weight. Only original work is allowed; reproductions of work from kits are not permitted.

Jury Fee:
A non-refundable fee of $25.00 will entitle the artist to submit artwork for jury. Current Pump House members may enter 3 pieces of artwork for jury, non members may enter 2 pieces. Please submit only ONE image per work. For 3-D work, more than a single image may be provided.

Awards:
Cash prizes of $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd, and $250 for 3rd place

Sales:
All artwork must be for sale. There is a commission fee of 40%.

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts offers up to fifty juried residencies per year to working artists from across the country and around the world. Residencies are awarded to visual artists, writers, composers, interdisciplinary artists, and arts or arts education scholars. The Center does not discriminate on the basis of disability, sex, age, race, religion, or national origin.

Residencies are available for two-, four-, six-, or eight-weeks stays. Each resident receives a $100 stipend per week, free housing, and a separate studio. The Center can house up to five artists at any given time.

 Application Guidelines: (truncated)

 To apply, mail the following five items (and no more) to Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.

1. The signed and completed (two-page) application form. (Jurors will not see the application.)
2. One digital copy of your current resume or vita no more than 5 pages in length. (Jurors will not see your resume or vita.)
3. Two statements: (a) a brief artist’s statement (100 – 200 words) about your work followed by (b) a brief description (100 – 200 words) of what you propose to work on while at the Center and why the residency is important to you at this stage in your career.
4. Support materials for your discipline as specified. Support materials are samples of art work and must be submitted anonymously.
5. A check or money order for Application fee: $25 (U.S. dollars only).

Fibre Design - Fibre Artists of Australia & New Zealand – A TAFTA Artists Book

TAFTA and Dragon Design are seeking images from artists/designers across Australia and New Zealand for publication in late 2010 of a juried collection showcasing fibre/textile objects created since 2000.

Fibre and textiles must be the main focus of all work, but choose work that refl ects the book’s concept for its 150 pages of Fibre Design.

Artists will receive full acknowledgement in the book and will retain copyright of their work.

GUIDELINES
TAFTA and Dragon Design are seeking images from artists/designers across Australia and New Zealand for publication in the Fibre Design book. The book is a juried collection showcasing fibre/textile objects created since 2000. The entries will be screened, in the first instance, by Dragon Design (Garry Benson & Jayne Stacey) for technical quality of images, adherence to the conditions of entry & payment of entry fees (if applicable). They will then be transferred to DVD and sent to a panel of jurors (from the tertiary education sector) for final selection. Fibre and textiles must be the main focus of all work. Please choose work that reflects the book's concept of Fibre Design.

2010 Quilt Contest – Seeking Color Harmony

“Seeking Color Harmony” is a contest designed to let you discover your inner quilter. Be it traditional or contemporary, folk or art quilt – capture whatever motivates you to quilt and create a piece to be entered into one of three categories. “Seeking Color Harmony” is a juried show and will be the feature Gallery display at Georgia Quilt Show 2010. The quilts then become a focal point of Original Sewing & Quilt Expo Fall 2010 events and will travel to Kansas City, MO and Minneapolis, MN, finishing their trek in Chicago, IL at Original Sewing & Quilt Expo’s newest location, the Schaumburg Convention Center.

NOTE: Prize winning quilts are required to travel with Original Sewing & Quilt Expo Fall 2010 events and will not be returned until after December 1, 2010.

Submission Guidelines (truncated)

1. Limit two entries per person, one quilt per category.
2. All quilts must be quilted by hand, by machine, or both.
3. Quilts should be in excellent condition and have been completed between August 31, 2008 and August 31, 2010.
4. A quilt that combines two or more techniques (other than quilting) should be indicated as Mixed Techniques (i.e., piecing/appliqué, appliqué/embroidery, piecing/trapunto, etc.)

Techniques: (Hand OR Machine)
Pieced, Appliquéd, Mixed Technique, Quilted

Categories:

1. Bed-sized quilts must be 60" to 110" in width and a length of 80" or more.
2. Large wall quilts must be 49" to 110" in width and a length of 40" or more.
3. Small wall quilts must be 12" to 48" in width and a length of 18" or more.

Entry fee: $25.00 per quilt.

NQA certified judges will award a $1,000 Prize for Best of Show and an additional $4,500 for First, Second and Third place awards in each of three categories: Bed Quilt, Large Wall Quilt and Small Wall Quilt. Ribbons for Honorable Mention
and Judges’ Choice will round out the recognitions.
