AQE 2016 is the 12th exhibition of this internationally acclaimed show set in suburban Philadelphia. “One of the distinctions of our show is our professional presentation of art quilts. The exhibition has been widely praised by reviewers and artists not only for exhibiting the quilts in our gallery settings but also for promoting the art quilt as an art form” stated Nancy Campbell, Executive Director of the Wayne Art Center.

Requirements

Work submitted must be innovative and original in design. Work derivative of other quilt artists or work created in a workshop with the collaboration of an instructor is not acceptable.

Work must be a personal expression of the artist’s intent.

Quilts submitted must have been completed after January 1, 2013.

If this quilt is framed, that information and the finished size including the frame must be listed on the application.

There is no size restriction for 2016.

A hanging device or bar MUST be included when shipping the quilt to Wayne Art Center. If the hanging device is not included with the artwork, the artist will be charged $25 in order to prepare a new device to properly install the work.

The artist contact email provided on the on-line application must remain active during the submission and exhibition process. The artist is responsible for checking their email for acceptance and/or decline and other information regarding the Art Quilt Elements 2016 exhibition.

Art quilts must be available FOR SALE.

Sale price that is noted on the on-line application is the FINAL price if the quilt is accepted into the 2016 exhibition. (If the applicant is unsure of how to price the work, please email karenlouise@wayneart.org and the work will be reviewed to offer pricing guidelines.

We reserve the right to omit from the exhibition accepted quilts that differ dramatically from what is represented by the digital image submitted.


Entry Fees: The entry fee is $45 for up to three quilts. Late application entry fee is $65 for up to three quilts.

Denali National Park Artist-in-Residence Program 2016

Program Overview

Since 2001, a total of 60 accomplished artists, writers, and composers have participated in the Artist-in-Residence program at Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska. Following a 10-day residency, each volunteers to lead a public outreach activity with visitors and to donate one piece of finished artwork to the program collection. For a two-year trial period beginning with this open call for residencies in 2016, the program will explore a preference for digital and performance-based donations rather than physical pieces for the program collection. Artists are challenged to create artwork and activities for visitors that offer a fresh and innovative perspective of the park drawn from their own experience.


Guiding Principles

The program seeks qualified and accomplished artists, writers, and composers with demonstrated achievement in creating pieces that are both high in artistic merit and accessible for general audiences.

The music composition residency established with this call for 2016 draws upon successful foundations in Composing in the Wilderness and Denali Music Festival programs which emphasize contemporary classical music. The final product should be a notated chamber piece for traditional instruments found in classical orchestral repertoire (with optional use of electronics and/or projection). The park hopes that the completed piece will be premiered at the Denali Music Festival in a subsequent year, and the selected composer will consult with park staff to ensure that the instrumentation and technical requirements are appropriate for that setting.

Within this general framework, there are no stylistic requirements.

The Cabrillo Gallery seeks entries for 12x12(x12): An Open Invitational 2014. All entries will be accepted providing they are 12” high x 12” wide (by a maximum of 12” deep) and each entry must hang on the wall. Open to California residents.

GUIDELINES
All artwork will hang on the wall and must fit the required dimensions. Artwork must be 12”high x 12”wide (including framing) and no more than 12”deep.
• Ready to hang
• Two-dimensional work must be 12”x12” including framing
• Three-dimensional work should be attached to a 12”x12” panel or framework and may not project more than 12” from the wall
• Digital video must be self-contained within a 12”x12” panel and plug and play capable

We are also looking for eight volunteers for the Zakka issue's Designer Challenge, each of whom will be sent seven fat eighths of these cute Retro Bake prints from Makower to make some kind of Zakka - pouches, slippers, eye masks, bags, tea towels, pot holders, tea cosies, tablet cases, cafetiere cosies - etc etc etc.

Abington Art Center Curatorial Review

Abington Art Center invites professional artists to submit proposals for consideration to participate in our Gallery, Sculpture Park and community venues. The deadline for Curatorial Review submissions is at the end of September. Art Center members receive free entry fee.

Each season the exhibition program consists of several exhibitions in our galleries featuring regional artists, and the installation of large scale sculptures in our outdoor sculpture park. Artists are often invited to participate in educational programs such as lectures, public forums, and workshops to stimulate and involve audiences in the experience.

The focus, criteria, and eligibility for each venue is different, so please read carefully before completing the application.

Kellner Gallery Program
AAC’s main gallery exhibitions are organized by our curatorial staff and are planned well in advance. The theme or media content of shows evolve through the review process. Exhibitions run for 7-8 weeks.

Solo Series
The Solo Series offers regional artists the opportunity to show a body of work for in an individual gallery.

Sculpture Park
Abington Art Center supports the creation and promotion of outdoor works by regional and national artists. Works with an ecological emphasis are of primary interest, both temporary/ephemeral and more permanent. Proposals for relocating previously created work will also be considered. Depending on funding and the scope of the project, an honorarium and installation support is available to aid the efforts of the artist. This amount will vary from project to project. Outdoor works must be suitable for a public setting and artists are encouraged to submit proposals that recognize the natural attributes of AAC’s elegant estate grounds. Works may remain on view from six months and up to two years and must be dismantled/removed by the artist.

Artist in Residence Projects
AAC will consider proposals for residencies in the Sculpture Park and/or with local schools and area institutions. If interested, enclose a statement outlining a proposed line of inquiry.

Selection Process

A panel of artists and park personnel appointed by the superintendent reviews applications from professional artists annually. Selection is made on the basis of required entry materials, vision, new and innovative ways of responding to the park, and recognized accomplishment as demonstrated in those materials.

Advisor for the Artist-in-Residence Program

Kesler Woodward, the park's first Artist-in-Residence, has painted Alaska and the circumpolar North, from Hudson Bay in Canada to the Bering Strait and Siberia, for more than 35 years. An Alaska resident since 1977, his work is included in all major public collections in Alaska and in museum collections on both coasts of the United States. He is Professor of Art, Emeritus, at the University of Alaska, where he taught painting for twenty years before retiring to paint full time in 2000. Kesler serves as the program advisor and on the selection committee.


Program Overview

Each residency takes place during a ten day period between June and September. Artists stay at the historic East Fork Cabin at Mile 43 on the Park Road. Artists are responsible for their own food and transportation. No stipend is provided. Each artist may bring with them one adult guest for the length of the residency. In exchange for the use of the cabin, each artist is expected --

> To donate one art piece to the park. The art may be selected for display in various venues throughout the park including the Eielson Visitor Center, the Denali Visitor Center, and the Murie Science and Learning Center. Finished pieces should not be larger than 60 inches in any direction, and should not require the park to provide additional infrastructure or permanent installation. For pieces that are especially fragile or vulnerable during display, storage, or transport, artists should provide appropriate frames, cases, or crates.

> To offer at least one public presentation in the park entrance area on the final day of the residency. Visual artists may choose between giving a demonstration, community-outreach activity, or an evening lecture-style presentation. Writers are expected to offer an evening presentation and reading.

All finished pieces are due at the park by Dec. 31 of the calendar year in which a residency takes place.

Design Exchange, in partnership with RBC, is pleased to announce the RBC EMERGING DESIGNER COMPETITION, an exciting national competition that seeks to provide an unparalleled opportunity for emerging Canadian designers to gain recognition and exposure, while celebrating the immense and diverse design talent in Canada.

Eligibility
Participation is open to all Canadian designers with no more than five years of professional industry experience, across all disciplines. Projects submitted should be
realized work, or be in the process of being realized.

Why participate?
The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000, and will also be partnered with a curatorial mentor who will aid them in the development of an exhibition to be featured at the Design Exchange in January of 2014, to coincide with Toronto’s internationally celebrated Design Week.

Secondary awards will be presented, including best of category awards, where participants may receive a $1,000 cash prize.

All winning and honourable mention work will be featured onsite at the Design Exchange during the 2014 Design Week, in an awards publication, and in an online
exhibition.

In celebration of the history of the slate industry in the Slate Valley region of northeastern New York and western Vermont, the Slate Valley Museum and Artful Vagabond Productions are inviting artists from throughout the continental United States to submit artwork for consideration in a juried exhibition entitled Slate as Muse, curated by Serena Kovalosky. The goal of the exhibition is to integrate the visual arts into the museum experience, providing visitors with unique perspectives of slate in a variety of artistic mediums and styles.

Participating artists will be invited to offer workshops and artist talks that are relevant to the show’s theme. Photography and plein air painting workshops to area quarries, slate carving workshops or other related programs will be offered to visitors throughout the five-month exhibition period in addition to an invitation for visitors to explore the scenic Slate Valley countryside which extends along the northeastern New York/Vermont border.


Eligibility: Open to all professional artists in the continental United States.

Media: Painting, sculpture, drawing, pastel, photography, digital art, mixed media and assemblage will be considered. Two-dimensional work must be framed in a professional manner with appropriate hanging hardware in place. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted. Three dimensional work must be properly and securely mounted.

Size Limitations: Maximum dimensions: 6 feet x 10 feet.

Theme: Artists will use slate as their muse to produce works of art that transcend the material. Three-dimensional artists will present sculptural work using slate as their primary medium while two-dimensional artists will feature slate as the subject of their work or use it as a medium to form their imagery. The original provenance of the slate used in the artwork will be at the discretion of the artist. Accepted artists are encouraged to share information on the provenance and any noteworthy “story” accompanying the acquisition or history of the slate, which will be included in the exhibition write-ups and publicity. Images and/or video may accompany the story.

Jury Criteria: All art must be original work that is designed and executed by the accepted artist. Artwork will be judged on artistic merit, an innovative reflection on slate as the subject and/or medium, and technical craftsmanship. The exhibition will focus on interesting and innovative uses of slate.

Submission Fee of $20 for up to three images, plus $5 for each additional image. Three dimensional artists may include one additional image of an alternate view of each submitted work at no charge. Submission fees are non-refundable.

The jurors make up an eclectic panel with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. They will judge the work based on its technique, design, originality and craftsmanship. It is important to send professional high quality images. Accepted artists must supply a digital image of at least 1800 pixels on the longest side (or 350 dpi with image size minimum of 4 x 6”) to be included in the E-catalog.


Awards

Our effort to cultivate organizations that acknowledge artists in various disciplines is ongoing. We are very pleased to announce that the Wayne Art Center will be offering for the first time $3,000 + cash in awards. The awards will be given from individuals and various organizations to artists participating in the 2014 AQE Exhibition.


Entry and Exhibition Fees

The entry fee is $45 for up to three quilts. (Each entry includes 1 overview image and 1 detail image.)
Late application entry fee is $60 for up to three quilts.


Insurance and Commission

The Wayne Art Center (WAC) will insure all artwork for the duration of the exhibition in the Davenport and Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Galleries. In the event of transit damage, the artist will be required to settle claims directly with your shipping carrier.

All quilt artwork must be for sale to be included in the ArtQuilt Elements 2014 exhibition, and the sale price must be listed on the entry application. NOT FOR SALE quilts will be disqualified from the submission process. WAC will retain 40% commission of work sold during the exhibition dates or on any sale that results from mediation by the WAC staff (Buyer must also pay 6% sales tax). Artists will receive 60% of the final selling price. Please be aware that on-line submitted artwork prices CANNOT be changed.

The Residency Program at the Bemis Center was started by artists for artists and is a program that truly trusts artists and seeks to support the creative process. The Residency Program provides support in the form of time, space and monthly stipends to 36 artists per year. Three month residencies allow artists time to reflect, research and take risks. Our famously large live/work studios and installation spaces allow artists to do the work they cannot do elsewhere. Access to on-site facilities and a monthly stipend allow each artist to concentrate fully on their creative process.

TIME 3 months of uninterrupted, self-directed work time.
SPACE The Bemis Center is housed in two urban warehouses totaling 110,000 square feet. Each artist is provided with a generously sized live/work studio with a private bathroom and 24 hour access to facilities including a wood shop, installation spaces, and a large sculpture fabrication facility.
SUPPORT $750 monthly stipend.

* Submit a current resume and/or CV. Collaborative teams must submit individual resumes/CV.

NICHE magazine will be accepting applications for the 2011 NICHE Awards competition starting May 15, 2010. Applications can be filed online at www.nicheawards.com.

The contest will include new categories this year: basketry, outdoor art, wedding jewelry, paper and religious/inspirational art. Finalists are invited to display their work in the NICHE Awards exhibit at the Winter Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia, Feb. 18-21, 2011. Winners will be announced at a special ceremony during the Buyers Market and featured in the Spring 2011 issue of NICHE.

The entry deadline for the professional division is Aug. 31, 2010. The deadline for student entries is Sept.30, 2010.

The NICHE Awards annually celebrate excellence and innovation in American and Canadian craft. Categories include Clocks, Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Metal, Wood, Jewelry and more.

Judging of entries is based on three main criteria:
• technical excellence, both in surface design and form
• a distinct quality of unique, original and creative thought
• market viability (professional entries only)
