The purpose of the Blue Ridge Fiber Show is to encourage and support hand loom weavers, spinners and felters at all levels and to increase public awareness of their work.


CATEGORIES
Amateur, Professional and Junior Divisions are in the following Main Categories:

a. Hand Weaving Category - includes textiles created on an Entrant controlled loom and involves interlacing (not inter-looping) two or more sets of elements at right or oblique angles to each other.

Sub-Categories:
1. Accessories (wearable) - scarves, shawls, purses, jewelry, liturgical, etc.
2. Decorative Functional (home decor) - linens, rugs, pillows, afghans, etc; excludes off-loom basketry.
3. Decorative Non-Functional - wall hangings other than tapestries, 3-D work, etc; excludes off loom basketry.
4. Constructed Clothing – cut and sewn garments made from at least 75% handwoven cloth.
5. Yardage - Minimum 18 inches (45.7 cm) width, 3 yards (2.7 m) length; maximum 60 inches (1.5 m) width, 10 yards (9.1 m) length, 40 pounds (18.1 Kg) weight. Entry must include an 8" x 8" (20.3 cm square) handling piece.
6. Tapestries – defined as weft faced textile using discontinuous wefts.

b. Spinning Category - Plant, animal or synthetic fibers twisted together to form yarn. Characteristics of spun yarn vary based on the material used, fiber length and alignment, quantity of fiber used, and degree of twist.

Sub-Category:
Hand Spun Yarn Into a Project - Entry must be a completed project using 100% hand spun yarns of plant, animal or synthetic fibers.

c. Felting Category - Technique that produces a non-woven sheet of matted material which is most frequently made from wool, hair or fur created by the entanglement of a mass of fibers that takes place when heat, moisture and pressure are combined. Includes needle felting. “Fulling” is excluded.

Sub-Categories:
1. Decorative - Figures, animals, sculptural, wall hangings, etc.
2. Accessories (wearables) - Scarves, shawls, purses, jewelry, liturgical, etc.
3. Garments - Fully executed garment, can include techniques such as nuno, traditional wet felting, needle felting, and/or in combination with other fabric.

AWARDS
The WNCF/HG intends to grant recognitions and monetary awards.

PROCEDURES
Entrants may submit up to two entries per Main Category (weaving, spinning, felting). One form may be used for up to two entries. Each pair of entries requires a separate form and separate non-refundable fee of $30 (Amateurs and Professionals) or $10 (Juniors). Fee may be check or money order in US funds.

felt :: feutre is curating a juried exhibition of the finest contemporary felt work being created by Canadian fibre artists.

This exhibit will showcase work that is new, fresh, challenging, visually exciting, and dynamic. Work that gives the artist and viewer an opportunity to stretch their perception, through the use of the medium or the concept/narrative presented.

This exhibit will open at felt :: feutre- Canadian Felting Week on Salt Spring Island, BC, and will have the opportunity to travel across North America and Europe to arrive back in Eastern Canada for felt ::feutre 2014.


ELIGIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS
:: Open to artists living and working in Canada, and Canadian citizens currently living abroad.
:: Entries must be original work completed after May 1, 2011.
:: Collaborative works will be considered as a single entry. Artists submitting both collaborative and individual works must apply separately.
:: Installation pieces must state all measurements in entry.
:: Work must be original in concept and design and not be the result of a class or workshop.
:: All work must be created primarily using traditional (wet) or needlefelting techniques.
:: All work MUST be available for touring for up to one year beginning September 24th, 2013.
:: Accepted work must be completely ready for installation including any essential display hardware, rods or stands, plus installation description.
:: Work other than that submitted and chosen by the jury may not be substituted.
:: Work will be insured while on exhibit.
:: A 40% commission on retail sales will be retained. Work sold during the exhibition will be replaced with work of a similar nature, to be accepted by the jury, before the exhibition opens in each new venue.

ENTRY FEE $35 non-refundable for up to three (3) entries must accompany the application.


AWARDS
Awards will be presented in each of the following categories:
Wearables, Two Dimensional Work, Three Dimensional Work, Interior Design, and will be selected by the jury.
There will also be a People’s Choice Award to be determined at the end of the opening exhibit.

felt :: feutre is curating a juried Felt Fashion & Wearable Art Show featuring the best and most exciting work being created by Canadian fibre artists and fashion designers working with felt.

We are looking for fantastic wearable art and fashion design that pushes the boundaries of what can be made and worn with felt.

Bold, dramatic, enchanting, exciting, exotic, elegant.

Headwear, accessories, garments, footwear.

We want to show where Canadian fibre artists can take this medium in the realm of fashion.

We are looking for work that represents the highest qualities of technical execution, and artistic /design sensibilities.

Wearable art pieces can be created using mixed media techniques but must have a strong and recognizable traditionally (wet) felted or needlefelted component.

This work will remain on display after the live show for the duration on the felt :: feutre event.

Textile, fiber and jewelry artists are invited to submit work for the annual juried December exhibit "Fabrications" at Crossings. Consider this an opportunity to explore your medium, stretch it to new lengths, twist and turn it into new forms, spin in new technologies or ancient methods, string on a bit of fantasy and let viewers feel what you’ve felt!

Entries can include artwork such as contemporary gallery pieces, wall hangings, 3-dimensional fiber sculpture, wearable art of all types, handcrafted jewelry, and holiday ornaments. Jurors will focus particularly on innovative designs and craftsmanship.

This exhibit is open to all fiber and jewelry artists interested in displaying and selling their work. Fiber arts may include batik, surface design, felting, quilting, rug hooking, spinning, weaving, knitting, fiber sculpture, handcrafted paper and note cards, and needlework. Jewelry arts may include fiber, beading, stone, metal, paper and multimedia.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
All entries must be original. No imports, commercial or manufactured items, or items created from kits or copied from published patterns will be accepted.

Submit 3-5 original pieces MAXIMUM, with an entry form.

ENTRY FEE
$15 per artist (not per piece).

INSURANCE
All artwork will be insured while at Crossings for the duration of the show. The artist is responsible for insuring the artwork in transit.

SALES
All work must be for sale. Crossings retains a 35% commission.

ARTEXTURES is organizing its 7th international textile art competition. This competition is open to all textile artists worldwide. The diversity of inspirations, techniques and trends that stimulate this art medium is discovered through the quilts/compositions entered in this competition.

This 7th edition is honored with these exceptional and prestigious prizes:
 The French Patchwork association has the pleasure of awarding the France Patchwork cash prize of an amount of one thousand Euros (1000€)
 Bernina will present a sewing machine
 The company Aurifil will award a selection of Aurilux threads.

The competition collection of quilts/compositions will be exhibited during 2013-2014 in different locations throughout France. This contest is open to all members of France Patchwork. For non-members, the membership fee to France Patchwork is due if your quilt/composition is selected for the competition by the jury (this fee includes insurance underwriting of your piece). A valid membership to France Patchwork is required for the duration of the competition.

ARTEXTURES promotes the growth and innovation of the living world of textile art. Creative re-invention is encouraged, as well as the exploration of new areas and pushing the textile envelope. Copies and realization of quilts/compositions created by other people are not allowed. Quilts/compositions realized as part of a workshop are not allowed.

The quilt is to be made from fabric, embroidery, pleating, woven vegetable matter, felt, fiber, plastic, flexible materials, ... Participation in the competition implies that the quilt/composition is less than one year old, and has never been presented to the public at any exhibition, nor on a website, nor published in a catalog, book or magazine. The selected quilts/compositions are to remain at the disposal of ARTEXTURES throughout the duration of the competition and exhibition.

“The felt of the shaman - on the footsteps of Joseph Beuys”


Felt artists and craftsm are invited to submit costumes, clothing accessories, wearable items for the event “The felt of the shaman - on the footsteps of Joseph Beuys” scheduled for Feltrosa 2012. The main material must be handmade wool felt, with the option of using all kind of techniques and to combine them with other materials and weaving techniques. Group projects are particularly appreciated.

The works will be exhibited at “Biella the Wool Company” in Miagliano (BI) until October 13, 2012. The exhibition will be opened on Saturday, May 19th at 5:30pm. A selected number of works will be worn for a performing act organized by the School of Contemporary Dance “Collettivo Duende” of Bologna, under the artistic direction of Annadora Scalone.

Joseph Beuys, German leading figure of the conceptual art scene between the 60s and the 80s, has left valuable evidence of his work in Italy: this is the case of the six boards held at the Palazzo della Penna in Perugia, which communicate with drawings and inscriptions the main topics of his poetic. For Beuys, the artist is like a shaman: his task is mediate between society and its evolutionary need of spiritual and material renewal, rather than produce aesthetic objects for the museum.

Juried exhibition of sculpture - dresses, clothing accessories, wearable items, scheduled for Feltrosa 2012.
- Application is limited to E.U. residents
- There is no limit to the number of works submitted by each participant. Participation is free.
- The jury will consider applications examining two good quality photos, in jpg format. These photos can be used by organizers to promote the event.
- The work will be selected by an independent panel of jurors.

Material Matrix is an exhibit celebrating the 60th anniversary of Contemporary Handweavers of Houston and honoring the many talented artists both within the guild and the Texas fiber community at large. The title for this exhibit was selected inrecognition of the convergence of traditional and contemporary techniques and themes in the work of 21st century fiber artists, and as a reflection of the open-ended and inclusive nature of today’s fiber community.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all members of Contemporary Handweavers of Houston, and to non-members who are Texas residents. All work must be the original work of the artist, and must have been completed within two years of the entry deadline. All work must be at least 50% fiber and utilized fiber related techniques. Collaborations are acceptable as long as all artists are recognized.

To be eligible, work must fit within one of the following categories:
- Handweaving -- including basketry and beadweaving
- Items made from handspun yarn (no skeins)
- Felt
- Silk Fusion
- Braiding

Items may be submitted as either 2D or 3D. The 3D category includes sculptural items, garments, and hats. The 2D category includes wall hangings, window treatments, rugs, table linens, and throws.

Installation work is encouraged.

The show is open to all CHH members, regardless of residence, and to non-members who are Texas residents. Entry fees will be

$30 for CHH members, $40 for non-members. A maximum of 3 entries per artist may be submitted. Only two images per entry will be allowed. All entries must be submitted in digital format via CD.

2. Hand Spun Novelty Yarn - Entry must be a skein of at least 50 yards of hand spun novelty yarn. Identify intended use.
3. Hand Spun Yarn For A Project - Entry must be a skein of at least 50 yards of hand spun yarn accompanied by an 8” x 8” swatch that is handwoven, knitted or crocheted showing how this yarn can be used in a completed project.

Publishing Opportunity

Lark Books seeks images from artists/designers across the globe for publication in a juried collection showcasing felt objects. Categories in the book will include Garments, Jewelry, Furniture, Bags, Art Pieces, Headwear, Functional Items/Home Décor, Floor and Wall Coverings, and more. Felt must be the focus of all work, but other materials are allowed. While Lark usually features hand-made work, for this book, innovative designs in industrial felt are acceptable.

There is no entry fee.

Artists will receive full acknowledgment in the book, one complimentary copy, and discounts on the purchase of additional books. Artists retain copyright of their work. Entries must be postmarked by February 13, 2010.

Lark accepts high-quality transparencies, slides, and digital images. Important: Lark Books will only publish photos of entries containing text and images that are free of copyright or for which the artist (or approved institution) holds copyright.

Coordinamento Tessitori, in collaboration with International Feltmakers Association, Filz Netz Werk and Fondazione Museo del Tessuto is organizing a juried traveling exhibition of felt textile art on the impact of human actions on the environment. The exhibition is the result of collaboration between the three European organizations that are dedicated to the promotion of the art of felt, in order to create opportunities and opportunities for interaction and cultural exchange.

Felters and textile artists are invited to take part by submitting entries for consideration by the selection panel. The exhibition is open to both individual artists and groups, but all artists must be members, or agree to become members for the duration of the exhibition tour, of one of the three organizations collaborating on the exhibition

The exhibition will be shown in different locations in Europe during 2010 & 2011, a catalogue will be printed in three languages, illustrated in colour.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: (truncated)
• The work must address the artist’s response to climate change; either in terms of the impact on the artist’s local environment or on a national or international level. It may be influenced by natural or man made changes to the environment.

• Each entrant may submit up to 2 works which have not been shown either through an exhibition or a publication before.

• The work will be selected anonymously, so must not bear the artist’s signature or other signs to identify it to the selection panel as being by that artist.

• The work must be made by hand, personally by the artist (or the artists who are submitting the work as a group work ), and after 31.12. 2008. The work must be original and be predominantly made using the technique of felt crafts. Work done during courses or under the guidance of teachers is not allowed.

• Every hand made felting technique is accepted, and the use of recycled materials and the inclusion of found objects is encouraged. It can be enriched by other textile techniques, installation and mixed media.

• The artist must submit two photographs, one of the whole piece and one a detail.

• Dimensions: the submitted work can be any size but the container by which the work will be transported, if it is selected for the exhibition, must not exceed one meter (1 m) in each side and must not weigh more than 10kg in total (work and container). In addition, the container must have clear instructions as to how the work should be packed and displayed.

• Two-dimensional works intended for wall hanging must have hanging devices attached. Work intended for freestanding display must be supplied with any rods or devices necessary for its display, otherwise the organisers will not take responsibility for the incorrect display of the work. Artists can include photos or drawings to document the mode of display.

FEES:
A participation fee of 25,00 Euro will be levied per artist after having been selected.

INSURANCE:
The works will be insured at the discretion of the galleries hosting the exhibition and will not be insured during transport: the artists who so desire will insure their work independently.

CATALOGUE AND PUBLICATIONS:
A brochure in three languages (Italian, English, German) will be printed. Artists can buy it at reduced prices. Artists will give permission for their photos to be used by the organisers free of charge for press & promotional purposes and for use within the catalogue.

SELECTION PANEL:
The work will be selected by a panel of qualified experts and art critics. The panel’s decision is final and will be based on the vision of works by projecting digital photos sent by the artists and compared with samples material attached.

The panel will not consider works that do not conform to this call for entries. If a selected work arriving for hanging is found to be significantly different from the photos and sample submitted for selection then it may be rejected from the exhibition.

DEADLINES:
The submission dossier containing photos, short CV and the completed and signed forms must be sent to the representative of the associations to which the artist belongs or intends to join by November 1, 2009 (postmarked). The name and address of each representative is given below.

The notification of the jury’s decision will be sent by mid-December 2009.

Selected artists will be informed of the dates by when work must be sent to the Prato Textile Museum.

Selected artists will be required to sign and return an artists’exhibition agreement.

The year 2009 has been declared «the International Year for Natural Fibres » by O.N.U, and the first Felt Festival will be held in Felletin, Creuse (France), from may 1st to may 4th 2009.

A real craze through Western Europe already, this will be the fisrt ever event of the kind in France. Born from cooperation between women felt-makers and the wool industry support committee, it will be the second wool event organized in Felletin. A local group of crafts designers are taking part in the development of the wool industry ans its skills, which involves felting quite naturally.

The felt festival wishes introduce the public to a large range of felt products and to its different uses in textile, art or industrial productions. Due to its varied and easy uses, felt is becoming very popular in creative leisure activities.

The professionnal side of this felt festival will be centred on training sessions and exhanges with other european networks of felt-makers.

Exhibition « Art felt »(truncated)

Dates: May 1st - 4th 2009
Location: Felletin
In a beautiful church built in the XVth
Conditions: The exhibits will demonstrate the creative possibilities of felt wool.
Works exposed
Works will be selected from the photos:
2 pictures (minimum size 10 x 11 cm)
2 photos copied on to a CD (JPEG size, 1500 pixels, 300 DPI)

If desired, you can sell your works during the exhibition. The Tourist Office charges 20% on the sale.

Regulation for the “Felt in the House” Challenge (truncated)

Conditions of participation, Techniques and Theme: The challenge is open anyone: Feltmakers, Artists, Craftpeople, Designers using wool felt in their creations. Exhibitor will be selected for the quality of their work. All techniques are accepted. Every exhibitor can present a maximum of 2 works.

The theme of the challenge is: "Felt in the house, felt in all the rooms."
The exhibition will explore the varied use of felt in the house: Decoration, Design, Architecture, Home furnishing ...

Selection committee: Chrystel Chavigny (felter Artist), an other felter, France Odile Perrin mane, a weaver, a member of the departmental chamber of agriculture, a member of the town of Felletin and the president of the Tourist Office.

Prize: The best work will win 500 euros.

Exhibition: The exhibition will be located in Felletin, 1st to 4 May 2009, in a church built in the XVth century,
in the town center. The exhibition will open to the public (free admission).

Convergence is a gathering of feltmakers, held every two years alternately in New Zealand or Australia and hosted by a different group and location.

The first Convergence was held in New Zealand when a group of feltmakers got together to share their knowledge and ideas about felt.

Sharing is still the underlying theme of Convergence today. Participants give all workshops and presentations on a voluntary basis. This means that there in no separate charge for any workshop or event on the program and participants may choose to attend as many or as few as they wish.

The Convergence runs for 4 days and fees cover all meals and accommodation.
Arrival Sunday; Classes Monday-Thursday. Departure Friday.

Come learn, teach and enjoy four days of tremendous fun, companionship and experience.
