Small Expressions is an annual, international, juried exhibit featuring high quality, contemporary small-scale works. Small Expressions is sponsored by the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc., to showcase small scale works created using fiber techniques in any media, not to exceed 15 inches (38 cm) in any direction including mounting, framing, or display devices.

Juror: Laura Foster Nicholson, textile artist known for handwoven brocaded tapestries. Laura owns LFN Textiles, designs jacquard ribbon and household textiles, and licenses designs to Crate & Barrel, Land of Nod, Renaissance Ribbons, Larsen, Inc., and others.

Jurying HGA seeks to feature work which is not only of the highest caliber in craftsmanship, and technical ability but which also speaks to intricacy of expression, intimacy of design, thoughtful communication, and visual excitement.

The juror will independently screen all images and make the preliminary selection of all work in the exhibition. Entries will be evaluated on concept, design, technique, craftsmanship and creative exploration.

Eligibility:

1. Three pieces may be entered per artist. Works exhibited in previous Small Expressions exhibits are not eligible.
2. Submitted work is limited to works made using fiber techniques (interlaced, felted, stitched, dyed, coiled, knotted, pulled, spun, etc.) and can be of any material.
3. All work must be of exhibition quality, completed within the last two years (since January 2011), and not previously published in any national or international print publication.
4. The size of the finished work may not exceed 15 inches (38 cm) in any direction including any mounting, framing, and/or display devices.
5. Work executed under classroom/educational guidance or supervision is not eligible.

Entry Fees: $25 HGA member, $40 non-HGA member, Student (attach copy of student ID from accredited educational institution),no fee. Payment in US funds by check or money order or charge to credit card.

Awards: First, second, and third place awards and the HGA Award will be selected by the juror. Additional special criteria awards may be available.

The 9th Biennial International Miniature Print Competition and Exhibition is limited to works that are no more than four square inches (25.8 square cm). This juried exhibition and competition aims to encourage artists to explore the miniature print format. Further, it is an opportunity for artists and the public to view the current concerns of printmakers from near and far. Since its inception in 1997, the competition has attracted entries by more than 1500 artists from every continent and every state in the U.S.A.

ELIGIBILITY: All fine-art printmaking mediums, including relief, intaglio, lithography, silkscreen, monotype, and original digital media. (No drawings, photographs, or direct reproductions are eligible.) Only two-dimensional works will be accepted.

SIZE REQUIREMENTS
TOTAL IMAGE AREA: no larger than 4 square inches (25.8 square cm). For example: 1 x 4 in. (2.53 x 10.1 cm), 2 x 2 in. (5 x 5 cm), etc.
PAPER SIZE: no larger than 7.5 x 11 inches (19 x 27.9 cm)

ENTRY FEE: Each artist may submit up to three prints for a fee of $20 for CCP members*, $30 for non-members and $40 for international entries (international entry fee includes return postage**). Two additional entries will be accepted for an additional fee of $10 each. The fee must accompany the entry form.

Open to artists residing in the United States. Only original artwork executed by artist within the last two years and not previously shown in a juried Larson Gallery show will be considered. Artwork must be executed and designed by exhibiting artist. The Gallery makes the final decision regarding eligibility.

Eligible media: A variety of media is welcomed including fiber, metal, beadwork, leather, paper, wood, etc. All works that embrace the theme of “accessorizing the body” are eligible; this includes jewelry, combs, hair ornaments, belts, scarves, sashes, satchels, shoes, ties, hand bags, gloves, hats, handkerchiefs and more! Artwork must be functional and wearable. Garments and clothing are not eligible.

Artwork will be juried from digital photo files submitted on your CD.

Each applicant is required to submit five quality jpg images representative of work to be exhibited in one of the following categories: Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Leather, 2-D Mixed Media, 3-D Mixed Media, Painting, Paper, Photography, Sculpture, Wood, Graphics/Printmaking, Digital, or Drawing/Pastels. A sixth jpg image must show display booth with work visibly representative of the quality in the five images of your work. The booth image should also represent your professional presentation.

All work must be original, designed and executed by the accepted artist. Work created in production studios is not eligible. Only artists displaying their own original work may participate. No stand-in or proxy exhibitors will be allowed to represent the artist/s. If two artists collaborate, it is regarded as a joint (one) entry.

JURORS: The work of each applicant will be reviewed by a four-member panel of art professionals. (TBA)
The work will be juried based on originality; execution of design, technique, and craftsmanship; creative use of materials, and aesthetic qualities. Each artist’s images will be viewed simultaneously and must accurately represent work to be exhibited.

Exhibit Space
Artists are provided a 10’ x 10’ Ground Space. Exhibitors set up on a large grassy area. Artist must provide display system, including canopy. Display units should be designed for outdoor use and capable of withstanding the elements.

The Four Rivers Craft Show is highly acclaimed among artists for incredible organization, quality of exhibition, artist hospitality, sales promotion, and community support. The Festival has earned a stellar reputation as an award winning and well juried visual arts venue.

THE FESTIVAL MISSION: To celebrate the arts and this community through a festival accessible to anyone – physically, psychologically, and economically.

Requirements (truncated)
Each applicant is required to submit five quality jpg images representative of current work to be exhibited at the Festival. A sixth jpg image must show display booth with work visibly representative of the quality in the five images of your work. The booth image should also represent your professional presentation.

All work must be of original design executed by the accepted craftpersons. Only craftpersons displaying their own work may participate. Work created in production studios is not eligible.

JURORS: The work of each applicant will be reviewed by a three-member panel of craft professionals. (TBA) The work will be juried based on its being hand-crafted and innovative, with evidence of personal imagination and originality, and the use of quality materials. The Four Rivers Craft Show will reflect a wide variety of media, both functional and decorative, exemplifying folk art, traditional and contemporary craft.

The world has become keenly aware of the way our bloated consumer culture produces tremendous volumes of trash which daily feed the ever growing mountainous landfills.

This exhibit encourages artists working in fiber to become infatuated with the idea of exploring the possibilities of this disposable and disregarded stuff as the basis for this submission. Our challenge for fiber artists everywhere is to take the most ordinary, non-precious and every day materials and to create the most extraordinary. The reuse of every conceivable material is already imbedded in the psyches of many working artists today.

This exhibit will require the use of materials which are not durable and are normally considered ephemeral and short lived.

Rules of Entry (truncated)

• All work must be original, one-of-a-kind, made by the artist submitting the entry.
• Artists may submit up to a maximum of three images, completed within the last three years, to be in the exhibition. Due to space restrictions, 2-D work must be 40"x 40" or less, 3-D work on pedestals no larger than 18" x 18" x 18". Freestanding works will be accepted. No large installations can be considered. Yardage is acceptable.
• Selected artists are responsible for costs of shipping their work to and from the gallery.

Juror: Warren Seelig

Warren Seelig lives and works in Rockland, Maine. He holds the rank of distinguished visiting professor in the Fibers/Mixed Media program at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he teaches, curates and writes on various subjects related to textile, fiber and material studies.

Awards: Best in show award: $250.00 and a solo show during 2012-2013 exhibit season.

Exhibition Objectives
“Pattern Play” is a group exhibit open to all media about ways that artists discover and utilize different types of patterns in their art work. These patterns may be derived from a variety of sources and should be a prominent aspect of the art work.

For many artists natural geometries, such as such as in the radial symmetry of a starfish, the uncurling of a fern leaf, the branching veins of a leaf, or the spiral of a nautilus shell, may be depicted or referenced in ways that reveal their patterns. Inspiration may also come from geometric formulas such as tessellations and fractals or the principles that create optical illusions. Another rich source of patterns often utilized in new ways are derived from specific cultures such as the zigzag patterns of Mexican Art that reference the tiered steps of the ancient Aztec pyramids, multitudes of colored dots that may reference aboriginal art, and intricate lattices that may make one think of Islamic art and architecture.

Although every pattern has some element such as the shape, line, or color, that repeats in a predictable manner, these predictable patterns may be utilized by artists in sometimes quite unpredictable methods or combinations.

Eligibility
Pattern Play is open to professionals and students 18 years of age or older who reside in Kentucky and neighboring states (IL, IN, OH, WV, VA, TN, MO). All work must be original and properly prepared for displaying. All work, unless indicated as NFS, will be available for sale during its exhibition at LASC. The LASC will collect 30% commission on any work sold during the exhibition.
