Transmission Gallery invites submission of small-scale assemblage or found object sculpture and/or wall mounted assemblage artworks for exhibition in Oakland, California, April 25 – June 8, 2024.  3D artwork up to 7 inches wide x 7 inches deep x 8 inches high. Wall pieces up to 7 inches high x 7 inches wide. Accepted artwork must be for sale and may be priced up to $900.

Application Requirements

• Artists nationwide are invited to participate.
• Work must be original to the submitting artist, ready to display, and must include found objects/found materials.
• 3D artwork may not exceed 7 inches wide x 7 inches deep x 8 inches high. Wall pieces may not exceed 7 inches high x 7 inches wide and must be properly prepared for hanging.
• Artists are welcome to provide a statement, although it is not a requirement.

In celebration of the history of the slate industry in the Slate Valley region of northeastern New York and western Vermont, the Slate Valley Museum and Artful Vagabond Productions are inviting artists from throughout the continental United States to submit artwork for consideration in a juried exhibition entitled Slate as Muse, curated by Serena Kovalosky. The goal of the exhibition is to integrate the visual arts into the museum experience, providing visitors with unique perspectives of slate in a variety of artistic mediums and styles.

Participating artists will be invited to offer workshops and artist talks that are relevant to the show’s theme. Photography and plein air painting workshops to area quarries, slate carving workshops or other related programs will be offered to visitors throughout the five-month exhibition period in addition to an invitation for visitors to explore the scenic Slate Valley countryside which extends along the northeastern New York/Vermont border.


Eligibility: Open to all professional artists in the continental United States.

Media: Painting, sculpture, drawing, pastel, photography, digital art, mixed media and assemblage will be considered. Two-dimensional work must be framed in a professional manner with appropriate hanging hardware in place. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted. Three dimensional work must be properly and securely mounted.

Size Limitations: Maximum dimensions: 6 feet x 10 feet.

Theme: Artists will use slate as their muse to produce works of art that transcend the material. Three-dimensional artists will present sculptural work using slate as their primary medium while two-dimensional artists will feature slate as the subject of their work or use it as a medium to form their imagery. The original provenance of the slate used in the artwork will be at the discretion of the artist. Accepted artists are encouraged to share information on the provenance and any noteworthy “story” accompanying the acquisition or history of the slate, which will be included in the exhibition write-ups and publicity. Images and/or video may accompany the story.

Jury Criteria: All art must be original work that is designed and executed by the accepted artist. Artwork will be judged on artistic merit, an innovative reflection on slate as the subject and/or medium, and technical craftsmanship. The exhibition will focus on interesting and innovative uses of slate.

Submission Fee of $20 for up to three images, plus $5 for each additional image. Three dimensional artists may include one additional image of an alternate view of each submitted work at no charge. Submission fees are non-refundable.

The objective of the Faena Arts Center is to provide a space for the most cutting-edge expressions in contemporary art through a program of exhibitions with a strong interdisciplinary focus.

We believe that the boldest of today’s art can be found along the borders where traditional disciplines come together: the lines where the visual arts merge with design, architecture, new technologies, fashion and literature.

THE FAENA PRIZE FOR THE ARTS

This is an open call to artists across the world that offers US$25,000 in prize money and US$50,000 to finance the production of a site-specific project. The project will be exhibited at the Faena Arts Center in mid-2013. In addition, two special mentions will go to two other projects with a prize amount of US$500 each.

Concept of the Faena Prize for the Arts:

This edition of the Faena Prize for the Arts is reserved for site-specific projects, that is, projects especially conceived for the physical and symbolic space of our new exhibition room.

The call is for new projects in different artistic fields and/or interdisciplinary projects (installations, performances, paintings, sculptures, photographs, works that include design and architecture, film or video pieces, and all hybrids of the aforementioned disciplines) that clearly reflect on the space of the Faena Arts Center, respond to the center and/or occupy the center's space in a significant way.

This Prize is a chance for applicants to produce large-sized pieces, but neither size nor scale is a requisite for winning the prize.

Performance or theater pieces that involve “performances” will be considered, provided that they also include a permanent exhibition.

Eligibility:

All individuals over the age of 18 can participate in the Competition, including young artists, artists with an established career and well-known artists (the “Applicants”). Both individuals and art collectives can apply. Each art collective can present one project. The artists who are part of an art collective that presents a project can also present their own individual project.

Jury:

The prize winner will be selected by an international jury of three experts: Carlos Basualdo, the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and an Adjunct Professor at the IUAV University in Venice, Italy; Caroline Bourgeois, curator of the François Pinault Foundation exhibit, and Inés Katzenstein, the Art Department Director at the Torcuato Di Tella University. The jury selection will be supervised by Ximena Caminos, Executive Director of the Faena Arts Center.

The broad theme of “UNBOUND~VOL II” encompasses all of the possibilities of what we may think or may not think a “book” is. Is it story? An entry to another world? An exploration? What does it indicate? This juried show looks to explore these ideas of “the book” and all the ways artists use its format as a stepping off point or as a material to explore new ideas.

ELIGIBILITY: This call for submissions is open to all New England and New York residents of the U.S. who are 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2D (wall mounted) and 3D media, installation and assemblage (no film or video). All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Note: reproductions, if used as mixed media, will be considered.

JURY FEE: $30 for up to 3 pieces and up to two images per piece.

JUROR: Daniel E. Kelm is a book artist, known for his innovative structures and deep knowledge of materials. Along with having an extensive history of publishing and exhibiting, Daniel also has taught at academic institutions and Book Art forums throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Abecedarian Gallery is located in Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District. The gallery presents local & national artists working across multiple disciplines with an emphasis on contemporary book arts, works on paper, assemblage & collage.

Imagination Navigation: a national juried show of assemblage & collage works open to artists at least 18 years of age who can provide a US shipping address.

Entries must meet one or both of the following definitions:

Assemblage - an artistic process in which a three dimensional artistic composition is made from putting together found objects.

Collage - an artistic composition made of various materials (as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface.

Photographic or digital collage entries will not be accepted into this exhibition.

Jurors & Awards
All entries will be juried by Denver artist Dave Seiler. Mr. Seiler is an artist and exhibition preparator for several museums & art centers in the Denver area.

Up to $1200 cash/purchase and exhibition awards will be given at the discretion of gallery director Alicia Bailey.

Entry Limitations
A maximum of three artworks may be submitted per artist. 2-D works cannot exceed 60 inches in either dimension (framed).

3-D works must fit through a standard doorway when crated & not exceed 50 pounds in weight.

Sales
All artworks entered must be for sale. All work is sold on consignment. The artist receives 60% of the sale price. Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 30 days of the close of the show.

A $30 non-refundable entry fee for up to three entries must accompany each entry.
