July 6, 2024 – September 15, 2024
Derived from the French verb coller, meaning to glue/stick, collage refers to both the method and art form in which paper and other media are arranged and affixed to a substrate. Though the first evidence of collage coincided with the invention of paper in China around 200 BC, it was not until the early 20th century that artists first used it as a technique.
Collage has since evolved into a popular and powerful medium that transcends traditional artistic boundaries. Versatile and accessible, collage allows for a creative amalgamation of 2- and 3-D materials, creating a fascinating visual interplay of textures, colors, and forms that explore the juxtaposition of seemingly disparate elements. From analog cut-and-paste to digital layering, this exhibition celebrates the deft use of materials and creative spirit of collage.

The Print: the 32nd Annual Print Exhibition
The Print: the 32nd Annual Print Exhibition
Ann Arbor Art Center
Ann Arbor, MI
May 16, 2014 to June 22, 2014
Printmaking is an expansive process—generative in its nature and experimental in technique. Many artists use printmaking as a tool to transcend media boundaries and develop sincere creative expression; most traditional processes incorporate sculpture, painting and drawing as integral to their execution. In its contemporary form, print media easily spreads between installation, street art, collage, zines and artist books, as well as the long-held tradition of a limited edition of ink on paper. This exhibition, 32 years in the running, encompasses how print media has evolved—and continues to evolve—as a discipline. The Print 2014 is an invitation to showcase the status of print media today, dynamic and ever-evolving. We are asking the question: what is the print today?
Eligibility
This exhibition is open to any artist who is a current resident of Michigan. Qualifying artists may submit a maximum of three entries in any hand-pulled printmaking technique (including lithography, intaglio, serigraphy, relief, and monotype), a combination those techniques with new print processes, or works made only with new print processes. These works must have been completed within the past two years. Works submitted must not have been previously shown in The Print or any other previous Ann Arbor Art Center exhibition.
To Submit
Artists may submit up to three entries for consideration.
Entry Fee
A non-refundable entry fee of $30 for Art Center members and $35 for non-members entitles each artist to enter.
Juror
Amanda Lilleston is a print media artist living and working in Ann Arbor, MI.
