Established in 2001, the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize attracts strong support from artists, collectors and critics and is the first and only national acquisitive prize that showcases the quality and diversity of sculptures of smaller dimensions.

Over 500 entries from national and international artists are received annually and approximately 40 finalists' works are exhibited over a 16 day period at the historic Woollahra Council Chambers in Double Bay, Sydney, Australia.


ELIGIBILITY

1. For the purpose of The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, sculpture is defined as a freestanding, non-site specific, three-dimensional object, constructed of durable materials. Only freestanding works will be accepted for selection.

2. Entries should not exceed 80cm in any dimension, and must have a stable base. The overall weight and dimensions must allow for easy transportation, and not exceed the carrying capacity of two average persons.

3. All entries must be the original work of the submitting artist and must have been designed or completed within two years prior to October 2014.

4. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit. A separate application form and entry fee must accompany each entry. Only one work per artist
will be shown in the exhibition.

5. A non-refundable entry fee of $40 (including GST) must accompany each entered work. Entry fees contribute towards the cost of staging the Prize. Woollahra Council reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Prize and exhibition, in which case the entry fees will be refunded.


PRIZES

Prizes for the 2014 award total AUD$19,000 and include:

• The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, an acquisitive award of $15,000
• The Special Commendation, a non-acquisitive award of $2,000
• The Viewers' Choice, a non-acquisitive award of $1,000
• The Mayor's Award, a non-acquisitive award of $1,000

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc.



Needle Arts is the official magazine of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America. Needle Arts is published four times a year for EGA members and contains designer profiles, projects, articles, and a calendar of events.

EGA is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the study and preservation of the art of embroidery.

General Guidelines (truncated)
  1. Electronic submissions via e-mail are preferred. Submit an electronic copy of the text as a plain text file, preferably in Microsoft Word. If e-mail is unavailable and a CD cannot be provided, a type-written, double-spaced copy. As a general guide, one typed, double-spaced page equals 250–300 words. Submissions may be sent via e-mail to the editor at EdNA@egausa.org.
  2. Submissions will be edited to fit space limitations; for grammatical correctness, clarity, and appropriateness of content; and to meet editorial standards.
    Needle Arts reserves the right to edit all manuscript.
  3. Include a brief biographic note to serve as a contributor’s notes.
  4. High resolution photography. Submit digital photographs taken at 300dpi in jpg, tiff, or eps format. Digital cameras should be set to the largest pixel image size. Slides and printed photography may be submitted.
  5. Needlework that is to be published in the magazine should have the finest finishing possible.
  6. Drawings, stitch diagrams, and charts shall be clear and accurate. Rendering in electronic format is preferred.


Needle Arts deadline dates for submission to the editor are:

February 1 for the June issue;
May 1 for the September issue;
July 25 for the December issue; and
November 1 for the March issue.

Firehouse Art Center Call for Artists

The beautiful Firehouse Art Center historic building features a large exhibition space for premier artists and a smaller space for emerging talents. Exhibitions in the main gallery are confirmed one year in advance, while exhibitions in the Art Department can be confirmed throughout the year.

Artists that are interested in showing their work are invited to submit an ARTIST PROPOSAL for an individual or group show in any and all mediums, including contemporary art and installation. Our open submission policy allows any artist to submit their work to us at any time. Submitting to the Firehouse is an opportunity for Solo Exhibition space with a proposed theme of your choice. Sometimes we combine several artists into one exhibition.

All Colorado submissions will also be considered for the Curators Choice Showcase, featuring the best Colorado-based artists of the past year.

REQUIREMENTS (truncated)

$30 Submission Only or $60 Artist Submission fee by check or PayPal
6 Images of submitted work (300 dpi, jpg format on CD)
Artist Bio, Statement & Proposal for Exhibition


Deadline: July 25th, 2014. Submissions will continue to be accepted after the date, but may be considered for 2015 rather than 2014.

All accepted artists are required to join the Firehouse Art Center ($45/yr) Member artists are given a page on the artist page on the website.

Criteria for Exhibitions

The following criteria are based on broad goals relating to the Firehouse Art Center mission which includes enriching the community through quality visual art exhibits. These criteria allow the artist to determine the appropriateness of the exhibit in meeting this mission. Any exhibit that the committee develops will be done so with these criteria in mind.

•The exhibit provides a unique and diverse art experience for the community.
•The exhibit has potential to attract a regional audience that ultimately expands the Art Center's audience base and increases awareness of the Art Center.
•The exhibit meets expectations based both on artistic excellence and the material's relationship to the audience of Longmont and Boulder County.
•The exhibit positively promotes area artists both professional and emerging.
•The exhibit appropriately uses the gallery space.

A collaboration between The Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc. and Manly Art Gallery & Museum.

The New Quilt exhibition has been hosted by Manly Art Gallery & Museum for the past twenty years and for the twenty first year, it was agreed that a new vision for the exhibition be achieved. This is a curated, themed exhibition with specific selection criteria. This is a move away from the past and it is hoped that it will offer further opportunities for all textile artists to enter a quilt.

ELIGIBILITY
Entry is open to all textile artists.

YOUR QUILT (truncated)
* For the purpose of this exhibition, a quilt is defined as a layered stitched textile with at least two (2) distinct layers bound together by stitches throughout the piece.
* Entries must be the original, non-traditional design of the entrant. Works made under supervision in a class or workshop are not eligible.
* Quilts submitted must be new work. See Selection Criteria for further information.
* Entrants may submit up to two (2) quilts, sets of quilts are considered as a single unit.
* Quilts may be any shape or size, 2D or 3D.
* Quilts may be for sale. A commission of 30% will be retained.

SELECTION CRITERIA
There are six (6) requirements:
1. All quilts must be proposed new work;
2. A 100 - 150 word statement, outlining the artist’s response to the theme, ‘Regeneration’;
3. Details of the design progression and colours, including sketches and drawings;
4. Materials to be used;
5. Dimensions of the work;
6. Up to five (5) images of previous works.

SELECTION
Selection will be made on the basis of originality and innovative use of media. The curator’s decision will be final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.

Entrants whose work has been accepted will be notified by mail/email and informed of delivery instructions.

ENTRY FEE
A non-refundable entry fee of $45.00 (for up to two (2) quilts) must accompany entry.

The American Craft Council's mission is to champion craft. As a national, nonprofit public educational organization founded in 1943 by Aileen Osborn Webb, the Council actively promotes the understanding and appreciation of contemporary American craft through its bimonthly magazine AMERICAN CRAFT, annual juried shows presenting artists and their work, leadership conferences, awards for excellence, research library, workshops and seminars.

STANDARDS STATEMENT
To ensure a high level of quality in the work exhibited in American Craft Council Shows, each jury is instructed to adhere to these guidelines in making decisions: whether produced in quantity or as one-of-a-kind, the ideal handmade work refl ects excellence and the unique vision of its maker; it must be well conceived and skillfully executed, without technical faults.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
To exhibit in any American Craft Council Show in 2011 an artist must submit five digitalimages to the annual jury by July 25, 2010 at 12 midnight (MDT) via Zapp, the online application system (http://www.zapplication.org/) and receive a jury screening score. This score will be used to judge acceptance into all 2011 shows. File submissions are accepted only once every year.

NOTE: Application deadline for 2011 shows is Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 12 MIDNIGHT MDT. The late application deadline for 2011 shows is August 1, 2010 at 12 midnight MDT. A $100 late fee will apply for all applications received between July 25 and August 1.

Artists apply in one of three categories that best defi nes their work. A separate jury of seven people is chosen for each of the three application categories. All works must be the designs of the applicant and made in the United States or Canada by the applicant or under his/her direct supervision.

Category I Functional or sculptural work for interiors/exteriors – glass and ceramic
Category II Functional or sculptural work for interiors/exteriors – all other media
Category III Clothing, jewelry and wearable accessories

Applicants are asked to further classify their work by identifying the principal material in which they work (ceramic, fiber, glass, metal, etc.) or the primary type of work they create (furniture and lighting, floor coverings, jewelry, etc.)

NEW ARTIST CATEGORY
The American Craft Council encourages new and emerging artists to apply to its shows. An artist may choose to apply in this category only if he/she has not exhibited in any Council show. Exhibitors accepted in this category receive specialized signage, and are promoted through press releases and show websites.

SPECIAL CATEGORIES
Show applicants in all media are eligible to participate in these special categories, which are used in promoting the shows. If you exhibit in one or both of these special categories, you will be listed in the show directories by these categories as well as by your work medium.

GREENCRAFT
Exhibitors who use found, sustainable green or recycled materials and/or eco-friendly techniques are eligible to participate in the GreenCraft category. Participants will receive special consideration by our PR teams, colorful signage at the show, and a special notation in the show directory.

LAWN & GARDEN
Exhibitors who make furniture, décor, accessories for outdoor and/or lawn and garden are eligible to participate in the Lawn & Garden category. Participants will receive special consideration by our PR teams, colorful signage at the show, and a special notation in the show directory.

HANDMADE UNDER $100
Exhibitors who make a portion of their work at price points of $100 or less are eligible to participate in the Handmade Under $100 category. Participants will receive special consideration by our PR teams, colorful signage at the show, and a special notation in the show directory.

FEES
A $10 processing and handling fee must accompany each set of images. Applications to each show in the 2011 show season are $30 per show for each set of images submitted. Jury results for all shows will be e-mailed to shows applicants in September 2010.

Booth fees vary by show location. In general, American Craft Council booth fees cover: space rental; booth sign; listing in specifi c show programs; one free assistant badge per show; five free guest tickets for each retail show in which an exhibitor participates; promotional materials for the exhibitor’s use; national advertising campaigns; website presence; discounted tickets on public days.
