The Al & Mickey Quinlan Residency is an application-based 8-week program for emerging and mid-career Midwest artists focused in the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, created and led in partnership with the Miller Art Museum. The 2024 resident is invited to live and work at the Dome House. The residency serves the broader mission of the Dome House to provide artists working in all mediums with space for creativity, contemplation and inspiration.
The residency is limited to applicants who reside in the Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
STIPEND & SUPPORT: Artist in residence (AIR) will receive a $500 stipend to support creative endeavors while in residence at the Dome House Al & Mickey Quinlan Artist Residency. The stipend is to be used for professional supplies, shipping of supplies and artwork, and, if applicable, other residency-related expenses outside of the Miller’s stated obligations. The stipend can also be used for personal expenses outside of the residency. No receipts or accounting of expenditures are required.
EDUCATION & OUTREACH: AIR will be expected to actively engage the public through educational outreach for a minimum of 5 hours per week.
HOUSING & MEALS: AIR from outside of the Door County area will have living quarters in a semiprivate loft space at the Dome House, which also houses the adjacent studio/work space. The space is fully furnished. Basic cooking equipment will be provided; AIR will be responsible for groceries and preparation of meals. AIR is expected to cover personal living expenses, additional materials and supplies above those furnished and any other expenses relating to the cost of producing work incurred while in the program.

The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country where the perfect year-round climate and stunning lake and mountain views have long established the region as an international artist mecca. We now offer four live/work spaces. Residents will be inspired by the natural beauty, history and culture of this special part of central Mexico. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico boasting abundant cultural resources: museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies. Xochi Quetzal is the Aztec goddess of creativity and fertility and protector of artisans. She is sure to inspire you during your stay!
MISSION: Our aim is to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from having uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity. By providing free housing and a generous food allowance, we hope that our residents can make artistic progress without the stress and distractions of daily life.
CRITERIA: National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, new media makers and musicians over the age of 25 are welcome to apply. We base our selections on artists who demonstrate artistic accomplishment, submit a well-conceived residency project, indicate that this residency will make a significant impact and provide evidence of the self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. One of the live/work spaces is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply.
FEES: This is a free one-month residency. Your residency offers you a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, weekly maid service, a food stipend of $1,000 pesos plus all utilities. You will only need to pay for your laundry, local transportation, entertainment and additional food. International calls can be made via skype. You are responsible for your travel to and from Mexico. Depending on your arrival and departure times, our Program Administrator, Alberto Alvarado, may be able to pick you up at the airport. If not, it is easy to arrange an airport taxi which will cost $400 - 500 pesos each way depending on the time of day you travel.
RESIDENCY DATES: Our new summer residency program offers 1, 2 and 3-month residencies in June, July and August 2014. The winter residency runs December 16, 2014 - January 16, 2015 and the Spring residency runs May 1 - May 31, 2015. Additional residencies will be announced to our mailing list.

HMC International Artist Residency Program, a not-for-profit arts organization based in Dallas, TX / Budapest, Hungary - provides national and international artists with the opportunity to produce new work while engaging with the arts community in Budapest, Hungary. "Artist residencies allow the time for dialogue and create connections that contribute to the future.."
The residency is an opportunity for artists, designers, theorists, writers and curators to undertake a period of focused work at the HMC.
An important part of the creative process is taking time for renewal. Whether you are ready to explore a life-long passion, looking for inspiration or eager to take on a new challenge, HMC has a program designed to help you develop your creativity while experiencing another culture. Join us this summer to see the world, invest in your talent and get inspired. Budapest one of the world's most beautiful and most vibrant cultural hubs, is a city steeped in history and a favored destination of many travelers.
Each residency includes accommodation, working area, and access to all resources including WIFI, workshops, artist talk, gallery walk, field trip. In selected instances, the residency may also include some basic materials stipend.
Partnerships are vital to the way in which we work and we were delighted to be able to establish a partnership with a Print Studio and the BookArt Association.
Artists producing innovative work in book arts, electronic/digital media (video, sound, animation, etc.), installation art, social practice, photography, and printmaking are encouraged to apply.

We offer a spinet piano for musicians and professional easel for painters. Plein air painters and artists who draw have endless access to warm, outdoor beauty and can also work in the patio of our downstairs casita. Ceramic artists have access to our Kress kiln which can fire up to cone 6. All spaces also have private kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and full bathrooms.

Applications accepted on basis of availability and quality of work.
While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of program, the cost of the exhibitions and cover %40 of total cost, artists cover %60. We encourage the applicants to apply for a grant or scholarship.

Each year, Bead&Button magazine sponsors Bead Dreams, a juried competition of exceptional bead artistry from around the world. We display the accepted pieces at the Bead&Button Show and award ribbons in nine categories.
The outstanding piece among category winners receives a Best in Show trophy and a $1,000 gift certificate from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads.
Entries for the 2011 Bead Dreams competition are being accepted online only.
The online application for Bead Dreams will be available in December 2010.
Categories
(We reserve the right to reclassify the category of an entry according to the rules stated below.)
1. Handmade Buttons or Beads: A unified collection of 4 or more buttons or beads in any media including but not limited to ceramic, raku, resin, bone, etc. (This excludes lampworked, glass, polymer clay, metal clay, and beaded beads.)
2. Wirework: This category will include jewelry, accessories, handmade beads, jewelry-related objects and sculptural objects that are made predominately with wire or in which the primary techniques used are wirework techniques.
3. Lampwork / Glass: This category will include beads, buttons, components, jewelry, or jewelry-related objects that are 85% or more glass made by the applicant. Entries that use someone else's glass beads or components should be entered in the Finished Jewelry category.
4. Polymer Clay: This category will include beads, buttons, components, jewelry, or jewelry-related objects that are 85% or more polymer clay.
5. Beaded Objects or Accessories: This category will include a non-jewelry item or accessory, including, but not limited to, purses, shoes, sculptures, or wall hangings.
6. Seed Bead Jewelry: This category will include beaded beads, a piece, or an ensemble of jewelry, that is predominantly seed beads or bugle beads, including, but not limited to, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings.
7. Crystal Jewelry: This category will include a piece, or an ensemble of jewelry, that is predominantly machine-cut crystals, including, but not limited to, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. Jewelry made using fire-polished beads, or cathedral beads, should be entered in the Finished Jewelry category.
8. Finished Jewelry: This category will include a piece, or an ensemble of jewelry, that is made from materials such as, but not limited to, glass beads, crystals, semi-precious stones, wire, metal clay, seed beads (piece must be less than 50 percent seed beads), found objects, etc.
9. Metal Clay: This category will include beads, buttons, components, jewelry, or jewelry-related objects that are 85% or more metal clay.
Eligibility and Rules (truncated)
1. The competition is open to professional and amateur beaders from the U.S. and around the world. Bead&Button Show faculty and exhibitors may enter the competition. Kalmbach Publishing Co. employees and family members are not eligible.
2. All work entered in the competition must be original.
3. The entry fee of $30 covers up to two submissions.
4. You may not submit more than two entries in any one category. We reserve the right to reclassify the category of an entry.
5. Entries may be the work of a single person or a collaboration by several people.
6. Entries must have been produced between May 2010 and April 2011.
7. We reserve the right to exclude large pieces from the Bead Dreams exhibit at the Show, if space constraints and/or security concerns present an issue.
Judging and Awards
1. The editors of Bead&Button, BeadStyle, and Art Jewelry magazines will select the competition finalists.
2. Finalists will be on display at the Bead&Button Show, June 8-12, 2011, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
3. Before the start of the Bead&Button Show, a team of judges will select first, second, and third prize winners in each category. A panel of one judge from each category will choose the Best in Show winner and runner-up from the first-prize winners.
4. Artists retain ownership of their work and do not need to be present to win.
