Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden

The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden is currently seeking submissions for its Art Competition for 2014. Artists are invited to submit two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art, including installation and multi-media for the Museum’s multiple indoor galleries and outdoor garden.

Awards
The first place winner will be awarded a solo exhibition in the Hays Gallery. The other finalists will be awarded a group exhibition in the Guild Hall Gallery or Goelet Gallery or in the Japanese Stroll Garden.


Eligibility
Artists are eligible to submit original artworks that have been completed within the past three years and not previously exhibited at The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden. This Call is open to artists 18 years of age or older living and/or working in the States of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Hays Gallery, Goelet Gallery and Guild Hall – Paintings, works on papers, photography, mixedmedia, textiles, digital/video art and sculpture.

Japanese Stroll Garden – Artists may apply in any medium that is appropriate and sustainable in an outdoor environment for three months.


Entry Rules (truncated)
Artists must enter online.
  • A maximum of six (6) works/person may be submitted. Including title, medium, date of work and dimensions of each image.
  • For two-dimensional pieces, provide one (1) image per work.
  • For three-dimensional and installation pieces, artist may provide two images per work – a front and rear view or an overall view and a detail.
  • For video based media submissions, please provide in QuickTime or Windows Media Player format and should be no longer that a one-minute trailer or please provide a
    link to view through Vimeo, YouTube or personal website.


Application Fees
: $35.00 for 1 to 3 works; $50.00 for 4 to 6 works.
All entries are non-refundable.


Judging
The winners will be judged and selected by Mr. David Revere McFadden, Curator Emeritus Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York.

The Royal School of Needlewor: 21st Century Sampler Competition

21st Century Sampler Competition

Competition Brief -
To coincide with our “Samplers” exhibition in the Royal School of Needlework’s Studio we are running a Samplers Design Competition which is open to everyone!

Your challenge is to design a 21st Century Sampler. There are no limits as to what elements the sampler may or may not contain. Maximum size for the design is 45cm square, but it can be smaller than this and any shape.

The winner will get the opportunity to make up their sampler design for the RSN (with some help if required) so that it becomes part of the RSN’s Collection for years to come.


Terms & Conditions (truncated)

  1. Entrants can enter the competition as many times as they wish.
  2. Entrants must specify their age if under 18.
  3. All entries must be confirmed as your own original work.
  4. Entries must be designs only, not stitched pieces, and submitted digitally or by post on paper.
  5. If the sampler includes non-English script entrants must submit the English translation.
  6. Each design must be in two versions: one just of the design in colour and one indicating the techniques to be used. This can be achieved with an annotated copy of the design.
  7. The Judging Panel will include RSN Tutors, a Council member, staff and an external Judge (TBC).
  8. The Judging Panel’s decision is final and no correspondence or feedback will be entered in to following the announcement of the winner.
  9. Closing date for entries is Friday 20 June 2014.
  10. The winning design will be announced on 7 July 2014 at the Private View of RSN Certificate & Diploma Exhibition, and will be on display during the Exhibition, which takes place at the same time as the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, 8-13 July 2014.
  11. The winner of the sampler competition will agree a timetable and deadline with the RSN for delivery of the completed sampler.
  12. The top three winners will receive a small cash prize and a goody bag of embroidery items.

Eligibility & Media: Open to artists residing in California. All work must be original and executed by the hand of the artist in any of the following: clay, fiber/paper, glass, metal/jewelry, wood, mixed media. Work must have been completed within the past three years and may not have been shown previously at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. Works may not exceed 8 feet in height or weigh more than 50 pounds per transportable part.


Awards: Cash awards. A minimum of $1,500 will be awarded at the discretion of the juror with the additional possibility of a purchase award for SLOMA’s Permanent Collection.


Juror: Carol Sauvion. Carol is the creator and executive producer of Craft in America, the documentary series celebrating American craft and the artists who bring it to life. She is also the executive director of Craft in America, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and advance original handcrafted work through educational programs in all media.


Entry Fee: $25 entry fee for one entry, $30 for two entries, and $35 for three entries--(nonrefundable). Entry by CD only. CDs will not be returned.
