2024 Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show

LATE DEADLINE: May 15, 2024 (ONLINE)
DEADLINE: April 30, 2024 (ONLINE)

2024 Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show
National Building Museum

Washington DC
September 27 - 29, 2024

The 2024 Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show is an exhibition and sale of wearable contemporary American craft and design held annually in Washington DC at the National Building Museum. Unlike the juried Smithsonian Craft Show presented each Spring, Craft2Wear artists will be selected by members of the Smithsonian Women’s Committee (SWC), which produces the Craft2Wear show.

ELIGIBILITY
The Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show is committed to presenting thoughtful, original, and skilled wearable American craft and design. The Show is looking for artists who produce one-of-a-kind or limited edition items that have been conceived and perfected by the artist and created in the artist’s studio.  All work submitted to the Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show must be created and made in the United States.

The SWC is seeking a full range of wearables and accessories.

Wearable Art - Artwork that is predominately clothing made from any materials.
Wearable Accessories - Artwork which is predominately scarves, shawls, shoes, handbags, belts, socks, gloves and/or hats made from any materials.
Jewelry - Artwork, which is jewelry, tie tacks, and/or cufflinks made from any materials.

The Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show encourages artists to continue to grow and stretch the limits of their work.  We recognize that new technologies are increasingly helpful in this process, so it is acceptable to submit work in which CAD/CAM and other industrial techniques such as 3-D printing tools are used in the creative process.

The use of repurposed materials, including found objects and sustainable practices, should be included in the Artist’s Statement, if applicable.

Only U.S. residents who make their work in the U.S. are eligible to apply.

Application Fee: $25.00 + Late Fee: $10.00

Suspended in Green

Deadline: August 21, 2013 (EMAIL)

Suspended in Green

Studio Gabi Green
Munich, Germany
13.Mar.2014 - 17.Mar.2014

You are invited to participate in ‘Suspended in Green’. Now in its third and final year, the ‘Suspended’ exhibitions seek to explore the world of jewelry as it is NOW. This is a call out for jewelry that explores GREEN, in all its facets.

Green: it's just a color, yet it can also stand for so much more. It’s the color of money, of envy and of inexperience. It can stand for ethical products, the environment, symbolize fertility and nature. We talk about green shamrocks for luck, the green eyed monster, and green fingers. You can give someone the green light, be a greenhorn or be part of the green revolution.

‘Suspended in Green’ seeks out jewelry which explores these themes and ideas, through precious and non-precious materials. The result will be a juxtaposition of jewelers, themes and styles, all suspended from the gallery’s ceiling, which will invite the viewer to engage and interact with the work.

This year we are adding an additional element to the suspended show. Each selected artist will show one Gallery/Museum piece, which can be sold for any price -
as well as a series (of between 3 and 10) ‘Shop’ pieces, which must have a retail price of €40 each. These ‘Shop’ pieces MUST be directly related to the Gallery/Museum piece submitted.

Jury: David Clarke, Mah Rana

Submission Deadline: Submissions for initial selection must be received by August 21, 2013 electronically to suspendedingreen@gmail.com

Entry criteria:
  • Free choice of media/materials/size.
  • Any materials or scale accepted.
  • Work created in the past 1 year.
  • Only previously un-exhibited pieces can be submitted.
  • Must be able to be suspended (hung from a wire from the ceiling).

Application Requirements: (truncated)
  • Current resumé (CV), exhibitions, publication information.
  • Artist statement relating to the work submitted (250 words max.)
  • Up to 3 different gallery pieces can be submitted for consideration.
  • A example of your intended shop piece is also required.
Submission fee: €25 via paypal. Applications will not be accepted without payment. Upon acceptance: For selected artists an additional participation fee of €30 is required upon acceptance. The artist is responsible for the cost of initial delivery and the cost of the return of work. Sale Agreement: Please include a retail price in Euros, if your work is for sale. If sold a 50% sales commission will be deducted from the total price. Payments will be sent at the end of the show by paypal or bank transfer. Grand Canyon National Park: Artist in Residence

Deadline: April 1, 2012 (ONLINE)

Artist in Residence
Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon, AZ
South Rim: 2012 - 2013 Season
North Rim: 2013 Season

The parks have always welcomed artistic interpretations in support of land advocacy. Thomas Moran’s evocative and astounding paintings directly influenced the establishment of our first National Park (Yellowstone, 1872). This tradition continues today with more than 50 Artist-in-Residence programs throughout the National Park Service system.

The Artist-in-Residence Program offers professional artists the opportunity to spend three weeks on either the North or South Rim of Grand Canyon in housing provided by the National Park Service. The North Rim AiR program is seasonal, with six residencies during the spring, summer, and fall. The South Rim AiR program is year-round, providing twelve artist opportunities.

Grand Canyon National Park’s Artist-in-Residence Program seeks artists whose work is engaged in issues that are relevant to the Park Interpretative Themes, while challenging the visitor to become an active participant in preservation and environmental and cultural advocacy. We are pleased to host artists who communicate complex and contemporary issues through their chosen medium. Artists in all genres and in all disciplines, contemporary, traditional, or folk who have a genuine interest in contributing to our on-going national discussion on these issues will be of special interest to our program.

Artist opportunities: Contemporary, folk and traditional forms, including but not limited to:

Visual arts: painters, sculptors, printmakers, new media artists, muralists, designers, ceramicists, artisans, multi-discipline artists, fiber artists, mixed media artists, jewelers

Media: photographers, film makers, videographers

Writers: fiction and non-nonfiction writers, poets, playwrights

Performing arts: composers, musicians, dancers, performance artists, storytellers, dramatic artists

AiR artist proposals should be site-specific to Grand Canyon National Park, support the park’s Interpretative Themes, and will focus on such issues as ecology, the environment, park advocacy, conservation and other themes relevant to the parks.

Grand Canyon Artist-in-Residence program is using the Western Arts Federation (WESTAF) CaFE electronic application process this year.

In order for artists to access our application, you'll have to register as a WESTAF CaFE user.

An entry may consist of no more than two visuals: an overall shot and one detail (or alternate view). All entries must be mailed in the same packet. We do not accept e-mailed submissions.

PHOTOGRAPHY
As this is a gallery book, we can’t stress enough the importance of excellent quality images. We strongly recommend having professional photography done to best showcase your work.
