Hard Twist 9 Fibre Optics – Textiles in the Digital Age focuses on what happens when textiles engage with computer technology. For this ninth edition of the Gladstone’s hallmark textile art show, artists are asked to submit work that is formed by, illustrates, uses or otherwise relates to the combination of textiles and digital technology. Or vice versa!
There are only three criteria; work must:
● be textile or fibre related with a connection to this year’s theme
● explore or express ideas of the relationship between digital and analog modes
● be designed to hang on a wall or be lightly suspended from a ceiling – we are unable to accept free standing work due to the nature of the exhibition space
Hard Twist has become an important annual event within the Canadian textile art community as well as being a signature event for the Gladstone. Hard Twist 9 is pleased to partner with the 2014 World of Threads Festival. Successful will be notified by June 30th.

- All Complex Weavers members and students at accredited colleges and universities may submit entries.
- Non-member artists may join Complex Weavers (www.complex-weavers.org) by the submission date and submit entries.
- Students must provide proof of full-time current registration. Students are not required to be members of Complex Weavers.
- All entries will be evaluated by three jurors.
- Each artist may submit three works. All work must be original, not executed under supervision and completed after July, 2012.
- Weight of each work must not exceed 25 lbs (11.4 kg) including hanging and display hardware per work.
- Submissions must not have been previously published in any printed publication prior to submission.
- Accepted works must remain for the duration of the exhibit.
- The exhibit may travel to other venues and extend beyond May 30, 2014.

Textiles in a Tube 2 is a call to artists to expand their thinking in relation to textile materials, processes, concepts and results. You are invited to investigate what textiles are, or what they can be, and push forward to the “reinvention” or expansion of this multi-faceted medium. All entries must be shipped or delivered in a 3” x 36” mailing tube.
Textiles in a Tube 2 defines textiles as any type of material made from fibers or other extended linear materials such as thread or yarn including old and new materials, techniques, and technologies. The exhibition seeks to expand the definition of textiles. A statement for each piece is required stating the concept, technique, or material that supports its textile connection.
Eligibility: The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older. All work must be original and completed since January 1, 2008. Artwork may be 2 or 3 dimensional. Artwork and any required hanging devices must be shipped or delivered within a 3” x 36” mailing tube. All work must be ready for display.
Awards: $100 First Place, $50 Second Place, $25 Third Place. An exhibition catalogue will be produced.
JUROR: Kathleen Loomis spent her first career as a newspaper journalist and corporate writer/editor. Since 2000 she has worked fulltime as a fiber artist in Louisville, KY.
Entry fee: $25 for up to 3 entries.
Entry is by digital image only. Artists will be notified of acceptance on May 14, 2012 via email.
For each work entered, submit two digital images of the completed work, one full view (showing all edges of the work) and one detail view.
Entry forms are to be completed online, and printed, physical copies mailed with the entry disc.
Sales: All works must be for sale and Riverworks Gallery expects a 25% commission on all sold works.

A national juried exhibition at the Eastern Michigan University Gallery in Ypsilanti, Michigan, featuring contemporary fiber art in a broad range of forms. Works selected will include textiles rooted in traditional and contemporary approaches to fiber art. Open to artists utilizing all types of materials, sculpture, conceptual and installation art.
Eligibility
Submission is open to all artists 18 years and older, living in the United States. Current work (completed after December 2009) created in any fiber media and/or using fiber techniques is eligible for inclusion. Accepted artwork cannot have been previosly exhibited at any gallery on the Eastern Michigan University campus.
Entry Procedure
Artists may submit up to three works. Each work should be represented by clearly focused, well-lit high resolution digital images, one full view and one detail that accurately reflects the work.
Entry Fee
Member: $30 Non-member: $40

Awards
FAN will present first, second and third place awards.
Sales
FAN will promote the exhibit and encourage sales. FAN will retain a 40% commission on all exhibit sales. Exhibiting artists will receive a full-color exhibition catalog. Additional catalogs available at a nominal charge.

Art In City Hall issues a call to Philadelphia area artists for the next exhibition in historic City Hall.
Theme: Meta-Fiber, part of FiberPhiladelphia2012 is open to artists working in non-traditional ways and with non-traditional materials that utilize fiber and textile art making techniques such as weaving, sewing, applique`, quilting...Non traditional materials may include: recyclables, post-industrial, organic, or repurposed products.
Juror: Sarah Archer, Chief Curator, Philadelphia Art Alliance.
Eligibility & Selection of Artists: Open to emerging, self-taught and professional artists living or working in the Philadelphia region, including graduate students. Selections will be made by independent arts professionals.
Open to Philadelphia area artists working in all media. Exhibition display case dimensions are 84” H x 94” W x 30”D. There are 7 display cases.
Rules for Entry (truncated)
1. Deadline for submission: Received by Monday, February 20, 2012. You can submit up to four works in the form of digitals. No entry fee.
2. Please submit jpegs on a CD. Each image should be no larger than 1MB.
3. You may include up to 3 details of each work. Each artist must include a brief artist statement and resume.
4. Return the completed entry form with your digital submission and include a S.A.S.E ONLY if you wish to have your disc returned to you.

Eligibility:
This exhibit is open to all artists working with constructed and/or embellished yardage.
Three pieces may be entered per artist. Works exhibited in previous Convergence conference exhibits are not eligible.
Submitted work is limited to works made using fiber techniques (interlaced, felted, stitched, dyed, coiled, knotted, pulled, spun, etc.) and can be of any material. All work must be of exhibition quality, completed within the last two years (since January 2010), and not previously published in any national or international print publication prior to the entry deadline.
The size of the finished work must be a minimum of 18 inches (45.7 centimeters) in width and 3 yards (2.7 meters) in length and may not exceed 60 inches (1.5 meters) in width, 10 yards (9.1 meters) in length and 40 pounds (18.1 Kg) in weight.
For each entry, send an 8 inch x 8 inch (20.3 cm) square touch panel with edges finished neatly and ready for display. An identification tag needs to be attached to the back of the square. Entries submitted without a square will not be considered.
Work executed under classroom/educational guidance or supervision is not eligible.
Entry Fees: $25 HGA member, $40 non-HGA member, Student, no fee.
Sales: Work on exhibit will not be for sale.

This call-for-entries is open to all established or emerging artists, curators and cultural producers who are 21 years old or older. Proposals must show promise and strong conceptual grounding. Applications are reviewed once each year. To ensure applications are considered in a timely manner, please coordinate so your application arrives at SPACES by June 30, 2010 as posted on our website. This is not postmark deadlines.
Each application must include: a completed application form, 250-word artist/curatorial statement, one-page C.V., 10-15 still image work samples OR 2-3 two-minute segments of audio and/or video (or appropriate combination of images, video, audio and web-based work), work sample list, application fee and SASE.
Incomplete or inaccurately assembled applications will not be considered. If no SASE is included, notifications of acceptance or rejection will be sent via email. Please update your contact information if anything changes before you receive notification.
Materials should be submitted via mail.
