Jaffe Center for Book Arts: Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program
Deadline: June 15, 2015 {RECEIVE}
Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program
Jaffe Center for Book Arts
Florida Atlantic University Libraries
Boca Raton, Florida
Fall 2015
The Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program funds two working residencies for artists each academic year at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts, in the fall and spring semesters. Artists working in the book arts (and other media, too, as long as the creative project can be thought of as book arts related) are encouraged to apply for this prestigious and competitive award. We accept applications from artists from all over the world.
Poet and artist Helen M. Salzberg established the Salzberg AIR Program in 2011. Income from this endowed fund enables artists working in the book arts to come to the Jaffe Center on a semester basis to work and teach at the center. While here, the artist will produce a creative project using JCBA studios and also teach a workshop for FAU students and the general public and mentor FAU students as his or her schedule allows. The Salzberg AIR Program gives our students the opportunity to work alongside highly talented and creative book artists.
The next Salzberg Artist in Residence for which we will be accepting applications is Fall 2015. The residency period is for the Fall Semester, which runs mid August through early December. AIRs are not required to be at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts for the duration of the semester. However, we do require each resident to complete his or her creative project, teach the resident's workshop, and vacate the studios by the end of the semester. The Fall 2015 Salzberg AIR will receive a stipend of $3,000.

Badlands National Park Artist In Residence Program
Two Deadlines: (POSTMARK)
December 15, 2012 - Spring Residency
June 15, 2013 - Fall Residency
Artist In Residence Program
Badlands National Park
South Dakota
Spring Residency (March 15 and May 15)
Fall Residency (September 15 and November 15)
The Artist in Residence program at Badlands National Park was founded in 1996 and is open to all professional artists. Writers, composers and all visual and performing
artists are invited to interpret this wind-swept environment through their work. The program provides time for artists to get away from everyday responsibilities to focus on their surroundings and their medium.
The park offers an apartment located in small housing complex at park headquarters at no cost to the artist. The residency lasts for a minimum of four weeks and a
maximum of six weeks. Additionally, the park provides a reimbursement for expenses not to exceed $300. Reimbursible expenses include supplies for school programs,
travel, or meals. All expenses incurred above $300 are the responsibility of the artist.
Several artists have been successful in seeking donations of supplies and materials from businesses or museums in their home communities prior to coming to Badlands
for their residency, using the reimbursement as matching funds.
Each artist is asked to contribute to the park a mutually agreed upon piece of original work representative of their stay in Badlands National Park within one year of completion of their residency.
Because of Badlands’ strong commitment to education and outreach into our rural school districts, all artists are required to present two sessions in a local school to introduce students to an aspect of art and its interpretation of their Badlands home.
We consider all forms of arts except those that manipulate or disturb the park’s environment or are disrespectful to any race or gender. Selections are made without regard to race, religion, marital status, sex, age, or national origin. The facilities for this program are not wheelchair accessible.
All applicants must submit: (truncated)
1. A resume and summary of creative works.
2. A statement of what they hope to gain from a residency at Badlands National Park and what they hope to incorporate into their classroom presentations.
3. Up to three choices of beginning and ending dates for their residency. Residencies are a minimum of four weeks, a maximum of six weeks, and must fall within the availability dates.

Mary Schoeser, specialist author in textiles, is working on an exciting project commissioned by Thames & Hudson, London. Entitled The Art of Textiles, this is to be a major work comprising over 1,000 images and celebrating the breadth and depth of the field today.
Mary is keen to source stunning images of the work of creative individuals. Of equal interest are pieces that have been collected as outstanding inspirational examples, including ethnographic and historical materials, since one aspect of the text deals with the impact of the ‘eye of the beholder’. In particular, detailed images are sought in order to illustrate the complexity and extraordinary variety of manipulations, surface treatments, materials, and structures that textiles present. In addition, Mary is seeking personal statements elucidating why or how each piece is of personal significance.
Submissions for consideration may be in digital or slide/transparency format. Digital images must be supplied as TIFF files, RGB calibrated, on discs. Please supply a reference print for colour balance as well as the following details: name, image title, date, media and technique, photo credit, and permission to publish. If the item is ethnographic or historical please indicate its origins. Selected images will not attract a reproduction fee, but will be acknowledged. There will be a resource list in the end-matter; please indicate whether or not you would like a contact email address to be included under the contributors list.
This offer is available to members of the Textile Society Collectors Group only. If you are interested please submit to Submission should be posted to schoeser@aol.com by June 15th.

Residency Program
LUX Center for the Arts
Lincoln, Nebraska
LUX Center for the Arts offers three-month to two-year residencies to artists at any stages in their career in ceramics, printmaking, painting, fibers and metals. Resident artists receive studio space, exhibition opportunities and teaching experience, while they work to launch their careers as professional artists.
Financial Support
While there is no monthly stipend offered through our residency program, residents have the opportunity to teach community adult and children’s classes for pay. In addition, residents have the opportunity to contract with Doane College-Lincoln to teach classes they offer at the LUX Center in printmaking, ceramics, painting and metal arts. Artists-in-residence are responsible for their own personal living expenses, (including apartment rental and associated expenses), for some supplies and materials related to the cost of producing artwork unique to the artist, and shipping expenses. These are outlined in detail in the contract.
Residency Requirements (truncated)
Artists are required to assist with opening receptions and special events, prepare for and teach community classes, perform studio management and maintenance, and other tasks as requested, for up to ten hours per
week.
Residents are required to teach one class of kid’s art week per session offered at the LUX Center unpaid.
Residents are urged to teach children’s and adult classes for pay.
Artists are expected to develop a body of work by maintaining consistent studio hours, give at least one informal public slide presentation about their work, and leave a piece of work made during the residency as a donation to the LUX Center. The donation will be selected by the artist and the Executive Director and/or Exhibition Director.
Selection Process
Residents are selected by a panel consisting of the Executive Director, Education Director, Exhibition Director, and other invited jurors. Residency periods are arranged by staff according to position openings. The typical residency term is one year, but may range from three months to two years.
Application fee: $15 (non-refundable)
