Jerome Fiber Artist Project Grants

Deadline: October 18, 2013 (RECEIVE)

Jerome Fiber Artist Project Grants
Textile Center

Minneapolis, MN
2013-14

In 2013-14, the sixth round of Jerome Fiber Artist Project Grants will be awarded through the Textile Center. This program is designed to expand opportunities for emerging fiber artists in Minnesota, supporting the artists as they undertake specific artistic projects. Four $4500 grants will be awarded to support a wide range of project activities – from purchasing equipment, devoting time to studio work, to travel and study with established artists.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Project Grant, you must
• be an artist committed to the field of fiber art
• have completed all formal academic training by the start of the grant period (December 2013), and are not enrolled either part- or full-time in a degree granting institution
• not be employed as a fiber art or art instructor at the college level during the grant period
• be a resident of Minnesota for at least 6 months prior to the application deadline
• be in an emerging or developing stage in your artistic development
Artists who have previously received a Jerome Project Grant cannot apply again until three years after the date of their award.

Defining Fiber Art
Work should include the construction or manipulation of fibers and textiles using textile techniques such as weaving, dyeing, surface design, knitting, quilting, needle work, beading, lace making, felting, hooking, sewing, spinning, basketry etc. Mixed media work is acceptable if the materials or techniques used are primarily textile related.

Defining Emerging
Textile Center identifies emerging fiber artists as artists who are in a formative career stage. While the definition of emerging remains flexible to accommodate individual circumstances, Textile Center uses several broad indicators to determine eligibility in the Fiber Artists Project Grant Program. These indicators include:
• Artist is committed to the field of fiber art.
• Artist is in a developing stage. The term emerging refers to artistic development, professional accomplishment and ecognition, not to stylistic evolution within an artist's
work.
• Artist has limited exhibition exposure/experience (include exhibitions, reviews, commissions, performances, residencies, publications and productions.)
• Artist is the recipient of limited previous grants and awards.
• Artist is under recognized and has not received acknowledgment as an established creator from fellow artists and other arts professionals.

Leeway Foundation: Art and Change Grant

Deadline: August 1, 2013 (RECEIVE) or (HAND DELIVERY)

Art and Change Grant

Leeway Foundation
Philadelphia, PA

Art for social change is art with a vision and impacts people in many ways. It can: raise consciousness; alter how we think about ourselves, our society, or our culture; create a vision of a more just world; be a tool or strategy for organizing and movement-building; reclaim traditional cultural practices as a form of resistance or community building; challenge racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, ableism or other forms of oppression; and question mainstream culture and beliefs.

With the ideals of social change in mind, we created these programs to challenge the norms of traditional grantmaking. We seek to recognize women and trans artists whose work is often ignored, silenced, and marginalized because of what they create or who they are - such as people of color; immigrants; gay, lesbian, and bisexual people; poor and working-class people; and people who take risks with art form and content to share their social change vision.

The Art and Change Grant provides project-based grants of up to $2,500 to women and trans artists in the Delaware Valley region to fund art for social change projects.

We encourage you to apply if you are a woman or trans artist who:

•Has an art for social change project or opportunity that impacts a larger group, audience, or community.
•Has financial need and limited or no access to other financial resources.
•Has a project supported by or in collaboration with a Change Partner (a person, organization, or business that is a part of the project in some way).
•Lives in the Delaware Valley area: Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County.

Embroiderers' Guild Scholarship 2013

Deadline: February 4, 2013 (RECEIVE)

Guild Scholarship 2013
Embroiderers' Guild

Walton on Thames, Surrey

Two Embroiderers’ Guild Scholarships of £1000 each are awarded annually to students to develop the practice of embroidery. One Scholarship is for students in the age category of 18 to 30 years inclusive, and one Scholarship is for students over 30 years of age.

All applicants should have studied the practice of embroidery or stitched textiles through formal or informal learning. The Scholarships are to support students to undertake projects which further their own practice. Working with the Embroiderers’ Guild during the Scholarship year provides each Scholar with opportunities to be introduced to the Guild’s network of Members, Branches and practising professionals.

The aim of the Scholarships is to support embroiderers to implement project proposals which further their own embroidery practice. Criteria for selection are consistent within both age categories.

Criteria for selection
• The Scholarships are for embroiderers who have studied the practice of embroidery or stitched textiles through formal or informal learning.
• Selection will be based equally on an applicants ability as an embroiderer (6 images on a CD) and the quality of the Scholarship project proposal.
• The specific Scholarship use must be given
• Selection will be based on how the applicant intends to use the Scholarship, and it must therefore be shown how the project proposal will further the applicant's own embroidery practice.
• The project proposal must be in line with the aim of the Scholarship. Ineligible proposals will make the application void.
• The application must include a timetable, action plan and a breakdown of costs for the Scholarship project proposal.
