The Artist-in-Residence Program at Acadia National Park offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available.

In return, participating artists are asked to donate to the park collection a piece of work representative of their style and their stay. These creative works will be displayed on a rotating schedule or shared with the public through other appropriate means during the upcoming seasons. Artists are also asked to participate in one public program per week of their residency such as demonstrations, talks, exploratory hikes, or performances. In the fall, artists will be working with fifth and sixth grade students. Programs can be tailored to your medium, interests, and experiences, and only consume a few hours of your stay.

Artists are housed in a fully furnished, one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen outfitted with pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. The park supplies linens and bedding. There is a laundry facility in the apartment complex. Occupants supply personal items such as clocks and audiovisual equipment. Wheelchair-accessible housing is available.

Applications for the Artist-in-Residence program are available through the SERC Institute.

CRAFTS EXPO - ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show 2013
The theme of the Great Canberra Scarf Competition for 2013 is “The Centenary of Canberra”.


The Great Canberra Scarf Competition provides the opportunity for craft enthusiasts to use their creativity and imagination to make a scarf reflecting the theme of ‘The Centenary of Canberra’.

Eligibility: Anyone can enter.

Each entry must comply with the following criteria:
 Must be a textile scarf made by any method from natural fibres (at least 50% alpaca fibre);
 The scarf must be based on the theme;
 The scarf must be at least 1.5m long and be able to be worn around the head, neck or shoulders;
 Each entry must include a statement of no more than 70 words as to what inspired the design of your scarf;
 Each entry must be accompanied by labels of the textiles used or samples of the textiles used.


The winners of the Great Canberra Scarf Competition will be announced at the Canberra Show at the opening of the Craft Expo on the Friday morning and will be available for viewing throughout the Show weekend.

Prizes include:
• 1St Prize - $300 Gift Voucher and Certificate
• 2nd Prize - $100 Gift Voucher and Certificate
• Highly Commended entries - a Certificate


CRAFT SECTION CONDITIONS OF ENTRY (truncated)

• IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR ANY EXHIBITOR TO BE A MEMBER OF ANY GUILD OR ASSOCIATION TO ENTER THE CRAFT EXPO.
• Exhibits that have been judged at a previous ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show will not be accepted for competition. ALL EXHIBITS MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AFTER 26 FEBRUARY 2012
• No exhibit to be entered in more than one class. Entries may not be transferred from one entrant to another.
• All exhibits are to be totally worked by the exhibitor.
• EXHIBITS THAT HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY OR FULLY COMPLETED IN CLASS/SEMINAR ETC. MUST HAVE ACKNOWLEDGMENT ATTACHED.

ENTRIES CLOSE:
• Entries close on 14 December 2012
• Late Entries will be accepted up to 4.30pm 7 January 2013 and will incur a $20 late entry fee.

Theme: Paper sculptures have been made since the advent of paper, utilizing techniques from origami to papier-mâché. In the modern day - where there is an oversaturation of paper products, and simultaneously a technological push towards paperless media - artists work to innovate with the paper material and the book form.

Beyond the Fold examines artists who utilize paper in a way that exceeds the utilitarian, two-dimensional expectations of the material.

Eligibility: This juried exhibition is open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student).

Media/Genre: Open to works of all genres and media.

A $20 submission fee allows for the submission of up to 3 pieces of work. Artists will receive notification of the list of selected pieces through email on Jan. 14.

A program that provides concentrated work time for artists to explore new ideas in one of Pyramid Atlantic's studio disciplines.

Pyramid Atlantic is proud to offer a two month residency opportunity for artists working in the field of printmaking, papermaking, book arts, or digital media. Artists of all career stages are encouraged to apply for this residency. Two artists per session are selected by Pyramid Atlantic’s artistic staff. Resident artists work in a productive community atmosphere alongside other artists, and are expected to be in the studio at least 15-20 hours per week. Technical assistance is not included in the residency, but is available at an additional cost.

Keyholder Resident Artists receive:

•A $200 artist’s stipend
•24-hour studio access
•Storage space
•Inclusion in Pyramid Atlantic’s permanent collection
•Promotion through Pyramid’s e-newsletter, blog and website


Keyholder Resident Artists are expected to:

•Care for equipment and tools
•Provide their own consumable supplies (paper, ink, newsprint, and the like)
•Give one artist’s talk or public demonstration
•Share the studio with other artists; working around workshops and outreach
