Working in collaboration with Craftspace, Outsider Craft combines Outside In's fourth triennial open art exhibition and Craftspace's touring exhibitions programme, which reflects developments in craft. The exhibition will showcase UK creativity by artists facing barriers to the art world for reasons including health, disability or social circumstance, and who have submitted their work through the Outside In website. The works selected through this open call out will be displayed alongside pieces by historically renowned and invited contemporary outsider and self-taught artists. This major exhibition will launch at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, the home of Outside In, from 12 March - 12 June 2016, and will be followed by a national tour.

Twenty artists will be chosen by a selection panel which will include representatives from Outside In, Craftspace, an Outside In Award Winner, a craft maker, a representative from the Outsider Art sector and Laura Hamilton, co-curator of Outsider Craft.

Submissions for the open call out are invited from UK based artists whose work is three or two dimensional and centres around craft processes. The term ‘craft’ covers: ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery, leather, mechanical objects, metalwork, mixed media, textiles and forms of making linked to folk traditions. Materials used can include fabric, metal, clay, wood, paper, mixed media, found and recycled materials. Craft can be used to describe work that focus on materials, processes and the handmade; or perhaps work that unites technical skill and imagination resulting in a physical object. We would welcome submissions from anyone who considers their work to be a form of craft.

Please note that paintings, drawings, photographs and prints are not eligible for submission.


How to submit work:

Submitting work is free. To enter, applicants must create a profile on an online gallery via the Outside In website. Each artist is able to submit up to three works for selection and as the works will be looked at online, the quality of the photograph uploaded is very important. Information required includes images, titles of works, dimensions and a description of each piece.


Award

From the works selected to appear in the exhibition, a judge will choose one overall Award Winner to receive a solo show at Pallant House Gallery at a later date.

The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting local, national and international artists who utilize photography and printmaking in intriguing ways, both in content and process. Artists who use printmaking and/or photography as critical components of their work, or whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices, are encouraged to enter.

Eligibility
Any artist using photography and/or printmaking as critical components in their work can enter. Work submitted must have been completed in the last three years. Submitted works cannot have been exhibited within 50 miles of Philadelphia or in any prior exhibition at The Print Center. Up to five images may be submitted and only one submission per person is allowed.

Awards & Prizes
Three solo exhibitions at The Print Center to be held May-August 2016; inclusion in online exhibition of portfolios; Philadelphia Museum of Art Collection Award; and over $2000 in other purchase and material prizes.

The Rotating History Project is taking proposals for a forthcoming exhibition entitled “River of Change: An Exploration of the James River through Art.” The exhibited is planned to open in January of 2017, at the Jamestown Settlement Museum, located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Sitting adjacent to the James River—the site of the country’s first permanent English settlement—the Jamestown Settlement Museum’s mission is to foster an awareness and understanding of the early history, settlement, and development of the United States through the convergence of American Indian, European, and African cultures.

Artists working in a broad range of mediums are being sought for the Museum’s James River exhibition. Curators are looking to represent the following themes related to the James River, which when collectively displayed will create a view of the James from a variety of angles and points in time:

◦Powhatan Indians and earliest populations’ relationship to the James River (Paleo Indians/the Powhatan Confederacy/today’s Virginia Indians)
◦The relationship of the first English settlers and Europeans to the James River
◦Africans and African Americans in relationship to the James River (from the earliest inhabitants to modern day)
◦Slavery/Servitude/Class on the River
◦Wildlife of the tributary, including flora and fauna
◦Trade, labor and commerce as it relates to the River and its people through history and up through today.
◦Environmental issues through the centuries/Development and preservation efforts

A predetermined stipend to help offset costs of materials and travel will be provided. All mediums are welcomed, including 2D and 3D, film, music, installation, performances, lectures and all other forms of writing/dialogue, such as oral histories.

This exhibition is part of a larger group of happenings curated by the Rotating History Project. Through various artistic mediums, the Rotating History Project aims to draw attention to the threads running through our history, culture and environment.

“The $100 Show,” a juried exhibition of any medium priced at $100 (or less) for the holiday season. “The $100 Show” runs from November 11, 2011, through January 6, 2012, and each artist may submit up to three original works.


Exhibition Theme:

“The $100 Show” features any medium of artwork which would make great gifts for the holidays. For this show, the work may be purchased immediately and taken home.


Submission Guidelines: (truncated)

- No more than 3 Pieces of work to be juried.

- Framed 2D artwork must be ready for hanging (no saw tooth hangers). Wire should be attached.

- Unframed “gallery wrapped” canvases are acceptable.

- Sculpture should be no larger than 6 feet. Artists may need to provide their own pedestals.

- All artwork for consideration MUST be submitted via JPEG/JPG image.
