Whether demonstrating a new invention, sharing DIY techniques, or simply connecting with like-minded individuals, exhibiting at Maker Faire Bay Area can elevate visibility, foster connections, and contribute to the vibrant culture of creativity and exploration that defines the maker movement. We encourage all makers from startups and science clubs to inventors and artists to apply. We particularly love exhibits that are interactive and highlight the process of making.

The SIM Residency is an international residency located in Reykjavík and run by SÍM, The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists. The residency was formed in 2002 and started with an apartment and studio for one artist in the SÍM – house at Hafnarstræti in the city center. Since then the residency has gradually grown and we now welcome around twelve artists every month.
In June 2006 the SIM- Residency added nine studio and living spaces at Seljavegur 32, a building that also includes studios for about fifty SÍM members. In 2007 another three studios were added at Korpúlfsstaðir, an old dairy farm located on the outskirts of Reykjavík. Korpúlfsstaðir also houses studios for about forty SÍM members, as well as an art school, workshop- and exhibition space.
The original studio and apartment at Hafnarstræti has now been turned into a three guestroom apartment, which is rented out to local and international artists on a short-term basis.
The main objective of the SIM Residency is to function as a direct link between visual artists, both nationally and internationally by bringing them together from different parts of the world to work in close company with each other. To be a venue for international artists to take part in the Icelandic art scene, thereby creating a broader context within which local and international artists can experience their own work. The SIM Residency seeks to promote an environment of reflection, study and play by providing artists with a working environment that supports the artistic process.
The SIM Residency welcomes visual artists of all media to Reykjavík for residencies lasting one to three months. The residency includes studio spaces for a total of thirteen artists each month. The artists get a living space and a studio right next to each other, with shared kitchen facilities and bathrooms. The Seljavegur residency has a big communal room that is good for working on bigger things. The application deadlines are twice a year, but we do encourage people who are interested in coming to SIM for a residency to apply using the short notice application see here or contact us about availability. The Korpúlfsstaðir Residency program is only run in the summer time for three months, between June and September.

Duration of residencies
Residencies last for one to three whole months. Longer residencies are possible by arrangement.
Expenses paid by artists
The artist pays a residency fee for the stay at SÍM as well as his own travel expenses and all other personal living expenses during the residency.
Selection procedure
A panel of professional SÍM artists review the applications shortly after the deadline however there is no deadline for short notice applications and artists can apply through that process in between the two deadlines per year. Applicants are notified of the committee´s decisions within 4-6 weeks of the deadline after the two deadlines and applicants for short notice application are notified within few weeks.

- All rugs must have a permanent identification label on the back.
- Rugs must be fashioned primarily by creating loops on a foundation backing and must be primarily of wool strips - except for the Mixed Media category.
- Rugs that are primarily hooked and incorporate embellishments (buttons, ribbons, trim, yarn, other fabrics, etc.) are welcome.
- Pieces primarily created by using other techniques and materials are welcomed to be registered in the "Mixed Media" category – please refer to the specifications above.
- Rugs must be complete with binding or "appropriate finish".
- "Latch-hook" and "locker-hook" rugs are not candidates for this exhibit.

Aim of the competition
“Associazione per il Museo della Seta di Como” is promoting the 5th European Competition for a bobbin lace - 2013. The decorative theme is suggested by a printing block, whose photo and the relative conditions can be downloaded from the web site www.museosetacomo.com The aim of such competition is to preserve traditions, materials and techniques connected with silk bobbin lace.
Participants
The competition is addressed to countries from the EU and Switzerland, in particular: schools, groups, associations, educational institutions, museums, craftsmen, artists, designers, etc.
The competition is made up of 2 sections:
· Traditional: the continuity in the traditional designs, colours and techniques of the participant’s own area.
· Modern: the interpretation of designs and traditional techniques by using various materials, coloured yarns and so on. Three-dimensional works are also accepted.
Entries
1. All entries to the competition shall be delivered by 31th July 2013. It is fundamental to send the receipt of fee settlement together with the Application Form.
2. The participation fee is € 30.00
Delivery and work-eligibility (truncated)
Only one work shall be submitted by each Participant.
1. The work shall be original and hand made by using the bobbin lace technique mainly. Silk shall be used as chief material but, in addition to it, other materials can be chosen by the Participant (excluding fragile materials such as glass, crystal, etc.).
2. All works, including three-dimensional ones, shall not exceed the maximum dimensions of 25x25x25 cm.
3. All works shall be examined in advance by the Museum staff in order to assess their eligibility in the competition. The works deemed ineligible shall not be displayed and, then, returned to the Participant with clear explanation.
Awards and prize-giving
3 prizes are awarded for each section of the competition.
1st Prize “traditional” section € 500,00

There are 3 CATEGORIES in the competition:
1 – handmade doll with quilt and doll bed
2 – traditional doll quilt with doll bed
3 – art doll quilt with doll bed
Entry Requirements
Size: All quilts must be made to fit a doll's bed. Minimum bed size is 4" x 6" x 3.5" (WxLxH) Maximum size is 17" x 25" x 15" (WxLxH) Fabrics: Please use the fabrics of your choice. Your entry must include the bed for display.
Technique: Quilts may be hand or machine stitched. We will be judging the quilt rather than the bed therefore doll beds may be purchased, customised or purpose built.
From each CATEGORY, first place, second place, third place and one runner up will be selected AS FINALISTS.
This makes a total of 12 FINALISTS, whose entries will be exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TEXAS in fall, 2011.
Prizes:
1st prize: A 3 year subscription to Selvedge Magazine worth $275 and an announcement in the November/December 2011 issue of Selvedge. The winning entrant will be exhibited and highlighted at the exhibition at the 2011 International Quilt Festival in Houston. The winner will also receive a $50 gift certificate from Equilter.com.
2nd Prize: A 2 year subscription to Selvedge Magazine worth $205, entry exhibited at the 2011 International Quilt Festival in Houston, a $25 gift certificate from Equilter.com.
3rd Prize: A 1 year subscription to Selvedge Magazine worth $115, entry exhibited at the 2011 International Quilt Festival in Houston, a $25 gift certificate Equilter.com.

How to enter:
You may enter up to ten doll quilts.
To enter the competition you will enter information about yourself, your quilt and you will upload 3 images.
Entrants under 18 should receive permission from their parent or guardian to enter as the twelve finalists will have to cover the cost of shipping their entry to the festival (see terms and conditions). Images must be true likeness with no digital enhancement. We reserve the right to eliminate entries if in the judgement of the judges the entry does not match the submitted image.
Those selected will be asked to provide further images, a short description of the work and a 100 word biography about the maker.
Then finalists can either be shipped to Texas or London depending on where the creator is based. Competition winners will be chosen at the Festival or before and winners will be notified by email immediately.

Needlework tutors are invited to take part in a fund-raising event to raise money for the Embroiderers' Guild Museum Collection. All tutors who wish to support the Embroiderers` Guild are invited to apply to become part of a selected group of 100 tutors who will each run a one day workshop during March 2012. All proceeds from each workshop will go to the Guild. The target is to raise at least £50,000.
All the monies raised will enable the collection to be displayed on the website, thus attracting members and viewers worldwide which of course raises ongoing funds.
- Each workshop should consist of 10 students
- Each student will pay a tuition fee of £50, all of which will go to the Guild
