MEXICAN TEXTILES INSTRUCTIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY
This is a unique production residency that includes 3 weeks of master instruction (classes of 9 hours per week) in creating Mexican textiles. Residents learn how to weave using the traditional back-strap loom, how to assemble it, and basic weaving techniques; or they learn Mexican embroidery techniques, for which we offer instruction in the following: cross stitching, chain stitching, shading, and pepenado hilván. Each technique is offered separately as a 3-week program. Artists wishing to do both weaving and embroidery courses may apply for two consecutive residencies totaling 6 weeks.
RESIDENCY GUIDELINES
⦁ Selection decisions are based on artistic work and proposed project. Candidates at all stages of their careers (emerging and established) must demonstrate a clear sense of potential.
⦁ Our pool of applicants and residents is diverse in all aspects.
⦁ Our residency programs are competitive opportunities for artists and researchers to pursue their own work, free of pressure (especially work that in their particular circumstances would normally be difficult to produce).
⦁ Selection priority is given to projects that explore a responsible connection between the applicant’s artistic practice and the cultural context of Mexico, of Puebla, or of Oaxaca. The connection can be as broad as an artistic technique or as specific as a local theme.
⦁ The creation of community with fellow residents and staff during the residency period is important.
OUR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMS
Our Artist-in-Residence Programs offer competitive professional opportunities for emerging and mid-career, national and international artists, designers, curators, art historians, art educators, journalists, writers, and cultural researchers age 25 and over. Our programs are based on a non-exploitative model promoting social consciousness. Residents are strongly encouraged to explore various ways of cultural exchange as part of their artistic and/or research goals and to actively engage in critical discussions as part of their residency experience. Understanding Mexico’s context, and specifically Puebla and Oaxaca’s cultural complexity, is key for a successful cultural exchange. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and disciplines who are interested in creating work or inspired by art, elements, techniques or processes specific to Mexico and/or unique to Puebla or Oaxaca.

Arquetopia and Arquetopia Oaxaca have always been spaces exclusively for productive art professionals, writers, and researchers and include structured programs; a network of collaborative workspaces, institutions, and studios; and project support.

Exhibition Theme: “Error” {mistake}.
The purpose of the “7th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2015” is to incite artists to create conceptual works which correspond to the offered theme. Errors {mistakes} plays important role not only in our life, but also in creative process. Many scientific discoveries have been made by mistake, by error. The same are in art. We are looking for artist’s books made with errors, artist’s books with typographical, printing or binding errors. Artist’s books created about “errors” in our life and art, errors in science and engineering, errors in languages or errors on the road, and etc.
Regulations for Participants: (truncated)
1. We invite all artists to participate.
2. Each artist may submit a maximum of 3 artist’s books made on theme “Error” {mistake}.
3. Works and the entry forms must be sent till the 15th of November 2014.
4. No size or weight limit.
5. Applicant shall cover all the necessary expenses for subscription, such as shipping cost to the Triennial, insurance, etc.
6. The “7th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2015 is anniversary Triennial – 7 is Magical Number. So we decided that the 7th Artist’s Book Triennial will be composed:
a) by invited artists (who participated many time in the Triennials); and
b) artists selected by the International Jury.
7. We will show all received artist’s books in our website for “People’s Voice”. Everybody can vote for your favourite book.
8. The organisers will publish the Catalogue.
9. There is No Entry Fee.
Main Prize: The personal artist’s books exhibition in Vilnius in 2018 together with the “8th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2018”.

Penland's resident artists are full-time artists who spend three years living and working in Penland's school community. The program is designed for artists who are at some pivotal moment in their career—the residency is an opportunity for them to test ideas and make choices that will have a lasting effect on their work and their lives. Resident artists may use the time to develop their studio practice, to work out the practicalities of making a living, to push technical and conceptual boundaries, or to explore entirely new directions in their work.
The primary expectation of resident artists is that they engage intently with their work. They are also expected to have an open door policy, welcoming students, instructors, and the public to their studios, both informally and formally through the resident open house that is part of each Penland session. They are welcome to visit workshops, attend slide lectures, and to participate in all aspects of the life of the school.
Resident artists are selected through a competitive process that draws applications from all over the country. Selection is based on the quality of the work and on clearly articulated goals. At the end of their three years, some Penland resident artists move onto other residencies or decide to pursue teaching careers, but the great majority of them set up independent studios and continue to pursue the work they started at Penland.
Qualifications
The program welcomes self-motivated, focused individuals working in traditional and nontraditional studio crafts. The primary basis for selection is the strength and quality of the applicants' work. Residents must also have a clear objective for the time of their residency and be willing to live and work as part of a close-knit community.
Costs
The current base rental rate for Penland resident artists is $175 per month for unfurnished housing and studio space. With considerable seasonal variation, utilities costs per resident for studio and housing currently average $150-$200 per month.
Selection
Candidates are recommended to the school's director by a selection committee which includes one current and one past resident and one of Penland's craftsperson board members. The committee is looking for strong work by individuals who will enhance the program, especially those who are open to new ideas and are involved in some kind of transition in their artistic career.
All media taught at Penland are considered appropriate for the resident program. With the exception of the glass studio, resident studios are not media specific. However, the particular qualities of the available studios and the balance of media represented by the artists already in the program usually limits each year's openings to a certain range of media.
Openings
We do not anticipate any openings in the Penland School Resident Artist Program in 2015. Our next selection will be for residencies that begin September 15, 2016 and end August 15, 2019. The available studios include spaces appropriate for books, clay, drawing, glass, iron, letterpress, metals, painting, paper, photography, printmaking, textiles, or wood.

Applicants are encouraged to apply even if the priority deadlines are passed, in the event that the dates requested and/or funding may still be available.
Residency fees are a flat rate of $290 per week or $1150 per month and include accommodation and access to all CAC Woodside facilities. If you are interested in using the studios without accommodation please contact us for reduced rates. All returning artists receive a 15% discount on residencies.
CAC Woodside provides awards to approximately 95% of Residents. Please apply by priority deadlines for consideration. Award amounts range from $50/wk to full cost. To apply for an award you must provide a short statement of proposed residency project and check the "apply for award" box. Awards will be given based on the strength of the proposal and demonstrated artistic ability.

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to about thirty emerging artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their working lives. The deadline for the nation-wide Rome Prize competition is November 1, 2013.
Fellows are chosen from the following disciplines:

◾Design
◾Historic Preservation and Conservation
◾Landscape Architecture
◾Literature (awarded only by nomination through the American Academy of Arts and Letters)
◾Music Composition
◾Visual Arts
◾Ancient Studies
◾Medieval Studies
◾Renaissance and Early Modern Studies
◾Modern Italian Studies
Rome Prize recipients are generally invited to Rome for eleven months (some design fellowships are six months and some pre-doctoral art history fellowships are two years).
The Rome Prize consists of room and board, a stipend and separate work space, and privileged access to Rome.
Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Affiliated Fellows, Residents and Visiting Artists and Visiting Scholars.
Eleven-month fellowships generally begin at the Academy in early-September and end at the beginning of August. Winners of six-month fellowships may choose to begin in early-September and end in early-March or begin in early-February and end in early-August.
Eligibility
-Undergraduate students are not eligible for Rome Prize fellowships.
-Previous winners of the Rome Prize are not eligible to re-apply.

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to about thirty emerging artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their working lives. The deadline for the nation-wide Rome Prize competition is November 1, 2013.
Fellows are chosen from the following disciplines:

◾Literature (awarded only by nomination through the American Academy of Arts and Letters)

Rome Prize recipients are generally invited to Rome for eleven months (some design fellowships are six months and some pre-doctoral art history fellowships are two years).
The Rome Prize consists of room and board, a stipend and separate work space, and privileged access to Rome.
Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Affiliated Fellows, Residents and Visiting Artists and Visiting Scholars.
Eleven-month fellowships generally begin at the Academy in early-September and end at the beginning of August. Winners of six-month fellowships may choose to begin in early-September and end in early-March or begin in early-February and end in early-August.
Eligibility
-Undergraduate students are not eligible for Rome Prize fellowships.
-Previous winners of the Rome Prize are not eligible to re-apply.

Each year WSW awards two grants for emerging artists to create a new artist’s book and teach young people through our studio-based Art-in-Education (AIE) program, Hands-on-Art. Generally AIE/Book Arts residents teach 1-2 days per week for 3-4 weeks in the studios, and also visit the students in their home school in shorter sessions before and after the series held at WSW.
For these residencies, WSW is especially interested in artists who come from different regions of the country and/or diverse cultural backgrounds. Each award includes a $400 per week stipend for up to ten weeks, and a $750 materials budget, housing, travel costs up to $250 within the Continental US, and unlimited studio access.
Generally, the first month of the residency is devoted to the production of a limited edition artist’s book. WSW staff will provide training when necessary, technical advice, and assistance with editioning. During the second half of the residency, the artist works with young people in the WSW studios. Studio space and equipment is reserved for AIE students during program hours. Artists may continue to work on their residency projects after students’ studio hours.
The residencies take place in October-December with high school students, and February-May with elementary school students. This grant is a two-step juried process. Artists interested in this opportunity submit materials to WSW, then WSW applies to other funders.

WSW technical assistance includes training on new equipment, techniques and materials, and assistance with production.
The grant includes a stipend of $350/week, materials up to $750, access to all studios, travel costs up to $250 within the Continental US, and housing. Residency occurs 6-18 months after application. Projects are chosen by a jury of outside artists and curators. We encourage an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50. WSW has developed a series of archive and exhibition opportunities for the books. The contract stipulates 10% of the edition (or ten books) for WSW archives, exhibition, and display copies; 10% of the edition for the artist; and 80% of the edition for general marketing.
The artist has the option of collaborating with WSW on the marketing of the books for a 50% commission fee. WSW artists’ books are held in over 300 collections world-wide, with repositories of all the artists’ books published by WSW held at: Indiana University (Bloomington), Rochester Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Delaware, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Vassar College, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Yale University.

The Wearable Art Awards is not a fashion show, it is a multi-media performance where the human body becomes a living, breathing, moving canvas. We are looking for more than a “pretty dress.” We are asking you to go deep into your imagination to create a wearable piece of art that challenges what most consider to be wearable, or everyday fashion.
The Wearable Art Awards is committed to challenging artists of all mediums to push their imaginations to create evocative, imaginative and thought provoking sculpture for the human body.
An entry must fall into one of the following three form-based categories. Cash prizes will be presented to category winners as determined by the jury.
• Headdress
• Brassiere
• Complete Outfit
All entries will be juried based on the following criteria:
• Complete entry forms, images and fees received by deadline
• All entries must be wearable, and able to withstand being put on and off our models multiple times for photo shoots, fittings and performances

The Artist-In-Residence Program at Rocky Mountain National Park offers professional writers, composers, and visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park's inspiring landscape. Selected artists stay in a historic cabin for two-week periods from June through September. No stipend is provided.
Artwork Donations
Selected artists participating in Rocky's Artist-In- Residence Program from 2012 through 2015 are asked to donate to the Park an original piece of work from, and representative of their residency in Rocky Mountain National Park which will serve to promote and celebrate the Park's upcoming centennial in 2015. Donated artwork must be received no later than one year after an artist's residency.
Public Presentations
Artists will present two 45-minute public programs during their residencies. This interaction can be tailored to an individual’s medium, interest, and experience using only a few hours of one’s stay. Programs can be demonstrations, talks, exploratory walks, or performances. Artists must provide their own supplies and equipment for these presentations. In addition, artists are requested to give public presentations in their communities about their residency experiences.
The Artist-In-Residence Program aspires to share with the public the scenic beauty and stories of Rocky Mountain National Park through the world of art.
How to Apply
Artists must submit application materials and art samples exactly as indicated on the entry form. Insufficient, or excess materials, are causes for application rejection, as is an artist's proposed use of a work already in progress as a residency project.
Notifications will be made to finalists by April 15, 2012.
The Selection Process
A panel of professionals from diverse artistic disciplines will choose five to six finalists, with two alternates. Selection is based on artistic merit, the Statement of Purpose, and appropriateness to a national park residency. In addition, residencies awarded from 2012 through 2015 will be to artists whose proposed residency projects will serve to promote and celebrate Rocky's upcoming centennial in 2015.
Program Management
Rocky Mountain National Park's Artist-In-Residence Program is managed by the Division of Interpretation. It is one of the founding and longest running programs in the national park system. The works completed under this program contribute to the public understanding and appreciation of our national parks and create a legacy preserved for future generations.

The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival showcases the best contemporary fine art and craft from around the country. Artists are selected on the basis of quality, originality, and craftsmanship by a panel of jurors who are experts in their fields. Award winners from the previous year and six percent of participating artists are invited by the festival organizers. In 2011, thirty percent of exhibitors were first-time artists. The festival is produced by Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in support of its exhibition, education, and outreach programs. No sales commissions are charged and festival admission is free but voluntary donations are encouraged. 100% of the funds collected go directly to support GRACE’s mission.

AWARDS: Greater Reston Arts Center recognizes outstanding work through Awards of Excellence in Contemporary Art. A panel of judges knowledgeable in fine art and craft visits each artist on the first day of the festival and selects award winners. Awardees receive cash prizes and are automatically juried into the following year’s festival.
Note: 2011 award winners must complete a 2012 application but the application fee will be waived.
NOTIFICATIONS: Jury results will be sent to applicants by individual email on January 17, 2012.

The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival showcases the best contemporary fine art and craft from around the country. Artists are selected on the basis of quality, originality, and craftsmanship by a panel of jurors who are experts in their fields. Award winners from the previous year and six percent of participating artists are invited by the festival organizers. In 2011, thirty percent of exhibitors were first-time artists. The festival is produced by Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in support of its exhibition, education, and outreach programs. No sales commissions are charged and festival admission is free but voluntary donations are encouraged. 100% of the funds collected go directly to support GRACE’s mission.

The non-refundable fee for applications of $50 is payable online or via the mail by check. Early or late deadline dates apply.

These residency grants are designed to enable artists to produce a limited edition book work at WSW. Working intensively in our studios for six to eight weeks, artists print and bind their own books. WSW technical assistance includes training on new equipments, introduction to new materials, and assistance with production.
The grant includes a stipend of $2,000 to $3,000 for six to eight weeks, materials up to $750, access to all studios, travel costs (within the Continental US), and housing. Projects are chosen by a jury of outside artists and curators.
Generally, we encourage an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50. WSW has developed a series of archive and exhibition opportunities for the books. The contract stipulates 10% (or ten books) for WSW archives, exhibition, and display copies; 10% of the edition for the artist; and 80% of the edition for general marketing. Artist have the option of collaborating with WSW on marketing of artists' books for a 50% commission fee. WSW has artists' books in collections world-wide and six institutions are repositories of all the artists' books published by WSW. The repositories are: Indiana University (Bloomington), Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Delaware, Vassar College, Virginia Commonwealth University and Yale University.

•A one-page description of the project (send 3 copies)
•A structural dummy to demonstrate how the book will be bound (It does not have to be a complete representation of the finished piece.)
•Ten images of recent work. (Images should reflect the direction of your work in your primary medium.)

This group exhibition is open to all professional artists whether from the worlds of crafts, visual arts, fashion or design. A jury of professionals will select the artists and the artworks to be exhibited.

Your curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages).
A description of your artistic approach explaining how the artworks submitted fall within that scope.
A CD containing pictures of the artworks submitted (maximum 10). The pictures must be in JPEG format at 300 dpi.
A detailed description of each artwork: title, year, material(s) used, technique(s) used, dimensions, sale price and photo credit. If necessary, a plan of the setting up of the artworks should be included in the application.

This opportunity is for artists with teaching experience and knowledge of intaglio, silkscreen, or hand papermaking who are interested in creating their own work while also working with local public school students.
Women's Studio Workshop's Art-In-Education Program, Hands-on-Art (HOA), is a collaboration with the Kingston City School District and has become a national model for arts education. HOA provides a high quality arts experience by bringing students to a professional arts space to spend concentrated time learning printmaking, papermaking, and book arts.
Spring Fellows Requirements: Must have teaching experience and knowledge in one of the studio areas (silkscreen, etching, or papermaking). Fellows teach two days per week for three weeks. In exchange fellows receive housing and access to the studio of their choice (during open studio hours) for five weeks.
Fall Fellows Requirements: Must have teaching experience and knowledge in one of the studio areas (silkscreen, papermaking, or etching). Fellows teach one day per week and pay $300 for a four week fellowship. In exchange they receive access to the studio of their choice (during open studio hours).
