2024 Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show
National Building Museum
Washington DC
September 27 - 29, 2024
The 2024 Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show is an exhibition and sale of wearable contemporary American craft and design held annually in Washington DC at the National Building Museum. Unlike the juried Smithsonian Craft Show presented each Spring, Craft2Wear artists will be selected by members of the Smithsonian Women’s Committee (SWC), which produces the Craft2Wear show.
ELIGIBILITY
The Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show is committed to presenting thoughtful, original, and skilled wearable American craft and design. The Show is looking for artists who produce one-of-a-kind or limited edition items that have been conceived and perfected by the artist and created in the artist’s studio. All work submitted to the Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show must be created and made in the United States.
The SWC is seeking a full range of wearables and accessories.
Wearable Art - Artwork that is predominately clothing made from any materials.
Wearable Accessories - Artwork which is predominately scarves, shawls, shoes, handbags, belts, socks, gloves and/or hats made from any materials.
Jewelry - Artwork, which is jewelry, tie tacks, and/or cufflinks made from any materials.
The Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show encourages artists to continue to grow and stretch the limits of their work. We recognize that new technologies are increasingly helpful in this process, so it is acceptable to submit work in which CAD/CAM and other industrial techniques such as 3-D printing tools are used in the creative process.
The use of repurposed materials, including found objects and sustainable practices, should be included in the Artist’s Statement, if applicable.
Only U.S. residents who make their work in the U.S. are eligible to apply.

Womens Studio Workshop_Studio Workspace Residency
DEADLINE: May 15, 2024 (ONLINE)
Studio Workspace Residency
Womens Studio Workshop
Rosendale, NY
Length of residency: 4 - 6 weeks
Women’s Studio Workshop envisions a society where women’s visual art is integral to the cultural mainstream and permanently recorded in history.
Our mission is to operate and maintain an artists’ workspace that encourages the voice and vision of women and trans, intersex, nonbinary, and genderfluid artists. We provide professional opportunities for artists at various stages of their careers and promote programs designed to stimulate public involvement, awareness, and support for the visual arts.
The Studio Workspace Residency is an opportunity for artists to create new work and fully immerse themselves in WSW’s supportive environment. We invite applications from artists at any stage of their careers. This residency gives artists the gift of time, an uninterrupted period to live and work away from the stresses of daily life. Artists may choose to work in any one or more of our studios: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, darkroom photography, or ceramics.
Artists receive a thorough studio orientation and are expected to work independently, although studio staff is available to provide assistance. Deep technical assistance can be arranged for an additional fee. Artists must provide their own materials, some of which can be purchased from WSW.
As of 2019, all workspace residencies are fully subsidized! This means that while artists are still responsible for their own travel, materials, meals, and other personal incidentals while in residence, WSW provides housing and studio space at no cost.
Application must include:
- A current resume
- A brief description of your proposed project, including the studio(s) you’d like to use. 300 word maximum.
- Up to ten images of recent work
- An image script, which should include the title, medium, dimension, and date of each image

M.J. GOERKE considers a book construction as something designed and made by hand; self-contained as a traditional paged book or as a sculptural piece to house the book. Likewise, book deconstruction is just as important, as the entire contents of a book can be emptied to transform the piece. M.J.'s work is in many corporate and private collections, including the ArtColle Museum in Sergines, France and the Internal Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction in Mexico.

Leeway Foundation: Leeway Transformation Award
Leeway Transformation Award
Leeway Foundation
Philadelphia, PA
The Leeway Foundation's grantmaking programs honor women and trans artists for their ability to create social change through their artistic and cultural work.
The Art and Change Grants and the Leeway Transformation Awards fund women and trans artists (including those identifying as transgender, transsexual, and/or genderqueer) living in the Delaware Valley region of Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties, who engage in art and social change work and have financial need.
Leeway supports the natural intersection of art and social change. We understand that art is not born in a vacuum. Art is created within a context. Who we are, where we live, how we relate to our communities, and how we view the world influence what we create, how we create, and why we create art for social change.
The Transformation Award provides unrestricted annual awards of $15,000 to women and trans artists living in the Delaware Valley region who create art for social change and have done so for the past five years or more, demonstrating a long-term commitment to social change work.
The Award is unrestricted (it is not project-based) and open to women and trans people working in any art form, traditional or non-traditional.
We encourage you to apply if you are a woman or trans artist who:
•Creates art for social change that impacts a larger group, audience, or community.
•Has been creating art for social change for the past five years or more, demonstrating a long-term commitment to this work.
•Has financial need and limited or no access to other financial resources.
•Has lived for the past two or more years in the Delaware Valley region: Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County.
The Transformation Award application is a two-stage process.
Stage 1: Leeway will award up to 8 Transformation Awards in 2013. This is a two-stage application process. The Stage 1 application is due May 15. Stage 1 is open to all eligible applicants. A panel of community-based artists will review applications and make decisions to invite applicants to submit work samples for Stage 2.
Stage 2: By invitation only.
