Craft Alliance Call for Proposals

Deadline: June 30, 2014 (RECEIVE)

Call for Proposals
Collaborative Exhibitions in Craft Materials
Craft Alliance

Grand Center
New Urban Gallery
St. Louis, MO
2015/2016 Season

Proposals being accepted for 2015/2016 solo/collaborative exhibitions in craft materials at new urban gallery, in Grand Center, St. Louis, Missouri.

Exhibition Project Description

The proposed exhibition space will enable Craft Alliance to present site-specific installation pieces that use craft techniques to create spatial environments and that bridge the line between craft and fine art as well as experimental or multi-media craft work. Craft Alliance will present the St. Louis community with exhibitions which challenge conventional notions of craft and which broaden the understanding of the vital role of craft mediums in contemporary art.

The installation should visual transform the 750 square foot space. We would like to challenge each submitting artist to look at the layout of the gallery and design work that engages the whole space as a site-specific installation while considering the viewer’s relationship to the work and how one approaches and encounters the piece.

The size of the gallery space is approximately 1000 square feet with 750 square feet dedicated to installation space, with floor to ceiling pillars every 14 feet. The gallery has 8’ storefront windows on the full eastern street side, 26 running feet of wall space on north side and 32 feet on west side. The ceiling height is approximately 12 feet. There is limited access to the ceiling. Please contact exhibitions@craftalliance.org for a more detailed floor plan.

The artist is allowed approximately 10 days to install the work. The proposal must include an outline of installation process, carefully estimated budget (including artist stipend, transportation, travel and de-installation), and process of de-installation. Artist must include drawings of how the work will fit in the space, taking in to consideration the columns and front windows. Craft Alliance encourages the artist to come and visit the space and get to know the surrounding St. Louis community.

Craft Alliance will offer 2 exhibitions per year. Applications are accepted on rolling bases through June 2014.

‘Net Curtains’ Site Specific Installation

Deadline: July 24, 2013 (EMAIL)

‘Net Curtains’
Site Specific Installation

Thelma Hulbert Gallery
Honiton, Devon
4th and 5th of September 2013

The Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Devon is looking for women to be part of an exciting installation project taking part in September.

Artist Andrea Stokes has been invited to create an installation at the gallery and the gallery is looking for enthusiastic women to help out.

‘Net Curtains’ is a site specific project which will bring together local women in the creation of an ambitious art installation that inhabits the whole of the Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Honiton, Devon. The gallery is a late Georgian town house formerly the home and studio of artist Thelma Hulbert.

Artist Andrea Stokes has been invited to create an installation at the gallery as part of ‘intoLACE’, an exhibition bringing together artists whose work references lace and runs from 14th September – 2nd November 2013 in partnership with Devon Guild of Craftsmen. The installation will be a drawing that appears to fill the whole building and engages with the house and its histories, incorporating designs from traditional Honiton lace – a craft the town is renowned for since the 17th century.

The installation will cover the inside of every window in the gallery and will be visible from inside and out. The drawing will have the delicate quality of lace and will create the illusion of ‘net curtains’ in all the windows of the house with one continuous line/thread that travels and weaves over the entire space.

A team of 24 local women will transfer the design onto the windows during a two-day event. Each participant will be paid £250 for taking part. All women over 18 are welcome to apply, priority will be given to women who live in the East Devon region. No prior experience or artistic skills required.

The dates for the project are 4th and 5th of September 2013. To take part you must be available on both of these days and be happy to be photographed during the event. Selection will be by application form and short informal interviews. The deadline for applications is 12pm on Wednesday 24th July and interviews will take place on Monday 29th July.

The Marlin and Regina Miller Art Gallery at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania requests proposals from artists, craftspersons, and designers for the production of an original, temporary, site-specific installation for our exhibition space. The artwork will remain on view from February 13 – March 14, 2014. The selected artist (or artist team) will be awarded $7,500. The award must cover all material and labor costs associated with the production of the work, all incidental costs, meals, transportation costs, and all artist fees and honoraria. A group of Kutztown University students will be available to assist with the physical production of the selected proposal.

Application deadline is end-of-business, Friday July 12, 2013

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Proposed artwork can be realized in any medium and there are no restrictions on form or content. However, proposals that demonstrate innovation and deep, nuanced understanding of contemporary art, craft, or design are preferred. Proposals must be for a site-specific installation and must differ greatly from a proposal for a solo exhibition.

All proposals will be reviewed for overall artistic merit, impact on the experience of our students, feasibility within the established time-frame and budget, artist's demonstration of ability to complete such a project (as evidenced by past projects or a detailed work plan and budget for the KU project), and the relationship of the project to the gallery's mission.

The Marlin and Reginal Miller Art Gallery of Kutztown University presents significant and professionally executed solo and group exhibitions of contemporary art in a variety of mediums as well as supporting programs, events, and services that will directly enhance the artistic and philosophical development of our students and will contribute to the lives of residents within our service area. We strive to challenge assumptions and stimulate discussion by presenting artwork and programs relevant to the social and cultural life of the general and special populations within our service area.

François Schneider Foundation “Contemporary Talents” Competition

Deadline: December 15, 2012 (ONLINE)

“Contemporary Talents” Competition

François Schneider Foundation

Presentation of the theme: WATER

Water, essential to all life and to the development of mankind, is a multifaceted and yet singular element. It is symbolically one of the natural elements, with air, fire and earth, which make up the universe. It is at heart of mythology and religion. It is a sign and a symbol, and constantly changes form. Water is a natural resource, of course, but for a large part of mankind, it is the rarest asset.

Competition Rules
This competition is open to candidates of all nationalities, all ages, and in the following six disciplines of the plastic arts: painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography and video.

In the installation and sculpture categories, the artists have the possibility of submitting either existing works or projects. For the four other disciplines, only existing works may be presented. Each year, the François Schneider Foundation devotes to the “Contemporary Talents” competition a maximum budget of €300,000, which is divided into two parts: 150,000 € for the acquisition of seven works and another 150,000 € for the realisation of the works presented in project form - will reward
the seven artists’ projects, including the “Water Talent” award.

Organisation of the Competition
Artists are invited to submit their offerings on the water theme, realistic or utopian, figurative or abstract, whilst offering a singular and sensitive viewpoint on this theme.

All the proposals will be examined by several committees of experts - four pre-selection committees (each comprising two professionals qualified in their field: photo, video, painting/drawing, sculpture/installation) - who will examine the work of the 40 finalists.

The choice of finalists will be submitted to an International Grand Jury comprised of well-known personalities from the world of art who will select the seven winners.

Registration: until 15 December 2012

Online submission of candidatures: until 5 pm on 31 December 2012

You must register and submit your candidature online.
