Terms and Conditions:
All submissions to Birds in Stitches must incorporate some fiber medium or technique (quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, weaving, rope, twine, thread, etc.) AND must have some bird imagery or theme. The design must be original, although incorporating patterns as PART of your design is acceptable.

Only two dimensional or low relief, wall hung works will be considered. Works may not exceed 30” in any one direction or 50 lbs. in weight. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. All accepted work must be delivered to the curator no later than September 23, 2011, and must be ready for hanging.

Entry Fee = $25 for up to two works.
Up to $500 in Juror’s awards

Juror: Cash prizes will be awarded by an independent fiber artist, to be announced after the exhibit opens.

Curator:
Independent curator Eva M. Capobianco is a locally well-known sculptor in the Ithaca area. She has organized numerous juried shows for State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca and for 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning New York. She also has many years of experience doing exhibit installation for these galleries as well as for the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island, NY. Many of her current wall hung sculptures incorporate cross stitched bird images.

Quilts=Art=Quilts showcases quilts as an art form. Quilts are chosen based on overall quality of design, originality and visual impact.

Definitions & Conditions of Entry (truncated)

• A quilt is a fabric sandwich comprised of at least two layers: a top, a back and usually a filling which are held together with quilting or tying threads. Integration of non-fabric items is acceptable.
• Up to two entries of original work per person are permitted.
• Preliminary acceptance will be granted based on digital images. Final acceptance will be granted after receipt and examination of quilt.
• The jurors and staff of SMAC reserve the right to refuse any accepted entry for exhibition if it does not contain the same qualities as the submitted image.
• Quilts must measure a minimum of 900 square inches total (Height x Width = Square Inches). The vertical dimension of any single piece may not exceed 108”.
• Quilts must have been completed within the last three years.
• Quilts previously exhibited at SMAC are not eligible.
• Quilts that do not meet conditions of entry will not be accepted.
• SMAC will retain a 25% commission on all sales made during the exhibition. An insurance value and a sale price, which includes commission, must be included on the entry form.

Entry fee: $30 for up to 2 quilts for non-members and $25 for new or current SMAC members

Selection Process/Awards

• An emphasis is placed on overall quality of design, originality and visual impact. Preliminary acceptance will be granted on the basis of the digital image submission.
• Results of the jury process will be mailed by September 16, 2011.
• Prizes will be awarded for excellence in design and workmanship in multiple categories, including a $1,000 prize for Best in Show.
• All accepted quilts meeting conditions of entry will be eligible for cash/prize awards.
