Alberta Craft Contemporary Weaving Call for Entry

DEADLINE: April 29, 2024 (ONLINE)

Contemporary Weaving Call for Entry
Alberta Craft Feature Gallery Exhibition

Alberta Craft Council
July 6, 2024 - November 9, 2024

Alberta Craft is excited to announce our call for entry for the upcoming Feature Gallery Exhibition Contemporary Weaving.

The traditions of weaving run deep and encompass many different materials and forms. Cultures from around the globe have incorporated woven objects into daily life as functional and expressive objects such as baskets, screens, cloth, and carpets. We are seeking contemporary examples of this ancient method of making. Your submission may draw on traditional inspiration or be experimental in technique or material. Submissions are not limited to traditional fibre media; we encourage artists working across all craft disciplines to apply.

Please note: Alberta Craft does not exhibit 2D works such as photographs, paintings, prints, illustration, or drawings.

Eligibility:
Artists who are current Alberta residents, and Canadian residents outside of Alberta who hold an Alberta Craft membership are eligible to apply.

All works must be for sale. Current general, professional, emeritus and student member artists receive 60% artist commission, non-members will receive 50% commission.

Our Mission:
“The Festival of Quilts aims to promote and encourage all aspects of patchwork, quilting and appliqué to enable quiltmakers at all levels to exhibit their work.”

THE RULES (truncated)
In addition to the specific requirements of each competition, the following Rules and Regulations are common to all.

Definition of a quilt: The structure of a quilt is traditionally three complete layers but a minimum of two complete layers may be appropriate. Stitch or other elements must pierce these layers.

1. Only one piece may be entered per category.
2. Entries must have one dimension (either height or width) of at least one metre (this does not apply to Miniature, Quilt Creations, Young Quilter or Schools). All quilts must conform to any size constraints imposed by their category. The Organisers’ standard quilt frames can accommodate quilts up to 179cm wide by 230cm high; larger quilts can be hung on a wall.
3. A Hanging Sleeve of 10cm (4inches) must be attached to the back of the quilt, unless it features an integral hanging device. Failure to provide this may mean that the quilt cannot be displayed. (This does not apply to Miniature and Double-sided).
4. Double sided quilts should have an integrated hanging method, either along the top of the quilt or between the layers and the quilt must not exceed 179cm wide x 230cm high in order for it to be hung effectively.
5. Miniatures must have a 5cm (2 inch) sleeve attached to the back of the quilt unless it features an integral hanging device.
6. The decision for the category entered is the sole responsibility of the maker. Quilts will not be moved to another
