JOHN LEWIS SPECIAL EXHIBIT_ Atlanta Quilt Festival

DEADLINE: June 1, 2024 (ONLINE), via Email

JOHN LEWIS SPECIAL EXHIBIT ENTRY
"Getting Into MY Good Trouble Continuing the Legacy of Congressman John Lewis”
Atlanta Quilt Festival

Southwest Arts Center
South Fulton, GA
August 2, 2024 to  August 25, 2024

In 2024 the Atlanta Quilt Festival will premier “Getting into MY Good Trouble — Continuing the Legacy of Congressman John Lewis”, the final exhibit in the trilogy designed to honor the life and legacy of Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis represented the Georgia 5th Congressional district where the Atlanta Quilt Festival is based. In addition to his great work in the Civil Rights Movement, he loved quilts. The quilts will capture in cloth the work that remains to be done to continue to work toward the beloved community.

OUR THEME

John Lewis made America a better place to live, and his work benefitted all Americans. Part 3 of the trilogy seeks quilts that express how we may continue his legacy. Progress has been made, but there is much that remains to be done. What change do you think is needed to make the world a better place? It could involve voting, sports, education, housing, money, equal rights, abortion, criminal justice reform, etc. Imagine the beloved community and think about what issue would get you off your couch and catapult you into action. We must learn to tell our own stories, and every story is important. You may also want to read John Lewis’s book “Carry On – Reflections For a New Generation” to inform your creativity. We must learn to tell our own stories, and every story is important.

QUILT SUBMISSION DETAILS

Your quilt should not be larger than 60 inches wide. It must be a fiber quilt with a label and a four-inch sleeve on the back. All techniques welcome. It must be delivered to the Atlanta Quilt Festival by June 1, 2024 and be available for display until September 8, 2024. The exhibit may travel in 2025. If so, you will be asked to sign a loan agreement if you want to participate in the traveling exhibit.

Take some time with the title and the story behind your quilt. Acceptance will be based on the beauty of your quilt and the story behind it.

To submit your quilt, send a photo with the title, dimensions, techniques, and story of your quilt to ov.brantley@atlantaquiltfestival.com. Or submit online at atlantaquiltfestival.com under the enter your quilt tab after February 15, 2024. Please submit as soon as possible but no later than June 1. 2024. We can only accept 30 quilts.

Solo, Group and Concept Submissions Manifest Gallery

Deadline: June 1, 2015 {ONLINE}

EXHIBIT PROPOSALS
Solo, Group and Concept Submissions

Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center
Cincinnati, OH
Season 12: September 2015 - August 2016

One-third of Manifest's exhibits are dedicated to solo exhibits. Solo exhibitors have included local, regional, and national artists from as far away as New York City, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. It is important to our non-profit operations that each of our seasons of free public exhibits consist of a balanced mix of solo and group thematic projects. The group shows provide diversity of approach, media, style, and geographic origin, while the solo exhibits provide a deeper insight into one artist's vision.

Types of proposals:

- Solo exhibits

- Two person exhibits (while this is acceptable, it is strongly recommended that artists wishing to propose a two-person exhibit submit individual solo proposals, and request consideration of the two-person show as a curatorial option.)*

- Group shows

- Curatorial project (call for entries proposal by curator)

*NOTE that our curatorial process also considers the possible combination of solo proposals into small selective group shows when possible, and agreeable to the artists.

Eligibility: Anyone can submit a proposal. Artists should bear in mind the need for a consistent and very strong body of work when submitting.

Media/Genre, etc: Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media. Manifest sets out to survey, locate, exhibit, and document excellent quality amongst all types of art. Our record of showing a broad mix speaks for itself.

Jury and Curator: Manifest's main selection process involves a complex two-part system. Most exhibits are juried by an anonymous 9-12 member panel of professional and academic advisers with a broad range of expertise. The jury then passes along their recommendations to the exhibit curator who will make the final selections from the jury-approved pool. Solo proposals are handled in a similar way. While artists may provide a specific goal for an exhibit, the final selection and layout of works will be determined by a Manifest curator in consultation with the artist.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (truncated)

We'd love more than anything to be surprised by something you've created that we've never even thought of. Don't forget: we're the online knitting magazine with a sense of humor, and we love patterns that create joy, whether they're weird, strange, fun or all three.

We don't do novelty yarn, and we rarely publish children's garments or accessories, unless they're exceptionally clever or unique. For the best chance of being published, submit your designs for men's or women's sweaters.

Remember, as you design for Knitty, ask yourself this: what makes your design unique? Tell us about it when you write your e-mail to us.

Submissions must be new -- not previously shown in any form [even just a picture] in another mag or on any website, including Flickr or Ravelry. Once your work is published in Knitty, you may include a picture on your website with a link to the Knitty website. October 2012: Exhibitions Installed
(Final Exhibition Dates TBA)

The Arts Center invites artists working in installation art to submit proposals for a new offsite exhibitions program, Art in Rural Storefronts. The program supports risk-taking and non-commercial artists by exhibiting work that would otherwise not be shown in traditional retail/gallery spaces.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

The application is open to all Oregon-based visual artists or artist groups. Artists must have an interest in transforming an unused storefront into a site-specific art installation that is relevant to a diverse rural community. Artists with experience working in media that constitute installations/integrated environments will have preference in the selection process.

Applications will be evaluated based on excellence, relevance, feasibility and the degree to which the proposal matches the project’s goal to exhibit work that would otherwise not be shown.

Honorarium: The Arts Center will provide an honorarium of $1200 to selected artists. The honorarium covers artist expenses for the project including design, fabrication, travel and installation.

About Art in Rural Storefronts:

Art in Rural Storefronts serves regional audiences in Linn and Benton Counties by bringing innovative, thought-provoking art projects to rural communities that lack spaces dedicated to contemporary/non-commercial art. More than just a beautification project, Art in Rural Storefronts strives to bring new ideas to unexpected community spaces. The project also supports regional artists by providing the opportunity to share their work to new audiences.

Art in Rural Storefronts is collaboration between The Arts Center and Rural Development Initiatives. The project is funded in part by the Oregon Arts Commission.

All artist applications must be submitted via email.

Fiber Art Show 2012
Infinity Art Gallery

Grand Opening - June 15, 2012

Eligibility:
All juried exhibits are open to artists everywhere.

Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Media (video/film/audio) not accepted. The original design and concept must have been created by the submitting artist, have been created without the use of a kit, and may not have been created under supervision or instruction. Artists may submit work that was submitted for previous exhibits, but may not submit artwork previously selected by the jury as a finalist in any exhibit at Infinity Art Gallery.

Qualified Artwork:
Open to all fiber artists. Fiber art is a style of fine art which uses textiles such as fabric, yarn, and natural and synthetic fibers. It encompasses a wide variety of styles, including art quilts, wall hangings, sculpture and other 3 dimensional art, weavings and mixed media.

Fiber art works are works of art that communicate a message, emotion or meaning and go beyond just the literal meaning of the materials. We invite artists to showcase the fiber art medium.

Intention: (truncated)
Finalists will be selected for artistic excellence, which includes concept and mastery of technique. Artwork will be selected solely on its own merit without regard to the artist's name, geographic location, national home or any other factor outside of the quality of their artwork.

Jurors:
Material ARTistry is a group formed from five artists of a like mind but broad experience in the fiber and fine arts. A passion for creating art that makes use of fiber, textiles, thread, and other seemingly humble materials brings together the diverse visions of Sally Zehrung, Jae McDonald, Sandra McMorris Johnson, Margot
Lovinger, and Janet Hiller the members of Material ARTistry.
