Time 2024: SDA New Zealand, Australia and Africa Members Exhibition

DEADLINE: June 29, 2024 (ONLINE)

Time 2024
SDA New Zealand, Australia and Africa Members Exhibition

from out of the blue gallery, Ōpunakē
Taranaki, New Zealand
November 21, 2024 to December 20, 2024

This is an open invitation for members of The Surface Design Association in New Zealand, Australia and those in African countries to participate in an SDA exhibition in 2024. The theme of the exhibition is TIME.

While many any of us connect time with the passage of the tides or seasons and this has long established cultural roots across the world, this is not a universal viewpoint. Notions around Time “belong to a culture’s ‘silent language’ – its invisible influence has far-reaching implications on how a culture perceives itself and the world around it.” This exhibition call invites artists to consider Time from their own personal cultural constructs and to use the ‘language’ of their practice to make this ‘visible’ to their audience.

The criteria for entry to this exhibition is a current membership with SDA. If your membership has lapsed or you are wanting to join the SDA to enter this jurying, there is a discount code for sign up to SDA.

Works must have been completed since January 2023.

Juror: Carole Shepheard ONZM. Carole is a NZ Printmaker and educator with a long practice in the arts.

The Mosesian Center for the Arts invites artists to submit work inspired by literature, the written word, folk tales, and tales of all kinds from fairy tales to narratives that are autobiographical or speak of the human condition. Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit artwork that combines text and image or interprets stories ranging from well-known literary pieces to personal writings.

Poetry, novels, songs are often enhanced by images. Children books are made more vivid when accompanied by pictures. Album covers and music videos come to life when combined with visuals. Art works such as painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, comic books, video, film, and sculpture that emphasize storytelling, or are influenced by the written word would be considered. Artwork, whether depicting a well know work of literature, mythology, or more conceptual interpretation of the connections between words and images are also encouraged.
