Brooklyn Artists Gym: MATTER
Deadline: May 29, 2012 (EMAIL)
MATTER
Brooklyn Artists Gym
Brooklyn, NY
Opening Reception June 30, 2012
The exhibition “Matter” aims to create conversations in terms of the traditional and nontraditional materials used in constructing the artworks. Possible points/questions to consider: How does the history of the material effect the interpretation of the piece? How is the material transformed or re-appropriated through the artists’ process? Does the work seem/feel uncomfortable, divine, inappropriate, cute, humorous, sad, nostalgic; does it represent your relationship with your boyfriend or girlfriend, is it reminiscent of a specific building or season, does it make you hungry? What meaning can one make based on the structure, pattern, texture, color, form, and weight?
Open call for all mediums (sculptural/3D media, video, performance, and surface design are highly encouraged)
2D /3D work no larger than 8’ in direction
Submission deadline: Tuesday, May 29th 2012 (email an Open Call Submission Package with-3 jpeg images and brief, one paragraph, artist statement to show@brooklynartistsgym.com)
