Maryland Art Place Curators’ Incubator Program
Deadline: May 12, 2012 (POSTMARK) or (HAND DELIVERY)
10th Anniversary Curators’ Incubator Program
Maryland Art Place
Baltimore, Maryland
May 2 to June 22, 2013
Maryland Art Place (MAP) announces a call for curators to participate in the 10th Curators' Incubator exhibition competition. This program was developed to provide a creative space for the region’s aspiring curators to develop and present their concepts. MAP guides the curatorial process through the counsel of its Program Advisory Committee.
Curators' proposals will be juried by MAP's Program Advisory Committee. The selected curator or curatorial team will be chosen to fully develop an exhibition scheduled for MAY 2 – JUNE 22, 2013. MAP welcomes discussion with curators prior to the deadline to assist in developing strong proposals.
The call for entry requires that curators complete an application form and submit a proposal, outlining the curators' ideas and goals in a statement of intent, while including a short bio for each artist intended to be included in the exhibition. Curators may not include themselves in the exhibition. After the initial review of proposals, a small number of curators will be asked to advance to the second phase of the application process where they will submit additional information, including
images of artists’ work being proposed for inclusion in the exhibition. Curators will be asked to come to MAP to present their proposals and if selected, will receive individual mentorship as they work to develop their exhibitions for debut in MAP’s galleries and to strengthen their curatorial writing in preparation for publication in a program catalogue.
Selected curators will be responsible for coordinating the delivery and both the installation and de-installation of artists’ work. They will also be responsible for unusual expenses regarding the installation and removal of their exhibitions, and must sign an agreement that their exhibition space will be returned to its original condition.
There is no fee to participate in the Curators’ Incubator program.
The deadline for submitting materials to be considered for the 10th Anniversary Curators’ Incubator Program is 5pm, May 12, 2012. Materials can be either hand-delivered to MAP or post marked.

Target Gallery Celebrates 25 Years
Torpedo Factory Art Center
Alexandria, VA
September 8 - 30, 2012
The Target Gallery, national exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, promotes high standards of art by continuously exploring new ideas through the visual media in a schedule of national and international exhibitions. The gallery hosts nine exhibits annually--some juried, some curated--featuring a variety of themes and artists. In an effort to keep our perspective challenged, our exhibits are usually composed of artists outside of the Torpedo Factory and represent artistic views from around the world.
This is an all-media exhibition that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Target Gallery. This is open to all artists nationally and internationally. Artists are asked to submit work that responds to world events that have occurred over the past 25 years. A catalog and poster will accompany this exhibition.
A commission of 40% will be taken on all works sold as a result of this exhibition. Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing. Works are insured while in Target Gallery. Artists are required to sign a Loan Agreement and a Terms & Condition Agreement if accepted. The Target Gallery will keep the CD of accepted works and reserves the right to reproduce the images for all media and publicity purposes. Artwork must have been made within the last five years.
Entry Fee: $25.00 (covers the 3 pieces of artwork for entry). Each additional piece is $10.

Kala Fellowship Awards
Deadline: May 18, 2012 (RECEIVE) or (ONLINE)
Kala Fellowship Awards
Kala Art Institute
Berkeley, CA
2012 Season
The Kala Fellowship award is an international competition open to artists from the U.S. and around the world. Hosting nine new artists at Kala each year helps to ensure that the artistic energy and vision of Kala’s entire community of artists in residence is continually re-energized and rejuvenated.
Artists producing innovative work in book arts, electronic/digital media (video, sound, animation, etc.), installation art, social practice, photography, and printmaking are encouraged to apply. Fellowship Awards will be given based on conceptual creativity, originality and artistic excellence as well as technical knowledge.
Annually, the Fellowship Competition is juried by a panel comprised of Kala’s Directors and an outside Bay Area arts professional. Kala is pleased to announce Dr. Stephanie Hanor, Director of Mills College Art Museum as Kala's invited Fellowship juror for the 2012 competition.
We select nine artists and each receives a fellowship consisting of:
* a $3,000 cash award
* up to six months of studio residency at Kala Art Institute
* 24/7 access to Kala's studio (An individual studio space may be also available depending on proposed projects and schedules.)
* a free class or equivalent tutorial sessions.
* an exhibition opportunity at the Kala gallery of the artwork created during the residency
Eight of the nine Kala Fellowships awards are available to artists from the US (including California) and around the world.
One of the nine Kala Fellowship awards is designated specifically to a California artist living outside of the main metropolitan areas. To serve a more diverse constituency, The James Irvine Foundation generously funds this Fellowship award. Artists from the North Coast, Central Coast, Central Valley and Inland Empire are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Additionally, one of the nine Kala Fellowship awards is available to artists from the US and around the world working in Social Practice.
* a $3,000 cash award
Social Practice can be loosely defined as a form of collaboration that engages social and public interaction as the primary component of the work. Examples include but are not limited to the following: alternative exchanges of goods and services, community-based projects, activating non-typical art viewing situations, social and political activism.

Faena Prize for the Arts
Deadline: July 6, 2012 (ONLINE)
Faena Prize for the Arts
Faena Arts Center
Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires
Argentina
May 2013
The objective of the Faena Arts Center is to provide a space for the most cutting-edge expressions in contemporary art through a program of exhibitions with a strong interdisciplinary focus.
We believe that the boldest of today’s art can be found along the borders where traditional disciplines come together: the lines where the visual arts merge with design, architecture, new technologies, fashion and literature.
THE FAENA PRIZE FOR THE ARTS
This is an open call to artists across the world that offers US$25,000 in prize money and US$50,000 to finance the production of a site-specific project. The project will be exhibited at the Faena Arts Center in mid-2013. In addition, two special mentions will go to two other projects with a prize amount of US$500 each.
Concept of the Faena Prize for the Arts:
This edition of the Faena Prize for the Arts is reserved for site-specific projects, that is, projects especially conceived for the physical and symbolic space of our new exhibition room.
The call is for new projects in different artistic fields and/or interdisciplinary projects (installations, performances, paintings, sculptures, photographs, works that include design and architecture, film or video pieces, and all hybrids of the aforementioned disciplines) that clearly reflect on the space of the Faena Arts Center, respond to the center and/or occupy the center's space in a significant way.
This Prize is a chance for applicants to produce large-sized pieces, but neither size nor scale is a requisite for winning the prize.
Performance or theater pieces that involve “performances” will be considered, provided that they also include a permanent exhibition.
Eligibility:
All individuals over the age of 18 can participate in the Competition, including young artists, artists with an established career and well-known artists (the “Applicants”). Both individuals and art collectives can apply. Each art collective can present one project. The artists who are part of an art collective that presents a project can also present their own individual project.
Jury:
The prize winner will be selected by an international jury of three experts: Carlos Basualdo, the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and an Adjunct Professor at the IUAV University in Venice, Italy; Caroline Bourgeois, curator of the François Pinault Foundation exhibit, and Inés Katzenstein, the Art Department Director at the Torcuato Di Tella University. The jury selection will be supervised by Ximena Caminos, Executive Director of the Faena Arts Center.

Theme: Ego. Ego is a heavily laden term. We challenge you to react to this term, using it as a catalyst for the creation of your artwork.
