PA Guild of Craftsmen: Thread Count
Deadline: February 25, 2009 (RECEIVE)
Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen
Thread Count
Guilded Tulip Gallery
Lancaster, PA
May 1-June 6, 2009
In a celebratory look at contemporary and heritage work, the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen contrasts the fibrous materials and artistic vision used to create exemplary craft through Thread Count: A loosely-woven exhibition highlighting material strength. From delicate silks and translucent papers to heavy woolens and dense woods, we begin to understand the fibrous properties of paper, textile, wood and reed and the ways in which we rely on fiber in all its forms.
Serving as a double entendre, Thread Count also explores the material strength of individual artistic voices whose commitment to craft is found through manipulation of fibrous materials. This special exhibition may be complemented by meet-and-greets with the craftsmen, studio tours and demonstrations.
Juror:
Elisabeth R. Agro, the Nancy M. McNeil Associate Curator of American Modern and Contemporary Crafts and Decorative Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art
Eligibility:
Open to all craftsmen in fiber, basketry, paper or wood. Submissions representing the finest quality craftsmanship are welcome. Membership in the Pennsylvania Guild is required. If you are not a member, a membership form must accompany your application. Forms are at www.pacrafts.org/join.
A non-refundable application fee of $25
If work is for sale, PGC will retain a 25% commission upon the sale of each piece of craft or artwork accepted into the exhibition.
