2009-2010 Wind Challenge Exhibitions
Fleisher Art Memorial
Philadelphia, PA
The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial announces the call for entries for next season's Wind Challenge Exhibitions. This juried, regional competition, presented by the Fleisher Art Memorial has gained a national reputation for excellence since its establishment in 1978. Each season, Fleisher exhibits the work of selected artists in three three-person exhibitions.
Selected Artists
Nine artists will chosen
Three six-week exhibitions in Fleisher's galleries
$1000 honorarium to each selected artist
Jurying & Selection Process
Round One: An artist-juror and a curator review images in their appropriate category. In this initial review, approximately 10% of all candidates are selected to advance to the second round. Selected candidates will be notified, by e-mail, in the first week of April 2009.
Round Two: Second-round candidates are required to submit an original work, which is reviewed along with the original image submissions by the full artist-juror panel. Announcement of final selections will take place immediately following the second-round jury.
2009-2010 Jurors
Artist Jurors:
Susan Fenton, photographer and assistant professor of art at St. Joseph University
Richard Hricko, artist, professor at Tyler School of Art, and principal at Crane Arts
Paul Hubbard, sculptor, professor and chair of 3-D fine arts at Moore College of Art & Design
Curator Jurors:
Peter D. Barberie, curator of photographs, Alfred Stieglitz Center of the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Miriam Seidel, curator, Gershman Y Galleries
Helen M. Shannon, director of museum education program, University of the Arts
Eligibility
Artists must live within a 50-mile radius of Philadelphia and must not be participating in a solo exhibition or showing a major body of work in a local gallery or alternative space during the 2009-2010 exhibition season (September 2009 through July 2010).
Students enrolled in full-time, degree or certificate-granting programs in the visual arts during the 2009-2010 academic year are not elegible to apply.
Previous Challenge artists are not eligible to apply.

Starting in early January, eligible artists may download the call for entries form or pick up a copy at 719 Catharine Street during business hours.
Fleisher will review digital images only — no 35mm slides will be accepted.
