A Brand New Day

Dear Readers:

It's hard to believe but summer is almost over. Of course, we've spent our time wisely. Today's post is the largest we've ever done--25 items! In addition, the FACFE blog header now has an image and we are working on a few cool things that are scheduled for unveiling in mid-October.

As of today, the posting schedule returns to a new normal. The Keeper must (temporarily) modify the schedule so updates will appear every two weeks instead of once of week. We plan to return to weekly postings by November.

As always, thanks for your readership.

3rd Triennial of Textile Art

Call for Projects

Hungary
June 2009

The Cultural Foundation for the Textile Art and the Art Gallery of Szombathely will organise the 3rd Triennial of Textile Art in June 2009 in the Gallery of Szombathely.

Theme: presence = being present

When we unfold the word "presence" and discover its two semantic constituents – "being" (being part of the material world; being) and "present" (the present time, the era in which we are living – we find that when they are matched and juxtaposed in one word – "presence" – the meanings of the two separate notions assume new complex meanings pointing far beyond their individual meanings.

art6 is currently accepting applications for spring 2009 and fall 2010. The final deadline for consideration for a show in 2009 is Sept. 2008. For 2010, the deadline is June 2009. Once the Exhibition Committee reviews applications, you will be notified by mail.

Each artist is free to display their work as they see fit as long as it does not damage the gallery. However, there are guidelines that must be followed when hanging work.

It is the policy of art6 that all galleries shall be used for each show. Any exception to this policy requires approval by the Exhibition Committee.

Some of the work must be for sale in each show, unless otherwise approved, e.g., for "Special Shows." It is recommended that no less than half of the works be offered for sale.

art6 is entitled to a commission on sales made as a result of the show, even if they occur after the show. If a purchaser sees a work in the show and decides to purchase it within three (3) months following the show, art6 should receive thirty (30%) percent commission.

Laughingstock - Humor in Art & Craft

Laughingstock - Humor in Art & Craft

LUKE & ELOY GALLERY
Pittsburgh, PA 15201
November 15, 2008 - December 23, 2008

LUKE & ELOY GALLERY currently reviews images for the gallery's exhibition "Laughingstock - Humor in Art and Craft" (November 15, 2008 - December 23, 2008)

We are interested in artists whose work displays a strong "humorous component" either in design, material, or context and we would like to explore how artists use irony, goofiness, satire, and sarcasm in their work. The exhibition should reveal how humor and satire can stimulate laughter as well as serve as a vehicle to explore more serious subjects, such as feminism, the natural environment, the excesses of consumer culture, social injustice, and war. Can artwork be "funny" and critical at the same time? How does the artist's choice of materials affect the outcome so that the work is perceived as "funny"? What are the boundaries in humor and who gets to decide what these are? Are there topics we are not allowed to laugh about ?

All media will be considered including but not limited to painting, sculpture, art jewelry, mixed media, textiles, clay, metal, wood, glass, paper, photography, video and performance. All artwork must be one-of-a-kind originals or limited edition pieces created by the artist. Mass produced pieces are not acceptable. Wall and ceiling hung work must be tightly wired for hanging; no saw tooth bars.

All artwork submitted for review and exhibition must be for sale and remain at LUKE & ELOY GALLERY throughout the exhibition. A gallery commission on all sold works will apply.
