As part of the city wide celebration of altered books, Susan Hensel Gallery and MNARTISTS.ORG invite you to apply to be part of the Minnesota contingent to be exhibited in "SPACE 144," a display case gallery, at the Minneapolis Central Public Library.

Inside Altered Books: Unbinding the Book
Presented by Dr. Betty Bright, book arts historian, and Chip Schilling, book artist and printmaker

Doty Board Room Lecture
The exhibition will be part of a city-wide series of workshops, exhibitions
and programs capped by the annual convention of the Public Library
Association, in Minneapolis, March 25-29, 2008.
According to the International Society of Book Artists, an altered book is
any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work
of art. For the purposes of this call, the definition can be stretched to include book objects, and sculptures that use some component of a published book.
The "SPACE 144" display case size: 12'wide, 6'high,20"deep.
HOW TO APPLY
Email up to 3 high quality jpg's. Please include a description that includes media, approximate size of piece and display requirements. Appointments may be made for in-person viewing of work.
2-d and 3-d, all media are welcome as long as recycled book elements are a component of the work and size matches the case.
Accepted artists will be expected to provide a resume and artist's statement about their work and any available press clippings.
PUBLICITY
Publicity will be handled primarily by MNARTISTS.ORG through the e-magazine access+ENGAGE sent out to over 10,000 subscribers and on the website. Susan Hensel Gallery will also send local, area and national publicity. Email and web publicity before, during and after the show will occur on the gallery website.
SALES
Clients will be put in direct contact with the artists.
INSURANCE: Covered under library insurance.
SECURITY: Minneapolis Central Library provides security
All shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist. Accepted work must be sent with return UPS or FedEX barcoded shipping label enclosed; You can set up an online account at UPS or FED EX. No charges accrue until your package is shipped. If a piece sells, return shipping is not charged as the box will not be shipped. All return shipping MUST be by FEDEX or UPS. No exceptions. No COD's.

• Applications must arrive by November 28, 2007
• Decisions will be sent by Dec 1, 2008.
