Fabrica: Making Space

Deadline: Ongoing

Making Space

Fabrica
Brighton UK
Unusual Opportunity

Making Space is an opportunity for artists to make new work, layout or document work or try something out for a small invited audience in Fabrica outside of our main exhibition programme. Please note that this is not an opportunity for an exhibition.

Fabrica is Making Space available to artists on the basis of testing new ground, to try new ways of working and using the space in imaginative ways. It could be used to make a sound piece, try something on a larger scale or document work.
Artists are invited to submit a short proposal of no more than 1 side of A4, with a CV and send a CD with jpeg images of recent work (maximum 5) or a link to your website. The proposal would need to make a case for using the space at Fabrica, the projects would need to run for between 2-4 days and take place on weekdays.

Cost £50 per session basic, if heating were required this would add an extra £50 per day. Artists by negotiation can work outside office hours but they will need to pay for staff on top of the £50 basic admin fee.

Criteria:
• Artistic projects in any art form
• Fit in with the organisation (i.e. people would still need to be able to access the gallery and be free to do so)
• Be 'studio' projects, i.e. focussed on developing, documenting or producing work rather than outward facing presentational or public events. Exhibition proposals or proposals for performances seeking a walk-up audience will not be considered
• Be 2-4 days in length, access to the gallery space outside of office hours will be considered but this will involve additional costs
• Make a case for using this space rather than any other.
• Artists would need to be prepared to undergo a health and safety briefing for building use
• Artists can apply anytime of year but projects are likely to take place in June, September, December, January, February and March. (Depending on venue hire and other programming)
• If proposals are successful artists will be contacted to discuss details and we will confirm 1 month before the project begins

What is Fabrica?
Fabrica is a visual arts organisation based in a former Regency church in the heart of Brighton that commissions contemporary visual art installations specific to the building.

Fabrica is a place where artists come to make new work. Fabrica supports and encourages the artists with whom it works to be adventurous and to test the boundaries of their practice. It encourages an open dialogue between artists and visitors within the gallery space and produces an integrated programme of education and audience development activity that strives to remove barriers to access, engagement and understanding.
