The Craft tradition has deep roots in our cultural histories and continues to evolve as our collective identities change and shift with the times. Bedford Gallery is seeking artists working in a broad range of material and conceptual approaches to craft, whether traditional or contemporary, conventional or
cutting-edge. “By the Hand” is open to artists working in clay, glass, wood, metal, and fiber to represent a broad range of styles exploring the breadth of contemporary craft in terms not only of tradition and design, but also of expression and concept. “By the Hand” will feature work which address and celebrate Craft’s own history and traditions of handwork, as well as work which examines our current times and evolving methods of “making”.
Jurors: Suzanne Baizerman, Independent curator. Former curator of crafts and decorative arts, Oakland Museum of California., and Jo Lauria, independent curator and museum consultant. Former decorative arts curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This exhibition will be juried by slide.
