Call for Art by women for the annual HER MARK publication and exhibition. All themes, styles and media are welcome. Only slides of the most excellent quality will be considered, as selected slide images will be used in final calendar production. HER MARK 2007 is an exhibition in book form, one that travels outside the Gallery walls and remains in people's hands throughout the year. The Art Market in Welburn Square

DEADLINE: continuous through August, 2006.

The Cultural Affairs Division of Arlington County, Virginia and the Ballston-Virginia Square Partnership present The Art Market in Welburn Square.


The market takes place every second Saturday of the month, May through September, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each exhibitor will be assigned approximately 100 square feet (10' x 10' or 8' x 12') of display space. Each artist is responsible for turning their exhibit space into their own private gallery.

Artists are required to send a photo or sketch of their exhibit display with their application. All fine craft and art media are accepted including but not limited to: clay, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, paper, wood, original painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber art, digital, and mixed media. Jurying will be done by a rotating panel of art professionals.

All accepted artists may participate in more than three markets in a market year but must commit to three. Artists accepted mid-season are expected to participate in at least two markets. Late season applicants will be scheduled according to space availability.

SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2007

SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2007. Artists working in the six Mid-Atlantic states (VA, DC, MD, WV, DE, PA) may apply for solo exhibitions between January-December 2007 in one of the Arlington Arts Center galleries, which include 525 combined running feet of hanging wall space and two experimental galleries designed to accommodate installation, video, or other work requiring a complete environment. All media will be considered. The grounds surrounding the building can accommodate outdoor sculpture. Applicants must

To support young, talented female artists in the region, MOCA produces an annual solo exhibition of an emerging woman artist under the age of 30 through The Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist Series. Established in 1998 and underwritten annually by Mr. and Mrs. Dan T. Moore, this series provides exhibiting artists with a scholarly catalogue and artist residency in partnership with Hawken School. Interested artists submit applications, which are reviewed by a committee.

This exhibition series was created in memory of Wendy L. Moore, an inspiring artist and native Clevelander who died in 1997 as the result of an accident. To continue Wendy's spirit, the Moore family sponsors an annual exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland devoted to furthering the career of a young female artist in our region. This opportunity includes a professionally mounted exhibition, a full-color, scholarly catalogue, and a substantial stipend for the artist. This series has helped to launch the professional careers of its recipients through exposure in the art world and advancing their opportunities to pursue future exhibitions, grants, and awards.

This series has also helped its recipients gain exposure in the art world and has opened up curatorial, grant and both regional and national exhibition opportunities. Mr. and Mrs. Dan T. Moore generously underwrite the Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist Series at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland annually.

Eligibility In order to be eligible for the Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist Series the applicant must be:

� Currently living in Northeast Ohio.
� Without a previous one-person museum exhibition.
� Under the age of 30 at the time of application
� Not enrolled as a full-time student after June 1, 2006 (for the 2007 exhibition)

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts Residencies

Two Deadlines:

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts offers an average of thirty-eight juried residencies per year to writers, visual artists and composers. There are a number of transitional residencies reserved for recent masters degree program graduates. These candidates are reviewed as a separate peer group. Residencies are available for either two, four, six or eight weeks stays.

The Center, inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, is located in the historic district of the Missouri River town of Nebraska City. Essential amenities, such as a grocery store and pharmacy, are located within walking distance for residents without cars. The Center also has two bicycles for the use of the residents.

Each of the two apartments in the Center has a balcony and shares the use of three private landscaped courtyards. Residents are provided with a private bedroom and private bath in an apartment which is shared with one other person. Writers studios are located in the apartments. Visual artists studios are in a separate building behind the Center. We encourage composers to bring their own electronic keyboard. The Center is equipped with high-speed internet access. Each resident receives a $100 per week stipend.

September 1, 2006 for Session 2: January 1, 2007 to June 15, 2007

Bronx Museum Artist in the Marketplace

The Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) Program marks the Museum’s ongoing commitment to support artists by providing training, encouragement, and a venue for exhibition. A cornerstone program, AIM was established to realize the Museum’s goal of providing professional opportunities to emerging artists in the metropolitan area. The program is annually enhanced by a broad cross-section of participating artists. It is also enriched by guest speakers: artists, accountants, collectors, critics, curators, dealers, and lawyers who provide information, instruction, and professional guidance by addressing practical areas of concern to artists, such as curatorial practice, copyright law, exhibition and public art opportunities, gallery representation, grants writing, income taxes, and marketing.

This free seminar program is offered in the fall and the spring, and meets for 12 weeks on Tuesday evenings, 6 - 8 p.m. Enrollment is limited to 18 artists per semester. The program culminates with an annual group exhibition and accompanying catalogue.

An artist residency high above the Financial District of New York City.

The World Trade Center gained a new group of tenants in 1997—artists. Since then, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council has provided studio space to over 200 emerging artists in some of the most significant architectural icons, from the World Financial Center to the Woolworth building.

Three walls and a view, this is the simple concept behind Workspace. No door means more interaction, more support from fellow artists and a cross pollination that positively influences future work.

In fact, many Workspace artists find that the proverbial door opens for them post-residency. Past residents have been offered solo and group shows, sold work, and received increased attention in various local and arts media.

What the Residency Offers

• 9-month long residency session
• Access to the studios 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Studio space is approximately 250sqf. Each studio is partitioned within a larger, shared space, but does not have a door. Studios are furnished with a desk and a chair, and equipped with wireless internet access and basic overhead lighting. There is heating, but no air conditioning; there is access to a slop-sink.
• A small stipend, depending on funding
• Access to Pace University Library and Materials for the Arts; and other special services and support as needed.
• Opportunity to apply for Visiting Artist status at either School of Visual Arts or New York University where artists have access to multimedia facilities in exchange for leading a workshop and/or lecture
• Bi-weekly Salon evenings where guest gallerists, curators, artists, writers and collectors are invited for informal discussions and studio visits
• Other opportunities to present work to the general public including Open Studio Weekend and public programs at the close of the residency. Artists will be asked to make informal presentations of their work and to actively participate in public programs and salons.
• Artists and writers retain proprietary rights to all work created while in residence.

Workspace supports emerging to mid-career artists working in all disciplines. There are two residency cycles and two open calls per year. Application materials and submission dates are online.

We now have two downtown locations with 15 spacious studios each. We will select 26 artists and 4 writers to receive free studio space in one of our two locations. With a new 9 month residency!

Program Overview

The Rotunda Gallery's Curatorial Initiative Program fosters emerging curatorial talent in the field of contemporary art. Each year the Rotunda dedicates its professional space and full staff support to realizing the vision of an emerging curator selected through this open call for proposals. The curator is awarded the Lori Ledis Memorial Award, which was established through the donations of family, friends and professional associates of Lori Ledis, a pioneering art dealer and music producer, and member of both the Rotunda's Artist Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors of Brooklyn Information & Culture.

Application Process
Submit a one-page written description of your idea for a thematic group exhibition. Please describe how the exhibition theme will be developed through the artwork presented. You may include between 5 and 10 slides of artwork; these do not need to be exact pieces you will include in the exhibition, but rather selected to illustrate your ideas. All media will be considered.

Selection Process and Criteria
Five curatorial finalists will be selected; each will receive a $100 honorarium and be asked to prepare a full proposal including the names and resumes of 5-12 Brooklyn-affiliated artists (artists who live, work or were born in the borough) and slides of proposed work. Curators may not include their own work in the exhibition. Final selection will be made by the Gallery's Artist Advisory Committee. One proposal will be selected for presentation during the 2006-2007 exhibition season; the curator will receive the Ledis Award, a $1,000 honorarium.

Visual Arts Sea Grant

Visual Arts Sea Grant offers grants for marine-themed work.

The Visual Arts Program of Sea Grant (Rhode Island) was established in 1988 to encourage New England professional visual artists to address the issue of the environment of the ocean and its coastal communities. Grants are intended to financially assist individual and/or collaborating artists whose works are related to themes of the marine environment. Curatorial proposals will be considered. The grants, up to $2,000, are awarded annually. The deadline for this year's proposals is May 30, 2006.

Applicants are required to submit the following materials:

1. Ten slides, CD or DVD, of recent work and a list.
   Please identify each work. Specify name, medium, title, date, and dimensions.
2. A current resume.
3. A brief statement, outlining the objective of the proposal,
   relevance of the work to ocean environments,
   and the relationship of the proposal to your past work.
4. Itemized budget including: supplies, services and support personnel.
5. A self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of slides and materials
   and a self-addressed, stamped postcard to acknowledge receipt and processing.

The deadline for receipt of application is May 30, 2006

Previous recipients of Sea Grant awards are not eligible for five years. Individuals enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students are not eligible. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of Rhode Island professionals in the visual arts. Awards winners will be notified by September, 2006. A written report of the results of creative activities supported by Sea Grant, including appropriate visual documentation, is required at the conclusion of the project.

Curatorial ProposalsSought for 2008 & 2009 Conferences

College Art Association invites curators to submit proposals for exhibitions whose openings will coincide with the Annual Conference. The upcoming conferences are:

Dallas, February 20-23, 2008. Deadline: September 1, 2006.

Los Angeles, February 25-28, 2009. Deadline: Open.

There are no limitations on the theme or media of work to be included in the exhibition, except that it must be a group show of contemporary art. CAA's Exhibitions Committee reviews and judges the proposals based on merit. CAA provides support for the exhibition with a grant of up to $10,000. An additional grant of $5,000 is available for an exhibition catalogue to be printed in sufficient numbers for distribution to all Annual Conference attendees.

Artist's Eligibility:
Open to all artists 18 years and older working in a realistic or representational genre. All original 2-D media (except photography) not previously exhibited at the Fraser Gallery. The maximum dimension (including frame) should not exceed 40 inches in any direction. Three dimensional work, which can be wall-hung is also acceptable. Reproductions are not acceptable. Iris or Giclee entries are not acceptable unless all the artwork has been created digitally. All work must be framed and presented professionally to conservation standards.

Focus of Exhibition: Contemporary Realism

Fees: A non-refundable fee of $25 U.S. Dollars entitles the artist to submit three slides/JPG files. Additional entries may be submitted at a cost of $5 U.S. Dollars per entry.

Awards:
The winner of the Best in Show award shall receive $500 in prize money. First, Second and Third Prize winners will receive $200, $150 and $100 respectively in prize money. All prizewinners may be invited to further exhibit in the gallery's future group shows.

Rules (Partial)
Entries must be handwoven on a loom.
Weavers may submit up to two entries.

There will be amateur and professional divisions in each of the following categories:

Accessories - Scarves, purses, jewelry, etc.
Decorative Functional - Linens, rugs, pillows, afghans, etc.
Decorative Non-Functional - Wall hangings, tapestries, 3-D work, etc.
Wearable - Clothing
Yardage - Minimum 3-yard length plus 14" full-width handling piece. Roll both pieces on a cardboard tube - do not fold. Weaver must be willing to allow the yardage to be hemmed and weighted for display.

Neal Howard, a professional weaver and dyer for 15 years, is a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild, Piedmont Craftsmen, and Handweavers Guild of America.
Liz Spear is a full-time studio weaver of yardage and maker of garments, in Western North Carolina.
Kathrin Weber Scott is a professional hand-dyer and handweaver.

Awards: Awards will be given in each category. Special awards, including the HGA Award, will also be presented.

A Mitten for MichiganConvergence 2006 Grand Rapids Fiber Challenge

Design and send a pair of handmade mittens to Grand Rapids—any fiber technique, any material.

Eligibility
The Fiber Challenge is open to any and all C06 participants and is intended to be informal and fun.

A map of Michigan makes it a most recognizable state: the lower peninsula looks like a mitten. The challenge is to design and send a pair of handmade mittens to Grand Rapids—any fiber technique, any material. Make the mittens the size of your hand, or a child’s hand. If you are producing an “art” mitten, you could even “lose” one of the pair and make just one.

The mittens will be displayed at Convergence 2006 for all to admire and enjoy. A silent auction will be held from Thursday until noon on Saturday. Fill out a bid sheet near the mitten display in the Vendor Hall. At noon on Saturday, the highest bidder on each pair will be able to take their mitten set. The proceeds and any unsold mittens will then be donated to a local charity. Think of the satisfaction in helping keep hands warm through the long Michigan winter.

All entered mittens must be sent ready to show and exhibit. Mittens will be auctioned or donated to charity and will not be returned to the artist.

All work is subject to final approval by the jurors’ representative after its arrival. Submission to Spin a Grand Strand implies that the artist understands that all work, without exception, must remain for the duration of the exhibit.

Submitted work can be created using traditional or nontraditional fibers.

Skeins must be formed by yarns made in a two-yard (1.8 meter) loop, secured with four figure-eight ties made of the same yarn. Skeins need to be either 100 yards (90 meters) or between two and four ounces (56.7 grams and 113.4 grams). Identification tags MUST be securely attached to the skein.

Three skeins may be entered per artist. Skeins must be originally conceived and created by the entrant: it should be one-of-a-kind, unpublished, not previously exhibited at a Convergence, and completed within the past two years.

Work executed under classroom supervision is not eligible.

All accepted entries must be sent ready to show and exhibit.

All entries must remain on display until the conclusion of the exhibit.

Various prizes will be available and awarded by the juror.

The 2007 Anne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships

Applications are invited for Samstag Scholarships, for study overseas in the visual arts from 2007.

The University of South Australia offers the scholarships on behalf of the Trustee of the estate of Gordon Samstag, late of Naples, Florida USA.

Each 2007 scholarship includes, for twelve months of overseas study, a tax-exempt stipend equivalent to US$32,000 (United States dollars), plus return airfares and institutional fees for one academic year.

The following are eligible:

• Graduates, of not more than five years standing by 30 June 2006, of a studio-based course at an Australian institution of higher education;

or

• Visual arts students currently enrolled in a studio-based course in an Australian institution of higher education, who will have completed at least two years of full-time equivalent study.

All applicants must be either Australian citizens or have permanent residency status, and be at least 18 years of age. Persons currently overseas may apply provided they are otherwise eligible in accordance with the above.

The only additional bit of info that I'd like to be sure to add is that all the postcards should be mailed to me under-cover, that is, in a packet/envelop so that collectors/buyers of the cards can decide to use them for their own correspondence purposes or save for display. BTW I've already gotten many submissions and the work is very good!

Subject: postcard exhibition

As part of my getting-the-word-out-about-the-media effort I'd like
to encourage you all to consider submitting work for a postcard exhibition that I'm curating for the Artisan Center of Virginia (in Waynesboro VA) http://www.artisanscenterofvirginia.org/. The exhibition will hang for the month of June 06 with an opening reception scheduled for Sat June 3. The gallery director chose the show title Postcards on the Edge (fiber art and mixed media) From my perspective one of the nicest things about this
exhibition is that it will also sell the postcards over the course of the
exhibit with the artists receiving 60% of the sale price.

My plan for display is to drop down strands of monofilament with intermittent clasps (preferable alligator clips but I'm still search for a bulk source for these) from the ceiling to a foot or two above the floor. The gallery space will be ringed with these long, free hanging strands of postcards (can't you just imagine them, gentle swirling from air currents?). When someone buys a card, a new one will be clipped in its place. To maintain some sanity in pricing for the ACV folks, ALL post cards will be priced at $30 (so don't send a card that you don't think getting $18 in compensation for is worth your time/skill/materials....likewise please don't send a card that you don't think is "worth" $30....) Size restrictions are linked to US postal rules for 1st class mail so the postcards need to be:

3.5" minimum height x 5" minimum length
with maximum sizes not to exceed 6" height x 11.5" in length.
Thickness not to exceed 1/4"
(of course you can use any measurements between these min/max limits)

All postcards need to be received by May 1, 2006 in order to get a full inventory list in place before the gallery installs the exhibition. There is NO submission fee involved and your only expense will be the postage to send the work and a return SASE with sufficient postage to return all cards in the event that yours don't sell. The gallery will send artist payments by the 15th of the following month (July). If you will email me (mb4q@virginia.edu) to let me know you've put them into the mail, when I receive them I will send you an email confirming arrival. By including your mailing address in that email, I'll add you to the mailing list for the exhibition announcement/postcard.

Open to all residents of the USA. Submit only work completed within the last three years. All works submitted must be original works of the applicant and must not have been accepted in prior juried exhibitions of the SCAA. No reproductions or copies will be accepted.

CATEGORIES OF ELIGIBILITY INCLUDE:

Painting - Oil/Acrylic; Painting - Watercolor; Pastel; Printmaking - etching, woodcuts, serigraphs, etc; Drawing; Sculpture - metal, clay, wood or any mixture in 3-D form; Photography; Mixed Media (list all materials used); Fine Crafts.
