Residencies begin September 2015
Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design Artist-in-Residence program encourages emerging and mid-career artists by providing them a work space free-of-charge, access to a built-in audience and an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work. The residencies give the public and students in CAAD’s outreach and education programs the opportunity to learn about the techniques and processes involved in creating art with craft materials.
Residencies in clay, metals, fibers and wood turning are currently available for 6 or 12 months, beginning in September of each year.
Media requirements: Fiber, Clay, Small Metals, Woodturning
Applicants must be able to fulfill a program requirement of working in their studios 20 hours per week and take on the role of Studio Assistant. Teaching is encouraged.
Jury selection is based on quality of creative work, ability to interact with the public, and career direction. Residency start dates and length determined by program review panel. Accepted artists will be notified by phone in March.
• 3-6 residencies awarded
• 6 or 12 month residencies available
• Residency cycle begins in September and ends in August
• Each artist will receive a 180 square foot rent-free space equipped with phone and Internet access
• Each studio opens onto a common area, and the artists will have access to classroom studios for metals, clay, fiber, wood turning, and graphics, and also nearby water/sink facilities
• A wide variety of teaching opportunities are available through Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design’s Education Center and Community Outreach Program
• During the residency, artists’ creative work is represented by Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design and may be considered for sales in the Delmar Gallery Shop
• Additional opportunities are provided, such as discussions with curators and gallery owners, exposure at Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design events, and interactions with visiting art professionals
• Ongoing professional development
• Group exhibition at the end of residency cycle presented in the Delmar Loop Gallery
