Embroiderers' Guild of America

The Embroiderers' Guild of America is seeking work for an international exhibition of contemporary embroidery that features color as its main theme. The exhibit will be on display at EGA National Headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky from August 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015. Accepted works are due in Louisville, KY, USA June 15, 2014. All members of the EGA, the American Needlepoint Guild, the Embroiderers Association of Canada, the Embroiderers' Guild UK, the Association of New Zealand Embroiderers' Guilds, the Australia Embroiderers' Guilds, and the Cape Embroiderers' Guild of South Africa are invited to enter.
Guest jurors/curators are Shirley Kay Wolfersperger, Carole Rinard, and Ann Erdmann.
The jurors/curators of this exhibition are looking for contemporary embroidery and mixed media embroidery that are concerned with color. We are looking for work with artistic merit that may include:
* optical mixing
* specific color combinations
* relative color
* colors of the imagination
* color of memories
* colors that communicate
* colors that the artist loves and/or hates
* personally poison colors
Please include with each entry an artist statement of up to 100 words about how the color in the work speaks to the main themes of the exhibition and what inspired the use of those colors.
All works should have been completed since 2010 and should be original work or adaptations. All types of embroidery, including but not exclusive to counted work, surface work, canvas embroidery, machine work, quilting, and mixed media, are welcome. Mixed media work is defined as embroidery plus non-embroidered media such as paint, paper, basketry, etc.
Works should be no larger than sixteen inches (41 cm) on any side, including a frame, if applicable.
Three dimensional works will also be accepted (16” max. in any direction.)
Fee: $35 US non-refundable fee for up to three entries.
