CoXist Studio is a center for innovative events and creative services in the heart of booming Kaka’ako. Designed and renovated by students of UH School of Architecture, CoXist Studio is a raw, diverse warehouse space engineered to respond to the needs of the prolific Hawai’i community. Through collaboration and coproduction with leaders in the industry, we provide a space for cutting edge workshops, exhibitions, photo shoots, and events.

CoXist Studio is pleased to announce an official Call for Entry for their October 2013 Juxtapose at CoXist Studio, in collaboration with Hawaii Fashion Month (HFM), and Honolulu Night Market. Free to enter, this is a worldwide Open Call for Designers and Artists (emerging and established) to transform elements of urban life into wearable art. There are no restrictions on the material used to create the garment or accessory.

In conjunction with Honolulu Night Market, design entries will be considered for the exhibition that will open on October 19, 2013 in CoXist Studio from 8-11pm, and will remain on display until the closing of HFM (October 31, 2013). Juxtapose is open to the public, and is expected to receive 600+ viewers over the course of the showcase. The pieces can be for purchase, the designer receives 100% of the profit from the sale.

Throughout the exhibition, there will be a custom installation by Robert Reed inside CoXist Studio, 3D visual design by Aisis Chen, and local fashion elements to be announced. The opening night will feature DJ’s from Kitchen Music Society (Honolulu), video projection, hookah and cigar lounge, and a craft cocktail bar.

Up to 10 designers will be chosen by the jurors.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES


1. Provide general information: Full Name, Address, Email, Phone Number, and Website/social media (if desired), and a brief detail on how piece would be worn or used, materials used and any inspiration behind the piece you feel is important.

2. Submit 3-5 images (front, back, detail) of created garment/accessory to be displayed at exhibition. Please provide all photos in JPEG format, no larger than 2 megabytes.
a. Use the following naming convention for all images: JSMITH_Title.jpeg
b. Focus on urban life: use materials found, used or discarded in the city.
3. Deadline: October 5 2013 for Oahu-based applicants, September 22nd 2013 for off-island applicants (to allow shipping time).
a. Chosen applicants will be notified within 5 days of submission.
b. Off-island designs need delivered to Oahu by October 12 2013. If garment is to be returned please provide a pre-paid shipping label or coordinate pick-up.
c. On-island designs need to be gallery ready and delivered to CoXist Studio by October 12 2013.
d. All shipping/delivery must be paid for by applicant.


JURORS

Robert Reed, multidisciplinary artist. His work has been performed and exhibited locally, nationally, and globally including New York, San Francisco, Baltimore, Boca Raton, Indianapolis, Krakow, and Venice.

Mary Babcock, visual and performance artist as well as Associate Professor and Chair of the Fibers Program in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
