High Fiber Under Five
Deadline: August 13, 2012 (ONLINE)
5th annual High Fiber Under Five
Benifit Exhibition and Sale
San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles
San Jose, CA
October 20 - November 4, 2012
High Fiber Under Five 2012 is the 5th annual fiber benefit exhibition and sale—a signature event at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles that runs from October 20, 2012 to November 4, 2012. High Fiber Under Five is designed to generate support for fiber artists and the Museum’s fiber art advocacy efforts by connecting artists around the globe with collectors and by introducing this medium to our community as a whole.
We welcome submissions of all kinds of fiber art—basketry, jewelry, knitting, sculpture, quilts, wearable art, tapestries, and mixed-media pieces in which fiber plays a prominent role. Our goal is to showcase high-quality pieces that will pique the interest of art collectors and attract new collectors.
This year, we’d like to encourage you to submit artworks that we can offer for sale between $100 and $300. You can submit work priced as high as $500, but we have noticed that mid-range priced art sells more frequently than the higher priced items. If works are $100 each, you can submit up to 15. There will be a onetime submission fee of $10. The total retail value of your submissions may not exceed $1,500. If you are submitting works valued at $500, please submit only 3.
All of the accepted work will be hung salon style for the opening VIP reception on October 20, 2012. As items sell, the purchasers will be given the option of taking the pieces home that evening. Remaining work will be on display until it sells or until the last day of the benefit exhibition, November 4, 2012.
FEE: One-time $10 submission fee
