Creative Residency at The Art House

Designer Maker West Midlands (DMWM) have created three residencies for West Midlands makers at The Art House. Art House is a national visual arts organisation and is housed in a landmark building designed to ensure outstanding access for disabled tenants and visitors. DMWM is inviting applications from mid-career and established designer makers who are interested in researching and developing their work and practice through this opportunity.
The three residencies will run for three weeks from 8 March to the 29 March 2010 (Monday to Monday) at The Art House, studio space and flat accommodation will be provided. The designer makers on the creative residency will be awarded a bursary of £750 for materials, maintenance and travel expenses and will be expected to keep a log/diary of their activities experiences on the residency. The three DMWM residencies will run simultaneously giving selected makers the opportunity to network and engage in discussion with each other about their practices. Selected designer makers will have the opportunity to talk to a mentor (an arts professional) about their work, ideas and plans before and after the residency.

•time for reflection, developing new work and researching new ideas
•support and discussion with a mentor
•opportunities for networking and peer group support with other practitioners
•opportunities for visiting regional galleries such as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Leeds Art Gallery for inspiration and research
•a bursary of £750 for materials, maintenance and travel expenses
Suitability
Applicants should fit into the following criteria:
•be designer makers based in the West Midlands
•have been practising as a maker for at least 4 years
•aspire to the development of new work
•already have an establish body of high quality work
•have a proven record of exhibiting at a national and international level
•a record of developing new work
