Black & White Project Space will prominently feature site specific installations stressing the links between the indoor and outdoor environments by dedicating the entire space to a single artist or group of artists. In order to create a deeper understanding of the projects presented in the space, exhibitions will be on view for longer periods of time moving away from the tendency simply to show and tell. To make exhibitions content available to a broader audience, every 3 seasons Black & White Project Space plans to publish a catalogue documenting exhibitions in print.

Black and White Project Space seeks site-specific exhibition proposals of high artistic merit that use diverse mediums in innovative ways to be presented from September to November, 2009 at our Williamsburg location. All proposals will be reviewed by April 30, 2009 and the final award will be announced by May 31, 2009. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2009.

Black & White Project Space is a not-for-profit organization committed to production, presentation and promotion of site-specific installations that are under-represented in commercial galleries because of their scope, content, or production cost.

We emphasize artists who are emerging to mid-career in their development and manifest the spectrum of creative approaches to contemporary art.

Available facilities:
Black & White Project Space is a 2500 square foot exhibition space equally divided between the indoor and outdoor galleries.

Available resources:
Artist Residency (June 15 – August 15, 2009)
Artist Assistants during residency
Production cost sharing

Award Criteria
Criteria used to select proposals include the following:
1) Intellectual and artistic merit in the proposed project
2) Extent of interplay between the indoor and outdoor spaces
3) Feasibility of the project under sponsorship of the Black & White Project Space
4) Extent of interdisciplinary activity
6) Presence of matching funds (indicate amount)
