Scarf Festival

Deadline: Unspecified

Scarf Festival

National Wool Museum
Melbourne & Geelong, Australia
20 June to 20 July 2009

The well known annual Scarf Festival held since 2003 by Craft Victoria will move to the National Wool Museum in June this year. Both organisations will partner to present and expand this very successful festival which has grown exponentially every year. Developed in consultation with Craft Victoria the 2009 Scarf Festival will be held from 20 June to 20 July 2009.

This is an exciting addition to the National Wool Museum's schedule of events. The museum will expand the festival by presenting craft items from its own collection representing all forms of textile art with an emphasis on the use of wool. Under the new arrangements there will continue to be a program of workshops including spinning, knitting, felting and weaving along with numerous other activities and of course awards for the best scarves entered in the festival. Workshops and demonstrations will be held in both Melbourne and Geelong.

The museum is currently calling for expressions of interest from groups or individual craftspeople interested in hosting and coordinating workshops or demonstrations during the festival. Those people wishing to register their interest in the 2009 Scarf Festival - as entrants, workshop participants or workshop hosts - should email their details to scarffestival@geelongcity.vic.gov.au or telephone the National Wool Museum on (03) 5272 4701 and ask to be added to the mailing list.

Registrations for entering scarves into the 2009 Scarf Festival will open at the end of February and details of the extensive programs of workshops, demonstrations and talks will be available from May.

All forms and information will be available from the museum's website at http://www.nwm.vic.gov.au and people who have registered their interest will be notified via email or mail.
