Art Cloth Symposium

The Textile Center will present a major symposium about art cloth, an area of growing, vital interest in the field of fiber art, July 20-26, 2006. This symposium will explore both the artistic and technical aspects surface design. Renowned art cloth artist Jane Dunnewold will be featured as the keynote speaker, speaking about her philosophy of cloth as art as well as about innovations in art cloth design.

Traditional and experimental techniques in surface design will be taught using the Textile Center's state-of-art dye lab, providing a unique hands-on component to this symposium. The majority of workshops will involve hands-on surface design activities in combination with slide presentations and lectures. Workshop presenters include Susan Monday, Ann Johnston, Els van Baarle, Holly Brackmann, as well as Jane Dunnewold. Additionally, many other local and regional artists will present seminars and lead round table discussions throughout the weekend. Presenters at the symposium have also been invited to participate in an "artist trunk show" Saturday evening.
