ROT: The Afterlife of Trees, an exhibit inspired by scientific research on tree decomposition.
The Arts Center invites artists to submit artwork as a Request for Proposals to be considered for the January-February 2016 exhibit. The exhibit is a collaboration with the Spring Creek Project, H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in the Cascade Mountains and ecologist Dr. Mark E. Harmon, the lead researcher on tree decomposition project in the H.J Andrews Forest, all associated with Oregon State University.
ROT: The Afterlife of Trees, will be an exhibition of artworks showing visual interpretations of and/or reflections on decomposition, conceived from Dr. Harmon’s forest research. The exhibition will feature both invited artists and juried artists responding to this RFP, and is open to both 2D and 3D media.
We invite artists to use the idea of “rot” or decomposition of trees in the forest as a starting point for the creation of artwork. This may include interpretations and visualizations of the concept of tree decay, research into their decay, as well as the environments where tree decay and research takes place.
Eligibility:
•The exhibit is open to all artists living or working in Oregon.
•All media, except film, video and performance, will be considered.
•Work previously exhibited at The Arts Center will not be accepted or presented to the juror.
•No Entry Fee
