World of Threads Festival: Common Thread

World of Threads Festival

Common Thread is the flagship exhibition of the World of Threads Festival. This juried exhibition attracts diverse entries from across Canada and around the world.
Common Thread is open to all practitioners of textile media and technique.
It celebrates both tradition and innovation in textile arts. Traditional technique-based textile forms are exhibited beside contemporary, conceptual textile art. This is an opportunity to provide exposure for emerging and established artists to showcase their work in this unique international Canadian fibre arts festival.
What may be submitted:
Traditional and contemporary experimental approaches to fibre including wall hangings, sculpture, installation, quilting, hooking, lace-making, knitting, weaving, embroidery, crocheting, paper-making, felting, stitched canvas, mixed media, soft sculpture, wearable art, recycling materials, plastics manipulation, basketry, conceptual work and performance.
ELIGIBILITY
* All works must be textile and/or fibre based through materials or techniques.
Commercial kits and patterns are not eligible.
* All work must be completed after 2006, of a reasonable size and weight and
completely ready to install. Special installation/display instructions must accompany entry form.
* A non-refundable fee of $30.00 for each piece submitted, must accompany the entry form. Please make cheque payable to World of Threads Festival. No post-dated cheques will be accepted.
PRIZES
Best of Show - $1,500.00
Best Traditional - $750.00
Best Contemporary - $750.00
The Jurors, at their discretion, may award Certificates of Merit.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
* Each Artist may submit up to three works
* A non-refundable entry fee of $30.00 for each piece submitted.

SALON des REFUSES
The Salon des Refusés is a historic event created by Napoleon III in 1863 to exhibit controversial works rejected by the Paris Salon. Works not selected for a juried show may be exhibited for additional education and enjoyment. In this tradition, applicants whose work is not accepted to the Common Thread 2009 will be invited to participate in the Salon des Refusés. This exhibition will run for the duration of the festival. All the same terms and conditions apply.
