2012 Cherry Creek Arts Festival

Deadline: December 1, 2011 (ONLINE)

2012 Cherry Creek Arts Festival
Cherry Creek North Shopping District

Denver, Colorado
July 6 - 8, 2012

The 2012 Arts Festival will feature 230 exhibitors, including 12 artistic award winners returning from the 2011 show. Artistic excellence of original, handcrafted work is the sole criteria for selection of exhibitors. The Arts Festival features artists in 13 different media categories including: ceramics, digital art, drawing, fiber, glass, graphics and printmaking, jewelry, metalworks, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture and wood.

General Information
The primary focus of the event is the juried exhibition of gallery quality fine art and fine crafts. Additionally, the Arts Festival offers an online art auction, artist demonstration stage, extensive educational art activities for children and adults, live performances, special curated exhibitions and high-quality outdoor food vending. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival is a tax-exempt, art services organization and all proceeds are used to produce the annual Arts Festival, to present educational art programs throughout the year, and to assist other related non-profit activities.

Emerging Artist Program
Designed specifically for artists who have no experience exhibiting and selling their artwork at any venue, OR extremely minimal experience if any. The application procedure and fee are the same as the regular show, however, upon acceptance emerging artists will pay a lower booth fee, have a tent provided and receive mentoring through the Arts Festival. Artists may only apply to the Emerging Artist Program or for the general show, but they may not apply to both. Artists who are just beginning their careers in the art world are encouraged to apply.

Application Fee: $40

Artist Awards
Prize money and an invitation to exhibit the following year jury-exempt are available for artistic award winners. A total of $30,000 is offered in artist awards and purchase programs at the event.

Attendance
The Cherry Creek Arts Festival's attendance is approximately 350,000 persons each year. Marketing is directed toward a diverse audience of individuals likely to be interested in the visual arts. While the majority of the audience is from the metropolitan Denver area, a significant and increasing number of art patrons from around the nation attend.

BAM Biennial 2012: High Fiber Diet
Bellevue Arts Museum

Bellevue, WA
October 25, 2012 - February 24, 2013

Artists are encouraged to take a creative approach to the fiber medium, considering both traditional expressions of fiber art and the fringes of the medium, where concepts of art and craft merge. The exhibition is intended to recognize the innovative and extraordinary work being produced by contemporary Northwest makers, and to celebrate the region's distinctive character.

ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility will be limited to artists currently residing, working, or studying in the Northwest region, which for the scope of this project will include: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and British Columbia. Artists may be of any age and at any level of recognition or stage in their artistic careers. Both new and established artists are strongly encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION FEE: $40

FAQs (truncated)

Is the BAM Biennial 2012 limited to fiber work only?
For the purposes of this exhibition, the term “fiber” will be interpreted loosely, and is up to the discretion of the jurors. All entries should have a strong fiber component, either in medium or technique. Examples of acceptable work include, but are not limited to those incorporating: weaving, knitting, sewing, spinning, dying, quilting, felting, braiding, lace making, macramé, crochet, basketry, tapestry, and textiles.

What if I incorporate fiber into my work, but I am not a ‘fiber artist’?
You do not have to be a “fiber artist” to participate in the BAM Biennial 2012: High Fiber Diet. Interdisciplinary artists are encouraged to apply.

Can I collaborate with another artist?
Yes. Artists wishing to work together should submit a single entry form for consideration. All artists in a single entry are encouraged to include images of their individual and/or previous collaborative work as examples.

Application is open to artists and craftsmen nationwide. You do not need to be a member upon applying, but are required to join upon acceptance. You do not need to be a juried member of the Guild.

Some Things Looming: Refuse/Re-seen

Deadline: February 25, 2012 (POSTMARK)

Refuse/reseen
Some Things Looming

Reading, PA
April 14 – June 2, 2012

The world has become keenly aware of the way our bloated consumer culture produces tremendous volumes of trash which daily feed the ever growing mountainous landfills.

This exhibit encourages artists working in fiber to become infatuated with the idea of exploring the possibilities of this disposable and disregarded stuff as the basis for this submission. Our challenge for fiber artists everywhere is to take the most ordinary, non-precious and every day materials and to create the most extraordinary. The reuse of every conceivable material is already imbedded in the psyches of many working artists today.

This exhibit will require the use of materials which are not durable and are normally considered ephemeral and short lived.

Rules of Entry (truncated)
  • All work must be original, one-of-a-kind, made by the artist submitting the entry.
  • Artists may submit up to a maximum of three images, completed within the last three years, to be in the exhibition. Due to space restrictions, 2-D work must be 40"x 40" or less, 3-D work on pedestals no larger than 18" x 18" x 18". Freestanding works will be accepted. No large installations can be considered. Yardage is acceptable.
  • Selected artists are responsible for costs of shipping their work to and from the gallery.

Entry Fee: $35.00

Juror: Warren Seelig

Warren Seelig lives and works in Rockland, Maine. He holds the rank of distinguished visiting professor in the Fibers/Mixed Media program at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he teaches, curates and writes on various subjects related to textile, fiber and material studies.

Awards: Best in show award: $250.00 and a solo show during 2012-2013 exhibit season.

International TECHstyle Art Biennial

Deadline: APRIL 2, 2012 (POSTMARK)

International TECHstyle Art Biennial (ITAB)
San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles

San Jose, CA
August 7 – October 21, 2012

The International TECHstyle Art Biennial (ITAB) is a juried exhibition of work by artists merging fiber media with new information and communication technologies in their artistic processes, as a medium of artistic expression, and/or in the content of their work. Leveraging its location in Silicon Valley, ITAB serves as the premiere platform for introducing the work of artists exploring the intersection of fiber and technology to a global community that assembles — virtually and in the real world — at San Jose's Biennial Zero1: 2012 01SJ Biennial.

As fibers, textiles, and the language of textile patterning have achieved wide attention in contemporary art practice—often as a means of evoking an experience that is both historical and contemporary—ITAB seeks to expose and explore the tensions between and among works by artists using fiber media whose work employs diverse artistic disciplines. We welcome submissions from artists in the fields of architecture, fashion, fiber art, installation art, interior design, new media, painting, sculpture, etc. Artwork demonstrating a keen understanding and mastery of the aesthetic, structural/technical, and semiotic possibilities of fiber and of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies are the hallmark of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles’ International TECHstyle Art Biennial.

“New Beat” International Student Concours

Deadline: 31 October 2011 (ONLINE)

“New Beat”
International Student Concours
Fashion Gallery
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong
People's Rep. of China
5 Dec 2011 – 18 Jan 2012

As one of the oldest forms of technology known to human kind, textile technology (making of cloth) has a long history of invention. This exhibition celebrates new explorations in textiles and creative problem solving propelled by curiosity – the synthesis of a ‘new beat.’

New Beat is a juried competition featuring select works by international design students who demonstrate inspired creativity through material manipulation. Resist dyeing, such as shibori, is a specific form of traditionally patterning cloth via manipulation and dye. Its versatility combined with modern technology has gained popular appeal with contemporary artists, including major fashion icons Issey Miyake, Oscar de la Renta and Prada. Bridging this gap between traditional and contemporary poses an interesting challenge, one that the truly imaginative and creative seize as an opportunity to travel new paths in textile’s future.

Entry Fee: $15 per entry
Up to 3 entries may be submitted per artist or collaborative group
