The III International Traditional and Designer Basketry Competition, Tenerife, Canary Islands
This competition is the only one that is dedicated to basketry in the world with 3 prizes of 1,500 euros and 3 prizes of 600 euros. The competition is open to all basket makers who carry out their activity individually, as part of a group or in a business.
Entries will be included in an exhibition entitled "Basketry in the World" which will open on 30 August in the "Valentín Trujillo Delgado" popular Art Hall of the Pinolere Ethnographic Park, La Orotava, Tenerife, Canary Islands. The organization will publish a catalogue of all the selected pieces in the finals which will then go on to become part of the Exhibition "Basketry in the World".
The Competition has three sections: traditional, artistic and combined/designer basketry. Entries may be submitted for one or more sections. All entries presented for the competition will remain in possession of the Organization until 30 December 2007 in order to take part in a travelling exhibition "Basketry in the world", the aim of which is to spread and promote traditional and artistic values of basketry. Prize-winning entries shall become the property of the "Pinolere Cultural Project" Association and will become part of the collection at the "Juan González Fariña" Basketry Museum run by the Association. A single cash prize of 1.500 euros will be awarded to the winner of each section.
