The Hunterdon Art Museum focuses on new and innovative work in all forms and mediums with the goal of creating dialogue, generating ideas and sparking creativity. HAM has a particular interest in work that explores the intersection of art, craft and design and work that displays the qualities of craftsmanship while pushing the limits of the materials in innovative ways.

The Museum seeks proposals that focus on innovative work by artists of outstanding potential and established artists who have international, national or regional reputations. Proposals may be for thematic or solo shows. Curators should have a track record of creating exhibitions in the fields of contemporary art, craft, and design; however, the Museum will also accept for review proposals from emerging curators developing their careers. Curators may not include their own work in the proposed exhibition. Additionally, the exhibition should not have been on view within 50 miles of the Museum’s location.

The HAM Program for Independent Curators is a dynamic project that opens the way for an array of ideas and viewpoints on contemporary art, craft, and design to be presented in the Hunterdon Art Museum’s exhibitions program.

Ideally, proposals should be submitted one to two years in advance of the proposed exhibition; however, shorter lead times will be considered and in some cases desired. Please do not send original art or documents, as materials will not be returned. The Museum will contact curators of interest for an in-person discussion with the Museum’s Exhibitions Committee to determine whether the proposal is feasible.

Asher Gallery, within Houston Center For Contemporary Craft, is a retail showcase for acclaimed local, emerging, and national artists in all craft media. Asher Gallery accepts work based on a number of criteria.

The Asher Gallery works on a 50/50 split consignment basis. Accepted artists are responsible for shipping and insuring any work to HCCC. HCCC assumes responsibility for shipping and insuring work returned to artist.

Criteria
• Design: includes originality, creativity, use of color and suitability of materials
• Craft Skills: finishing details, technical skills and experience with the materials, function and/or decorative merit
• Sales: marketability, pricing and product presentation

The following categories of craft objects may be submitted:
• Objects of clay, fiber, wood, metal, glass and other re-purposed or recycled materials
• Craft using manufactured parts, pieces or fabrics, if these materials are subordinate to the total design and production of the end product

Submission Guidelines
• Seven (7) to twelve (12) high-resolution images in jpg format. Images should be a minimum size of 300 dpi and 4 x 6 inches. Please include the dimensions and materials for each artwork. Please include a range of pieces that best represent your work.
• A list of retail prices for the works submitted
• An artist statement of approximately 200 words describing the processes used in the creation of your work and the ideas or concepts that you are interested in communicating
• Artist resume
• List of galleries (including locations) where you are currently represented

Houston Center for Contemporary Craft welcomes exhibition proposals year round from artists, institutions or guest curators in materials traditionally associated with craft and craft processes. All proposals are reviewed quarterly by our exhibitions committee.


Proposal Guidelines

Each proposal must include the following:
1. Exhibition Proposal Statement. This is a short description of the exhibit and why HCCC is an appropriate venue for your proposal.
2. Curriculum Vitae/Resume
3. 5-10 digital images of proposed artwork arranged in a PowerPoint presentation. Under each image, please include: artist name, title, medium, size
4. An exhibition budget and prospectus, if applicable
5. Any catalogs, press or other support materials, if available
6. A self-addressed, stamped postcard that can be mailed back to you to confirm receipt of your proposal

Living Crafts: Emerging Designer-Makers 2015

Living Crafts, the largest show of its kind in Europe. The range of crafts is enormous with literally hundreds of designer-makers from across the British Isles. There are a wide variety of lectures, hands-on workshops and spectacular demonstrations appealing to all ages.

In 2012, Living Crafts introduced a new feature to encourage fresh, original work from recently qualified Designer Makers. The Emerging Designer-Makers Pavilion was a great success, containing specially selected applicants who were able to exhibit free of charge. We are delighted that Craft&Design Magazine, widely regarded as the voice of the UK craft industry, will once again support the scheme in 2015 and will be featuring the Pavilion in forthcoming issues. Approximately 10 places are available to feature work in a variety of materials including ceramics, glass, textiles, metal, wood and mixed media.

To be eligible to enter:
•You must have completed training or gained a qualification in your chosen field of expertise since May 2012.
•Your product must be designed and made by yourself.
•Your product must have originality and be authentic.

The Designers in Residence programme at the Design Museum is a core part of the museum's activity, and exists to provide practising designers, across any discipline, with time and space away from their regular environment to reflect, research and consider new ways of developing their practice.


The Design Museum is expanding its residency programme so that, from 2016, it includes learning, public engagement activities and training, with the aim of making the design process accessible to all of its visitors. Residents will in future be based on site, where they'll have access to studio space and shared workshop facilities. These spaces, viewable by museum audiences, will foster more direct engagement and exchange between residents and visitors.


2015 Brief: Migration


“The Design Museum’s move to the former Commonwealth Institute in Holland Park finally takes place in 2016. The museum is growing in both expertise and ambition as its staff, and the wider design community of which it is a part, begin to explore the complexities of a larger building and a new role.

This seems like a good background against which to explore the theme of migration, a word with a variety of meanings. It is striking that in America, for example, those who choose to move there are described as emigrants. Britain calls those same people immigrants — they are incomers. In the US, the emphasis appears to be on the act of leaving somewhere else, the implication perhaps being that surely just about anybody would be prepared to leave their home and make a move to the US if they could. Without either prefix, migration is a less loaded term. It also has a digital application. Data is made to migrate.

This year's Designers in Residence programme, then, invites designers to respond to this theme. It can be a reflection of objects or processes that imply movement, or transition, of shifting and cross-fertilising cultures, or of mobility.” Deyan Sudjic

Eligibility: North Carolina Residents

North Carolina residents ages 18 and over are eligible to submit two original works created within the last two years. Art exhibited in previous RFAS exhibitions are ineligible. All work must be the sole work and exclusive property of the artist.


Specification for Submitted Art Work

The maximum dimension of a single work, sculpture included, is 72 inches (including frame), and it should weigh no more than 200 pounds. Image size and frame size must be specified.


Purchases: All art must be available for purchase. RFAS receives a commission of 30%. Sale prices are firm


Entry Fee: $35.00. Payment will be accepted online using PayPal.


Juror: Herb Jackson, award-winning artist and a native of Raleigh, Professor of Art at Davidson College and former Chair of the Art Department.


Awards:

The Juror will present Honorable Mention awards, three $1,000 Juror's Choice awards, and a Grand Prize of $3,000. Art will not be separated into categories for judging.

The Textile Society is keen to capture the essence of current research activity in the UK. Our first two research symposia in March 2011 and March 2013 were both outstandingly successful. We heard a diverse range of presentations from researchers across the globe who represented many aspects of textiles. Those who attended, whether as members of the audience or as presenters, were very animated by the experience. We received an unprecedented volume of thanks for organising these important events.

To celebrate, encourage, explore and support on-going research into textiles in all their diversity the Society is funding its third research symposium. We are doing so in order that researchers, would-be researchers and anyone interested to know more about what is happening can get together, create links, encourage debate and share information at a central location.

Vacations with family, get-togethers with friends, and high school reunions are occasions when we indulge in sharing stories of our past. Vintage cars and old-fashioned clothes can remind us of events from way back when. Stumbling over memorabilia in the attic may evoke nostalgic feelings. Reading a poem or novel could trigger musings of joyful moments. Old photo albums, a favorite song, or the smell of a certain fragrance might even bring us back to a special place in time. We invite you to share memories of long ago or the not-so-distant past. Reminisce a little, then share with us your story in art quilt form.


Specifications

Innovative and original works only. No kits or quilts made in a workshop with the aid of an instructor. Quilts must be multi-layered and joined by stitching. All entries must hang on the wall and not exceed 60 inches in width or height. Free standing 3-D pieces will not be accepted. Quilts may not contain images or text that are protected by copyright unless the artist has obtained written permission by the time of submission. Proof of copyright permissions may be requested by the exhibit committee.

Accepted works may be mounted on stretcher bars or other rigid support as long as the supporting structure is hidden behind the quilt (e.g., gallery wrap). Please note, in the event this exhibit travels, rigid mounted quilts or those with excessive depth may be restricted from traveling. For works consisting of multiple unconnected units (e.g., diptychs or triptychs), each unit will be considered a separate entry.

Preliminary acceptance will be granted based on the acceptance of digital images. Final acceptance will be granted upon the receipt and examination of the quilt. We reserve the right to eliminate entries that do not fit the specified guidelines and omit accepted quilts from the exhibition that do not contain the same qualities as the submitted images. The exhibition committee’s decision is final.


Awards

Cash awards for excellence in design include: 2 Juror's Choice and 1 Gallery Choice.


Submission process opens January 1, 2015 and ends at midnight CDT on February 20, 2015


Entry Fee: $25 for PAQA-South members, $35 for nonmembers, for up to three quilts. Online entries pay using PayPal.

Fiberart International 2016 seeks to exhibit the best of contemporary art and invites submissions that reflect a wide range of works related to the fiber medium.

This juried exhibition is recognized around the world as a benchmark that documents trends and innovations in the field. The goal of the exhibition is to include innovative work rooted in traditional fiber materials, structure, processes and history, as well as art that explores unexpected relationships between fiber and other creative disciplines.

Fiberart International 2016 will feature works by established and emerging artists and will be open to the public from May 6 to July 31, 2016 at Society for Contemporary Craft and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

This 22nd edition in an ongoing series of triennial shows, will be juried by Chunghie Lee, Arturo Alonzo Sandoval, and Tali Weinberg.


Entry Requirements:

• Entries must be original work completed after December 31, 2013

• Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

• Collaborative works will be considered as a single entry. Artists submitting both collaborative and individual works must apply separately, and the collaborative team will be considered a separate artist.

• Work must not exceed 8’6” (2.60m) in any single dimension. Installations larger than 8’6” will be considered only if crate size requirements are met.

• Work must be original in concept and design and not be the result of a class or workshop. Student work is accepted if it meets the previous statement.

• All work must be either fiber in content or executed in a fiber technique.
• All work MUST be available for touring for up to two (2) years beginning August 31, 2016. Work on tour will be insured.



Entry Fee: $40 non-refundable for up to three (3) entries must accompany the application.
