The Delaplaine seeks proposals on an ongoing basis for shows in our six galleries as well as school and community groups for the Community Art Wall.
Large Group Proposal Criteria
This criteria applies to guilds, societies etc.
Application Fee: $30 processing fee. This fee is waived for members of the Center (if the proposal is for a group show, the group contact person must be a member in order to waive the processing fee).
To submit a proposal you must supply the following:
• No more than 20 digital images on a CD. The images should be of current work and should substantially represent the type of work that will be exhibited. A Power Point presentation is preferred. Each ppt. image should list the name of the artist, the title of the work, the media, dimensions and the year it was created. No paper should accompany the proposal.
• Preference is given to work created within the last 3 years. Preference is given to regional arts organizations.
• A brief proposal, describing focus of the exhibit, no more than one PPT. page. Please include the following:
a. approximate # of pieces
b. approximate space required
c. special installation needs
• The group may choose to have the work juried into the exhibit. Ideally, the exhibit will contain between 40 and 80 works.
The Center’s Exhibition Selection Panel, comprised of working artists and arts administrators, collectors and gallery owners, reviews proposals and makes selections. The entries should substantially represent the scope of the work that will be exhibited; however, we recognize new work may be created for the exhibit.
We are scheduling for the 2012-2013 seasons for the main gallery. We strongly recommend you visit the Center before making a proposal. The Kline and F & M Galleries comprised the largest of exhibit spaces in the Center with 1500 square feet of hanging space on drywall and brick walls. The brick walls use a hanging system.
CD’s will not re returned. Notification of the panel’s decision will be made by email or phone notification.

Images submitted should substantially represent the scope of the work to be exhibited; however, it is recognized that new work may be created for the exhibit. Work in all media will be considered, including installations, video and film. Preference is given to artists living or working within a 75-mile radius of Frederick.
Site Visit
We strongly recommend you visit the gallery spaces before making a proposal. You may indicate a preference for gallery space, but final determination will be made by the Center staff based on Exhibit Selection Panel recommendation, scheduling and space availability.

Simply put, a box is a container with a lid. Until it is opened, a box protects the secrecy of its contents. It is imbued with mystery and the promise of surprise. As such,the empty box can metaphorically take various meaning such as that of confinement, absence, hiding place. In our day to day life we make casual contact with the mail box, the lunch box or the toolbox. And then, there are others such as the fusebox, blackbox, glorybox, coachbox, treasure box and ballot box. Each one has its own particularities and functions,a direct meaning that can take on a metaphorical one if we think outside the box.
To bring Canadian artists together, and considering the size of our country and the cost of shipping, we propose an exhibition of small sculptural works that would fit in a specific box and spring from the idea of the box itself or of one of its metaphors. The works must be three-dimensional and can be presented on a shelf, plinth, suspended or mounted on the wall.
Your proposed work should fit in a box no bigger than 16x12x12 inches, wrapping included with the lid on, without any alteration to the box. Of course, the work can be smaller but not bigger than this set size. The proposal should be for a work of expression, functional or not, that pushes the limits of your practice within a conceptual approach.
Your application must include the attached completed form, a half to one page proposal, artist statement, drawings or sketches of the proposed work and its technical information (medium, finished size, presentation), CV or resume (maximum of three pages), up to ten digital images of recent works (no earlier than 2005) and a list of images. All images (drawings, sketches and previous works) should be in JPG format at a resolution of 72 dpi (no more than 1800x1800 dpi in size).

RULES OF ELIGIBILITY (truncated)
• The work must be made of cloth or cloth-like material, and consist of: a quilt top, a backing and the middle. The layers must be held together by hand or machine-made stitching.
• Quilts must have been finished between June 2007 and July 2011, and be in excellent condition.
• Quilts must be constructed and quilted by person(s) named on entry blank. Those listed as "other stitchers” on this quilt may also have their own entries.
• Quilts must be available for judging and exhibit from September 3 - 25, 2011 - no substitutions will be allowed.
• Artists must be 18 years or older.
HOW TO ENTER: (truncated)
• You may submit up to three quilts. Send 1 full view of the completed quilt and 1 detail view. There is no size limit. The non-refundable entry fee is $35 per person, not per quilt.
• Digital images may be submitted on a CD-ROM, with no modifications—this includes color correction. You may crop the background only.
• You may place up to three quilts on ONE CD.

The TACtile Textile Arts Center invites contemporary quilt artists from to submit art quilts featuring recycled materials. Historically, quilters made quilts from scraps left over from the garments they made for their families or reused parts from worn-out garments. Of course, that did not mean that quilters ignored the esthetic pleasures of combining colors and patterns or that the quilts weren’t works of art. Some modern quilters have not abandoned recycled fabrics, indeed they have expanded their quilts to include all manner of recycled materials, but the impetus (in most cases) has changed from economic necessity to ecological concerns.
The show will be in the Gallery at The Women’s College at the University of Denver. The show will open Thursday August 11, 2011 and will run through September 28, 2011.
The Eco Quilts show will be a juried show. Our jurors will be asked to select the best examples of art quilts that incorporate recycled materials, considering the extent of recycled materials in the artwork, the integration of the recycled materials into the quilt’s theme, and the artistic merit of the art quilt apart from the use of recycled materials.
Artists may submit up to three items. The items may be for sale, or not, as the artist chooses.
SHOW RULES (truncated)
1. Eligibility: Open to TACtile members and non-members.
2. Entry Fee: Entry fee is $15 for TACtile members and $40 for non-members, for up to three works. The entry fee is non-refundable.
3. Entered work must be the artist’s original work, and may or may not be for sale. Each quilt must have at least 2 layers held together by hand or machine quilting, embroidery, tying, etc. Due to space limitations at The Women’s College, only wall hangings may be entered, and the horizontal dimension is limited to 36 inches. Entries must have a top hanging sleeve or other sufficient means necessary for the work to be hung on a wall. TACtile will not accept wall hangings with saw-tooth or clip hangers.

Time, Sequence & Technology: Book Art in the 21st Century

CALL FOR PAPER PROPOSALS
We invite and encourage papers on topics that touch on the use of time and sequence in the form and content of both contemporary and historical books, including the exploration of the boundaries of the definition of what a book can be, or may become, in today's digital landscape. Issues of materiality, concept, theory and criticism in studio practice, curatorial practice, book history and pedagogy are all welcome. We also invite papers that focus on various technologies used in the studio practices of printing and assembling of books, from traditional tried and true methods and up through current cutting edge digital design and production. Papers that address the dovetailing and/or combining of technologies are also welcome. We are accepting both abstracts for individual papers as well as detailed proposals for pre-formed panel presentations made by groups who wish to explore a specific topic in a more organized fashion.
The College Book Art Association is a non-profit organization committed to the teaching of book art at the college and university level. The Association strives to support education about book art, and is also concerned with both the practice and analysis of the medium. It welcomes as members everyone involved in such teaching and all others who have similar goals and interests. The association aims to engage in a continuing reappraisal of the nature and meaning of the teaching of book art.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Proposal submissions must be submitted via the online submission manager. Your proposal may come in the form of either a pdf, or a word document. Please do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself as all submissions will be subject to blind review. Detailed submission instructions can be downloaded from the website.
Individual proposals: Please include a proposal title at the top of the page. Do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself. Proposal should take the form of a 200-250 word abstract for a 20-minute talk or artist presentation. Accepted proposals will be grouped into panels of talks with compatible themes or approaches.
Pre-formed Panel proposals: Please include a panel title at the top of the page. Do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself. Pre-formed panels should have a designated moderator and may use one of the following formats: 3 presenters each giving 20 minute talks; 3-4 presenters for a roundtable discussion. The proposal should take the form of a 200-250 word overview from the moderator plus individual 200-250 word abstracts from each of the participants. All abstracts must be submitted in one PDF or Word document.
Student Proposals: Students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are encouraged to make proposals for individual presentations or pre-formed panels by following the guidelines for individual or pre-formed panels above. In addition, student members have the option of submitting a proposal for the student panel of Lightning Talks (see below). While students are welcome to submit proposals for both an individual presentation and a lightning talk, only one proposal will be accepted for inclusion in the conference. Student members will need to submit a copy of their current student I.D. or a letter from their institution stating that they are currently enrolled in order to be eligible to be on the student panel.

CALL FOR PAPER PROPOSALS
We invite and encourage papers on topics that touch on the use of time and sequence in the form and content of both contemporary and historical books, including the exploration of the boundaries of the definition of what a book can be, or may become, in today's digital landscape. Issues of materiality, concept, theory and criticism in studio practice, curatorial practice, book history and pedagogy are all welcome. We also invite papers that focus on various technologies used in the studio practices of printing and assembling of books, from traditional tried and true methods and up through current cutting edge digital design and production. Papers that address the dovetailing and/or combining of technologies are also welcome. We are accepting both abstracts for individual papers as well as detailed proposals for pre-formed panel presentations made by groups who wish to explore a specific topic in a more organized fashion.
The College Book Art Association is a non-profit organization committed to the teaching of book art at the college and university level. The Association strives to support education about book art, and is also concerned with both the practice and analysis of the medium. It welcomes as members everyone involved in such teaching and all others who have similar goals and interests. The association aims to engage in a continuing reappraisal of the nature and meaning of the teaching of book art.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Proposal submissions must be submitted via the online submission manager. Your proposal may come in the form of either a pdf, or a word document. Please do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself as all submissions will be subject to blind review. Detailed submission instructions can be downloaded from the website.
Individual proposals: Please include a proposal title at the top of the page. Do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself. Proposal should take the form of a 200-250 word abstract for a 20-minute talk or artist presentation. Accepted proposals will be grouped into panels of talks with compatible themes or approaches.
Pre-formed Panel proposals: Please include a panel title at the top of the page. Do not include name or contact information on the proposal itself. Pre-formed panels should have a designated moderator and may use one of the following formats: 3 presenters each giving 20 minute talks; 3-4 presenters for a roundtable discussion. The proposal should take the form of a 200-250 word overview from the moderator plus individual 200-250 word abstracts from each of the participants. All abstracts must be submitted in one PDF or Word document.
Student Proposals: Students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are encouraged to make proposals for individual presentations or pre-formed panels by following the guidelines for individual or pre-formed panels above. In addition, student members have the option of submitting a proposal for the student panel of Lightning Talks (see below). While students are welcome to submit proposals for both an individual presentation and a lightning talk, only one proposal will be accepted for inclusion in the conference. Student members will need to submit a copy of their current student I.D. or a letter from their institution stating that they are currently enrolled in order to be eligible to be on the student panel.

Catherine Gleason is Associate Director of San Diego State University’s Downtown Gallery.
Rob Sidner is the Director of Mingei International Museum in San Diego, California.
Acceptance Rules
Visions members may submit up to three (3) entries of high quality contemporary art quilts in any medium for a juried exhibition. Entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2009. Only one (1) quilt by each artist can be selected. An entry is considered to be a quilt if it is composed of at least three layers that are stitched or fastened together. Quilts for sale are strongly encouraged and preferred; however, NFS (Not for Sale) works may be entered.
Please note: The decision by the jurors is final. Visions Art Museum reserves the right to refuse to exhibit or to remove from the exhibition any quilt which is of poor quality, contains hazardous material or which has been misrepresented in the entry form or digital images.

Non-members: $75 (U.S.) for up to 3 entries includes one year individual membership for Visions Art Museum.

Established in 2001, the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize attracts strong support from artists, collectors and critics and is the only national acquisitive prize that showcases the quality and diversity of sculptures of smaller dimensions.
Over 500 entries from national and international artists are received annually and finalists' works are exhibited over a 16 day period at the historic Redleaf Council Chambers in Double Bay, Sydney.
ELIGIBILITY (truncated)
1.For the purpose of The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, sculpture is defined as a freestanding, non-site specific, three-dimensional object, constructed of durable materials. Only freestanding works will be accepted for selection.
2.Entries should not exceed 80cm in any dimension, and must have a stable base. The overall weight and dimensions must allow for easy transportation, and not exceed the carrying capacity of two average persons.
3.All entries must be the original work of the submitting artist and must have been designed or completed within two years prior to October 2011.
4.There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit. A separate application form and entry fee must accompany each entry. Only one work per artist will be shown in the exhibition.
5.A non-refundable entry fee of $40 (including GST) must accompany each entered work.

Technology can be interpreted as any mode of making in artist's books undefined including but not limited to: books involving older technologies such as handbound books, letterpress printed books and broadsides, and books involving newer technologies such as laser cutting, digital printing and books that exist in purely digital form (video). Members are also encouraged to enter works that combine old and new technologies in innovative ways.
MEDIA - This exhibit is open to book arts related artworks created as either an edition or one-of-a-kind. Artist books, sculptural books, book objects, altered books, videos of artists books, digitally produced books or broadsides are encouraged. Any medium, any style. Size is limited to 20 inches maximum in any direction. Wall-hung work must be unframed.
JURORS - BiblioTech will be juried by Ruth Rogers and Emily McVarish.
CASH PRIZES & AWARDS - Two $200 cash awards and several institutional purchase prizes will be awarded.
ENTRIES - A maximum of two artworks may be submitted per artist. Entries must be received online no later than AUGUST 15, 2011. Artists accepted for the exhibition will be notified via email. The curators reserve the right to decline any accepted artwork upon delivery if the condition or quality are other than represented in the electronic entry.
FEES - A $20 non-refundable entry fee for up to two works must accompany each submission (this fee is waived for students with current and valid ID) When entering online you will pay via Paypal or any major credit card. You will also have the option to pay CBAA membership fees at the same time. The Entry Form will have complete instructions.
