Call for Fiber Art

Play- fun or jest... a game? a toy? a bully? a tease? a hair pull? a game of tag? a snowball fight? a kick and pinch?

Play is an experience we all know one that can bring us laughter and perhaps at times bring us tears.

In the spring exhibit, Play, at the Textile Arts Center, May-June 2011, we want to explore play and all of its multifaceted sides and experiences. We ask artists whom work in fibers or fiber techniques to submit works that deal with the idea of play. Feel free to interpret this theme widely. All types of work are welcome for submission: performance, video, wall work, sculpture, conceptual or interactive. Please note we are looking for contemporary interpretations of fiber and textiles.

$30 entry fee- 5 works per entry- a maximum of 1 detail per work.
Images must be correctly sized-300 dpi, Largest dimension 8 inches MAX, jpeg only. Either email as jpeg attachments or mail on cd. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ZIPPED FILES.

The Textile Arts Center is a gorgeous street level space located in Brooklyn, NYC. The center provides an environment for the professional, the artist, and the student. With an invested interest in the conservation of hand weaving and other fiber arts, the Center offers a fully equipped studio and gallery space for those with enthusiasm and curiosity, with and without experience. It is a place in which craftsmen are, once again, nurtured in their making from beginning to end. The Center also hosts an emerging fiber artist studio residency program.

Lark Jewelry is publishing an exciting new jewelry book in our “500” series, and we would like you to submit images for consideration.

500 Rings, to be juried by Bruce Metcalf, is second collection of juried rings in the 500 series. Following the widely popular 1000 Rings (Lark Books, 2004), this encore installment will be a 420-page, full color survey of contemporary rings created after 2000. This international collection will be beautifully presented and widely distributed throughout the world in Spring 2012.

We welcome outstanding images of rings made from any materials and in all design styles. Jewelers whose work is selected for inclusion will receive full acknowledgment in the book, a complimentary copy, and discounts on the future purchase of books. Artists retain copyright to their work. Lark accepts high-quality digital images, transparencies, and slides. No entry fee is required.

All visuals submitted must represent work that is original in design. A maximum of three entries per artist is allowed. An entry may consist of no more than two visuals: an overall shot and one detail or alternate view. All entries must be mailed in the same packet. E-mailed submissions will not be accepted.

Submissions must be postmarked by March 30, 2011.

The Perrysburg Area Arts Council presents the 4th Annual Fiber Art Show being held at The 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, OH. The Fiber Show will showcase innovative uses of fiber media that include (but are not limited to) art quilts, needle arts, wearable art, experimental fiber, textile collage and weaving.

In addition to a juried art exhibit, the Fiber Art Show is a two-day celebration of all things fiber, and fun for the whole family! Here are some of the highlights:

ENTRY FEE
$15.00 per entry, for up to 3 pieces. Both 2D and 3D artwork are acceptable, as long as the materials include fiber. Original work only (no commercial kits or patterns).

Sales are NOT permitted at The 577 Foundation. Artists are welcome to supply business cards and arrange for future sales as needed.

Art may be selected for inclusion in a post-show exhibit. Please indicate on your entry form if your piece is available. The number of pieces selected will depend on the venue/location.

Each year, the Alberta Printmakers’ Society organizes a hand-made postcard exhibition and exchange in the Artist Proof Gallery. Artists working in all disciplines and backgrounds from around the world are eligible to participate in this non-juried exhibition.

Interested artists are invited to submit 10 original 4” x 6” artworks for display in the Artist Proof Gallery from April 13-16, 2011. The Artist Proof Gallery will retain 2 pieces from each submission, and each artist will then receive 8 postcards from randomly selected artists in return by mail.

A closing party for the 4th Annual Postcard Exhibition and Exchange will be held on Friday, Apr. 15 at 6:30pm.

Art in the Open (AiO) is a citywide event that celebrates artists, their inspirations for creating art, and the process of art making in the urban environment. Through a transparent creative process open to everyone, AiO acts as a catalyst for a contemporary re-framing of the tradition of creating art en plein air (working outside, on-site), inspiring both artists and audience to see the river and city beyond in new ways.

Art in the Open 2011 will run from June 9-12 along the Schuylkill River Banks Park. A jury-selected group of 40 artists will have the opportunity to create new work in designated areas of the Park - from the Fairmount Water Works to Locust Street, and at Bartram’s Garden (AiO will provide additional geographic information to the artists before they begin). Depending on their own inclination or the nature and scale of their working media, the selected artists will be able to move freely within the designated areas or choose to stay in a single location. AiO artists will exhibit selected works created during the four day event in an exhibition after the main event.

Eligibility:

AiO is open to all professional artists (international entries are welcome) working in any medium that can be made 'outside, on site' during the four day event. Students and artists under the age of 21 are not eligible. An independent selection panel will select the participating artists based on the quality of their previous work and the idea presented in their AiO proposal.

Entry Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of $30

Intermountain Weavers Conference 2011 registration includes a three-day workshop, keynote lecture, Fiber Celebrated 2011 opening and exhibit, Intermountain Spirit and Intermountain Creations exhibits, IWC Market, Fiber and Fashion Show, and other events.

Register as soon as possible to ensure your workshop choice. For 2011, on-line registration will be available using PayPal. You do not have to be a member of PayPal to use this service to pay for your registration. Registrants postmarked after April 18 will be placed in workshops subject to space available. Notification of assigned classes will begin April 28, 2011.

The fee for IWC members for the entire conference is $335 and for non-members it is $365. This fee does not include workshop supply fees, room or meals. Late fees will apply after April 18, 2011.

Payment of registration fees can be made in full when submitting the registration form or a partial payment of $200 may be sent with the remainder due by May 15, 2011. Refunds will be given when requested in writing, minus a $40 cancellation fee, until June 1, 2011.

Additional meal plan cards and event tickets are available for people not taking a workshop (spouses, etc). The event tickets will include the Keynote Lecture, Fiber Celebrated 2011 Opening Reception, Fiber and Fashion Show, and Sunday workshop visits.

Wiels Residency Program in Brussels is an international laboratory for talented emerging artists from all over the world. Wiels provides a unique framework for artists to pursue their practice and engage in current debates and researches that examine the potentials of contemporary artistic production. Wiels Residency Program provides the residents with a working studio (+/- 45m2) and a training program (with collective and individual tutorials) for 1 year for international residents and 6 months for Belgian or Belgium-based residents. During each residency, an optional public presentation is organized. The residency program is part of the larger Wiels Contemporary Art Centre, of which it forms an essential and complementary part.

Residency Program Overview

1. Nine working studios are accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Studios are furnished and have Internet access.
2. Weekly meetings and regular evaluations with the artistic tutors of the programme
3. Assistance in the creation and development of new projects. Outside technological and creative resources can be brought in as needed.
4. A program of studio visits by curators, critics and professional artists
5. A program of exhibition/gallery visits in Belgium and the neighboring countries
6. An online archive of the residents projects on the residency blog.
7. Exhibition & performance: Wiels makes every effort to exhibit or perform the projects created by the residents during their stay.

Eligibility

Wiels is looking for candidates who seek to develop their artistic practice in a professional context and to create new projects reflecting their experimentation and research. Candidates may work with any medium, but they must have been working since at least three years and have an exhibition history. Students are not eligible.

Wiels welcomes emerging artists, but is also interested in working with older generations who are reorienting their career or who are willing to carry out a special project.

All applicants must have a valid visa not expiring before the end of the program, be at least 21 years old and not be enrolled in any degree program. Applicants may not be resident in another studio program at the same time as the 2012 Wiels residency.

Schedule and Costs

Wiels offers the studio equipment, training, technical support and curatorial supervision.

The artist or his/her sponsoring organization is expected to cover his travel and living costs. The sponsoring organization is responsible for arranging any needed visas or permits.

Wiels does NOT provide a living space.

Wiels is committed to help the selected applicants to apply to grants to fund their residency.

Selection Process

A jury composed of the artistic team of Wiels and the residency tutors will select candidates on the basis of the quality of their work and their potential to take full advantage of the program.

Candidates will be notified by email of the jury’s decision by mid-Summer

Paradise Center for the Arts is seeking submissions of recent work from visual artists for exhibitions in the Carlander Family Gallery and the Lois Vranesh Boardroom Gallery for 2012. Submissions will be juried by members of the gallery committee of the Paradise Center for the Arts, which is comprised of artists, arts professionals, and art enthusiasts in the area.

Submissions will be accepted any time before July 3, 2011 and final notification of the committee’s decision will be no later than August 30, 2011. Early submissions are encouraged.

Submit: 6-10 images of recent work in JPEG format not to exceed 20 MB. Resume and Artist statement.

Commission split is 40 /60 for nonmembers, 30/70 for members.

The main aim of the exhibition is to create a tradition in the presentation of contemporary 2D and 3D small-size paper art, created by artists from all over the world without restrictions of techniques, styles or kind of paper. The purpose of the exhibition is to stimulate the development of creativity and innovations and to exceed the ordinary imagination of using paper and to promote the exchange of ideas and sharing of original experiments.
