For the eighth year, the Carnegie Center for Art & History invites artists to submit entries for Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie, an exhibition exploring the world of contemporary art quilts. This annual, juried exhibit draws works of art by artists across the United States and celebrates innovation and creative thought in the increasingly popular medium of art quilts.
The Carnegie Center is pleased to have Rowland Ricketts, Judy Rush and Joanne Weis as jurors for the 2011 Form, Not Function exhibition. In addition to selecting the works for the exhibit, they will also select some of the exhibition awards on the opening day of the exhibition.
Eligibility: Form, Not Function is an annual juried exhibit of contemporary quilt art, open to artists living in the United States. All works must be quilted (two or more distinct layers held together with stitches); other techniques and mediums may be incorporated. Works must be ready to hang on the wall, including the hanging rod. Works must be original and completed since January 1, 2007. Maximum size is 100” height and 60” width. There is no minimum size. Three-dimensional works including works mounted on stretchers) are eligible, but the work must be ready to exhibit on a pedestal or include mounting hardware for wall display.
Entry Fee: $30.00 for three works; $10.00 for each additional work.

Your project will be reviewed by our staff and the Program Committee and we will contact you if the project is consistent with our mission and current program, and we feel it can be further developed.
Please be aware that Berkeley Art Center's exhibitions are planned approximately 18 - 24 months in advance. Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, it may take us 1-3 months to reply to your request, depending on the timeframe of the project.
At the present time, Berkeley Art Center's priority for exhibition emphasizes thematic and group exhibitions featuring work by emerging to mid-career regional artists, as well as established Northern California artists. Related programming varies, but is currently focused on offering inspiration, resources and support to local artists.

1708 Gallery presents an average of eight exhibitions a year by emerging and established professional artists from all over the world. Each exhibition is approximately 6 weeks long.
1708 Gallery's focus is to present new art that is not older than three years.
Exhibition Proposals
Artists and curators may submit exhibition proposals to 1708 Gallery throughout the year. We welcome submissions from professional and emerging artists in all mediums (students are not eligible). 1708 Gallery's Exhibition Committee which includes professional artists from 1708 Gallery's Board of Directors review and select all exhibitions presented at 1708 Gallery.
Selected artists will receive a 6 week exhibition at 1708 Gallery, a small honorarium, and some funding for exhibition related expenses. Artists are responsible for delivering, shipping, installation, and deinstallation of their work and all related costs. 1708 Gallery will provide assistance with installation and deinstallation. Exhibiting artists are encouraged to attend the exhibition opening and participate in an artist talk.
$20 ENTRY FEE
Only complete proposal packages including all information listed will be reviewed. Artists will be notified of
outcome within six months of receipt.

In addition to annual exhibitions and projects that highlight the work of member artists, The Dayton Visual Arts Center is preparing to schedule:
•Four to six exhibitions during each of the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons; including, if possible, one large solo show each year by a member artist.
•Two to four exhibitions for its annual REACH Across Dayton collaboration with Sinclair Community College, during winter/early spring 2012 and 2013.
REACH (Realizing Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage) Across Dayton exhibits explore synergies between diverse cultures as expressed in the arts and humanities. Additional activities include a studies conference and workshops.
PROCESS, ELIGIBILITY
A three-person jury will review images from curators and artists; their recommendations will go to the programs and exhibitions committee, who then consider the full proposals; a schedule for two seasons is then approved by The Dayton Visual Arts Center’s Board of Trustees. Although we are a member-based organization, non-members are encouraged to apply to this call. Exhibitions may be scheduled to be concurrent. The exhibition space is quite flexible and is appropriate for large pieces and site-specific installations.
While the Dayton Visual Arts Center promotes local and regional artists through its programs and services, there is no geographic limit as to who may have an exhibit in the gallery.
All printed materials and media releases will be prepared by The Dayton Visual Arts Center.
The Dayton Visual Arts Center insures work during exhibition, but not during transit. Sale of work exhibited in the gallery is encouraged, but we do not require that exhibited work be for sale. The gallery commission is 40 percent.
Education for artists and the general public is an important part of DVAC’s mission. The organization actively seeks an audience for the work it shows and schedules gallery talks and other programs with visiting artists whenever possible.
ABOUT THE SPACE
The gallery is about 1,800 square feet with up to 200 feet of running wall space, including its three moveable walls. The ceiling is 16 feet high, with 50 feet of wall space at that height; the rest of the walls are 10 feet high. Natural light comes in to the space through storefront windows with a west exposure. Exhibitions generally run between four and seven weeks.
Exhibitions are sometimes expanded to include showing work offsite with community partners. The Dayton Visual Arts Center maintains professional standards in installation and presentation, but also serves as a multipurpose space for community events, lectures and receptions. Due to the nature of how this space is used, there may be some limitations on 3-D work. Artwork may need to be moved at times for events.
The application fee for each proposal is $30; this fee is waived for the first application received from any current Dayton Visual Arts Center member.
