For the past 70 years Burnie has been a paper making town. The papermaking tradition is kept alive by local artists and artisans.

Following the great success of the inaugural 2012 Paper on Skin competition, our aim is to further foster and promote the cultural paper heritage of our town by presenting innovative and wearable paper apparel.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Betta Milk Burnie Wearable Paper Art Competition is open to artists 18 years of age or older, living in Australia. The work must be in excellent wearable condition.

Selected works will be paraded at the Gala Parade & Award Evening Friday 11 April 2014 at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery.

Burnie Arts Council reserves the right to retain selected works to exhibit at Burnie Regional Art Gallery from 14 April to 25 May 2014.

  • All entries should have been completed in the last 12 months and must be an item of clothing in excellent wearable condition. The theme or style of the garment is the artist’s choice.
  • All entries must consist of at least 80% paper.
  • Please note that accessories such as headwear, jewellery, handbags etc are not necessary, but are allowed as part of the design and as with the garment, must be made from at least 80% paper.
  • Where possible artists are encouraged to provide their own model. The Gallery will assist with local models if required.
  • Completed entry form to be returned by Friday 17 January 2014.
  • Entry fee: $25.00 (non-refundable). Artists may enter more than one work. Each entry must be a separate application with separate entry fee.
  • Completed application forms should be accompanied by a CD, DVD or flash drive containing the following:
    1. Curriculum vitae or biography (maximum two A4 pages)
    2. Artist statement (maximum 500 words)
    3. Up to 3 images of previous related work (e.g; fashion design, sewn garment or textile art pieces, handmade paper work)
    4. Concept design sketch of entry and brief description outlining design concept and materials to be used.
    5. Please submit as separate documents. Hardcopies of the above will not be accepted.
  • NB. WHEN SUBMITTING YOUR FINISHED GARMENT, enclose a label stating your name, title of work where available & type of paper(s) used. Imperative to state garment size for correct model matching.
